Well, I won't go into too much detail about camera obscuras because you can just look up information on the internet easily enough but, basically it's latin for Dark Room.

From what I've learned there are two main types of a camera obscura...one is a smaller desktop intrument and one can be an actual room.

If you've ever watched the movie "Girl with a Pear Earring" (which is about Johannes Vermeer) you see the desktop version in that.

In short, you set up a scene that is projected onto your paper or canvas and you trace it out to get your proportions and angles. It's also how they were able to get the intricate patterns and embroideries of clothes or elaborate chandeliers...or so it's been hypothesized.

Anyways...nice work, DF.

Yeah . . . interesting subject . . . I forget the name of the book, but David Hockney wrote a book about all of the devices the Renaissance artists used, that were thought to not be invented until years later. It makes you feel a little better that the talent of the Renaissance wasn't completely incomprehensible . . . interesting book.

i WISH i could be that good in Illustrator, hehe...but nah, that's just plain ol' photoshop...

oh jeez!! That's not Illustrator!? Well, it's certainly not "plain ol' photoshop" coloring, because it's too amazing . . . seriously! It's easy to screw up colors in Photoshop . . . you've got all the right subtleties down pat.

Sam the dog!!! Just noticed that . . . I rock Sam on my desktop!!!! He looks straight out of a zombie movie!! Now that would be an interesting subject for a piece . . . .

that is mega awesome.......

.....wait did i just say mega awesome, what the hell has this world come to.

haha thanks...but i don't really consider that anything special. i'd be far more impressed with myself if i could do that in illustrator, hehe.

Omg out of all your drawlings i chose this to be the best and it was hard to chose nice work:cyclops:
thanks a lot, ngoc. i did this more than 2 years ago...before i got my Wacom. i think that was actually the last piece i colored with a mouse. boy did that suck (coloring with a mouse)...haha

here's a lil' bit of what i'm working on right now...

kirkwip1.jpg

...it's a tribute to tv/movie Superman. this is Kirk Alyn as Supes. i changed the costume up a bit to make it easier on the eyes, but these are just the flat colors...i'm gonna put shading in and everything. i'm gonna draw Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Dean Caine, and Brandon Routh...

Since Tom Welling hasn't ever worn a Superman suit, I think it's fine. Besides, I can't stand him.

thanks guys...yeah, no Tom Welling because he's never worn the Supersuit...PLUS, i just don't really care for it. maybe if they ever make him wear the suit i'll add him...but since they haven't....he won't be included.

That's pretty cool. What technique did you use to draw it on black like that? Did you do it straight from photoshop?
