Iron Maiden, should we be concered about Doom's short footage and will all of that footage be reinserted in the director's cut or even the first dvd that gets released? I only hope...

It'll probably be just like the Extended Edition we just got... it'll be compiled and finished within a couple of months of this movie coming out, then they'll sit on it for two straight years while they wait for the sequel to hit theaters. Then when we finally see it, it'll be poorly edited, scenes will be inserted out of order, etc.

I am a bit. I suspected he didn't have many scenes, judging from the novelization. I have to reserve judgment until I see the movie but it still makes me wonder that Julian has been conspiciously absent in any of the promotion for the movie. Then again he's really not considered one of the franchise... although IMO Doom should always be lurking, ready to pounce at any given opportunity.
Barb over in the "Critique the Critics" thread says that the Doom-on-his-throne scene IS in the movie, but it's only about 10 seconds long or something, more of a transitional scene than anything worth applauding over. Hmmmmm.

I agree with you as always, but in reading the novelization, it seemed like Doom had a lot of scenes especially spread throughout the book but one person on here said that total scenes with Doom is 15 minutes and frankly, that is short which makes me wonder how much did they cut again....and if a third movie comes back, do we get more Doom, less Doom, or don't even bother putting him in the movie? To me, Doom should be the Magneto of the franchise, always lurking, always around and I guess the only way to truly satisfy my Doom fix, is to have Doom get his own movie.

I blame the Fox executives. I would've felt a lot better about him if they'd let him keep an accent. ANY accent. But apparently they hated every accent he did except American.
Tis true, Victor and Reed should have more to do but I think their rivalry was downplayed at the expense of the comedy in the first film. There's more of it in the novel but let's hope that didn't get cut out.

His Aussie accent comes out every now and then in the first movie...especially the scene with Leonard as he prepares the table for he and Sue's dinner.
When Doom says, "Later," his accent is pretty distinct.
I'd still take FIVE COPIES of the movie version of Doom over ONE copy of the Ultimate Doom. I mean... an abused teenager with goat legs who rules over a campsite full of hippies that he claims is his "kingdom," and who belches poison gas at his enemies?
But after just getting back from seeing the movie, I must say that Dr.Doom DOES make an appearance, not perfect but certainly not DINO Doom folks. He is in the movie enough to make his presence felt and to appreciate him, but not enough as badass Doom with the totally awesome new costume and
the stolen surfer board with the power cosmic
. The suit just looks awesome, dark grey like metallic with the mask a bit bigger and sturdier looking but not too dissimiliar from movie #1 mask. The green cloak is very dark but overall he looks menacing.
My major gripe is that you only get short quick shots of him in the movie and for about total of two minutes. Fox made a mistake, they got Doom right or near enough and they short change the finale with him with blink and you'll miss editing. Once again bad editing wins.

No one (who has seen the movie) has picked up on how close to classic Doom , movie Doom has now become as a result of this sequel.
I will put some points for consideration in spoiler tags for those who wish to remain cinematically pure
Doom has the classic scarred and burmed (or melted) face behind the mask and even has an underling use tools to remove it who he kills because he's being impatient.
He sits on a big throne watching several spy cam screens of global events
You see images of his ancestors and a quick glimpse of one in armour which explains why he chooses to wear it
Doom in fiinal costume is totally armoured and looks so much closer to the more traditional Doom appearance
But most importantly and most overlooked
Doom now is FREE of the organic metal skin, so in essence with the exception of electrical powers, he is a man in a armoured costume...WOW!!! They have totally retconned Doom and got rid of the Ultimate FF controversy
So can we all call a truce with Fox, we now have to a degree a Doom (which at least in looks and now as a lightly powered human) is closer to 616 than ever?
