Rise of the Silver Surfer DR. DOOM/Julian McMahon Discussion

Please, show me where I said I'd rather see the '94 Corman Doom to the 05 Fox Doom. Please.........

I said the 94 Doom was 'closest to a faithful visual representation of Doom' i.e, from the source material ak.a the comics.

What's closer?

I knew what you meant Benitez. You don't have to explain yourself man...and I agree. We're never going to get classic 616 on screen. I don't know why, but there's a specific reason why FOX is deliberately evading the classic armor design. They don't like it.

yeah and you guys are complaining about this? :whatever:

wow, i'm thankful for it

With all due respect, as much as I love Dr. Doom, his armor (or rather the clothing part of the uniform) needed some...updating. While the 2005 movie didn't do exact justice to the classic Doom look, my biggest issue with this interpretation of Dr. Doom was his characterization and motivation. He just wasn't Doom enough. He could have worn of tutu for all I care, just act as Doom...evil!!!

That's certainly a much better picture.

The details are much easier to see like the rubber arms and shoulders having segmented/ribbed texture, the shoulders are actually broad which looks good. The cape is attatched to the clasps on his chestplate and the mask looks much clearer and pretty decent actually.

It still has it's problems though, it's not fully armored and it seems like they're having trouble just giving him full on armor so they make him look halfway there. The cloak and hood are brown which is still lame.

Ultimately it's looking like Doom cobbled together makeshift armor that suited his needs but doesn't provide protection like his organic armor had and he doesn't have the resources to make a full suit of iron.

I do like this new look.... but did this picture suddenly get un - banned by Fox???

Now, I enjoyed the first film and actually liked Doom in it: his look and portrayal. It could've been better, but the sequel looks to be imporving everything vastly, so far.

But...that pic of Doom looks so rubbery and...just kinda un-Doom. He looked great in the final battle in the original film, they're trying to make him more regal but he just looks kinda...daft.

Also, just a question, exactly how is Doom supposed to take the Silver Surfer's powers? I'm guessing he might do a power-transferance thing like Johnny's doing, but how ddid it happen in the comics?

I just got tired of all other sites having the photo and talking about it and we were not......

BTW, I like the new myself...

Is it not possible that they tried a 'literal' version of the 616 costume and it didn't translate well i.e looked stupid? Or that the armoured arms, etc would render Doom totally immobile (after all the practical logic in 2D does not always apply in 3D) and wasn't practical enough, after all Tim Story mentioned they tried different brows for Ben. In the first film his early Doom look made sense in the context of how they introducved him, this other leaked picture in my opinion isn't as unfaithful as people are complaining about and it is plausible that as a character who wears a costume Doom could have decided to try out a new fashion:cwink:

^exactly, it really isn't that unfaithful to the 616 costume. The only major difference is the missing armored arms and darker coloring, which I'm not really bothered by. I think it's somewhat of an improvement

I'm sure that's part of it. I mentioned earlier that I suspected the "rubber arms" were a compromise they made so that the character's movement wouldn't be restricted.

One thing you can see when you look at those Kirby panels is that Kirby was a master, and he could project intense emotions through his drawings . . .but he had the luxury of drawing it in ways that don't work with real, hard materials. He could shift the shape of his face and armor to project certain feelings and you just can't do that with rigid props.

And we haven't yet seen (at least not most of us) this Doom as he is meant to be seen . . . in motion.

I would have preferred something closer to the classic look, but I'm okay with this design. When I first saw the banned photo I LOVED it. It wasn't until I noticed the rubber arms that I began to get a little concerned.

"Bravo"!!! One of my favorite Doom stories of all time. Especially the pages out of this particular issue. Compare this classic to the Doctor Doom they're assaulting us with in these films. Unfortuanetly, there are too many people on these boards that shall except the scraps they are given by these studio heads. What a shame.

can someone explain to me how they can make Iron Mans suit work without him having limited movement and why they couldnt do the same with Doom?

Don't think it's a technical issue more of a case that FF is at Fox and Iron Man is under Marvel's own studio

Exactly. ^

At any rate, my jury on this new look is still out until I see his legs. That's gonna be the kicker for me. If they're armored, I'll be groovy with it. But if it's Puss-N-Boots...forget it. :down

What's with the eyes? That's what I'm curious about.

After seeing what Stan Winston was able to do with the Iron Man armor, No studio has any viable excuse when it comes to superhero costumes. The only reason they don't make it faithful is because THEY DON'T WANT TO.

We can dance around this subject till the cows come home, but it's becoming obvious that Fox and co just don't want 616 Doom. Which leads to me to believe, we aren't going to get the 616 character of Doom either. Be prepared for generic bad-guy/Electro-doom, again.

Fox stikes again.
