Iron Man 2 Downey's thoughts on Batman/DC

^That's cool. I could care less if RDJ was totally joking, totally serious or just half joking. Good for him. I just find it amusing that the thread with the most traffic in the Iron Man 2 section is one that is not even about Iron Man but rather another comic book movie altogether.

Probably due to the fact that you can't mention anything bad about TDK without having a thousand bat fans coming to defend it...thats most likely is the reason why this thread is still alive.

Hahaha. Listen to RDJ. This is some funny stuff. I don't think he even means what he said; he's intelligent enough to know that this will endear him to Marvel fans. However, Marvel vs DC is a foolish feud to begin with imho. I like Iron-man and Batman. Have for years and always will. I hope both continue to thrive, but I don't understand his point about TDK being 'high-brow'. It wasn't difficult to follow at all.

Really, a mere bachelors to understand a film? Please: A CPA can do your taxes, but if he can't follow film developments, he'll take away less from a film than some high-school dropout who's obsessed with the character or an avid fan. He makes it seem like Darren Aronofsky directed it.

He still gets major credit for saying that publicly. The funny thing is that he's in WarnerBros - Guy Ritchie' helmed - new version of Holmes. I wonder how those preliminary conversations will go/went.

RDJ is unlike the numerous She-Males, Bi-s in the comic world who doesn't know their preference between DC Comics or Marvel. Whether RDJ does it jokingly or not, he's a MAN for letting us know his preference.

I liked Dark Knight but I don't think it's the best. I think it's kinda overrated. Don't stomp on me for saying that. -_-

RDJ saying it was awful is kinda a shock to me. I can't see how anyone could say that, but hey, opinions.

Downey is rather unapologetically expressing some of the same problems that I too had with TDK. The movie just about collapses under its own weight. It is SO dark, SO serious and has such a downer ending that it lacked the exhiliration that I want and expect from any superhero film. Dont' get me wrong, there was a lot that I liked (Ledger's Joker, top-notch action sequences), but was generally disappointed. I found Iron Man to be the superior movie in every way. I hope to God that superhero movies from here on out don't imitate TDK, that would be disastrous. My hope is that after Nolan is done with his trilogy that the Batman franchise will be lightened up just a bit. Again, I liked TDK, just felt a bit let down. For me, summer 2008 looks like this;

1. Iron Man
2. TIH
3. TDK

I doubt WB was upset with Robert Downey Jr. because they get one of the hottest stars on the planet in one of their new tentpole movies. Downey pretty much equals money right now. He's the new Johnny Depp. He's a hot commodity now. You think they care if he says that? Nope, I bet they want him in their movie more.

Plus WB could always just brush if off as bravado if it was ever brought up again, part of his fun-loving personality.

I love RDJ, he is an asset to the American movie industry. He is an A List actor the way he dive into his roles. he is an actor while De caprio , clooney are celebrities. ref TDK, not every one is crazy about it. I like it and I hope the next Iron man sequel wouldd go indepth in its story. My brother who saw it says TDK was ok but not that great. While I say TDK is a well made movie because of Chris Nolan. While Iron Man still has typical american super hero film and because of RDJ that it differs itself from the other Marvel movies.

This is just Robert Downey Jr. being himself, and he's just plain wonderful because of it. I love how he doesn't sugarcoat anything he says. He's an A-list actor without the pretentious and/or airheaded attitude ... How can anyone not love that?!

I'm not quite sure how being the main draw to the second most successful movie of the year doesn't make one an A-lister, but the success of his next few films will be telling I suppose. Tropic Thunder didn't actually make that much money.

He got a lot more credibility from his performances in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and also Zodiac which pretty much got snubbed by the Academy.

After Iron Man and Tropic Thunder, yes he is an A-lister.

"A-Lister" is a completely arbitrary term as it is, but if it's to do with anything it's to do with box office draw. Whether RDJ has it beyond IM remains to be seen, but I'm guessing he currently does enough to be called an A-lister right now.

There are many actors that only do hoity-toity indie flicks, and no one hears about them until they're nommed at the Oscars, yet I would consider many of them A-list. I know that means their box office draw, but I call A-list in regards to talent.
