As I'm sure most of you already know, Neil Gaiman was planning on writing a Doctor Strange film for Guillermo Del Toro to direct, however he's a little busy at the moment with The Hobbit and is pretty much set until 2017 with stuff like Slaughterhouse Five, Frankenstein and a few other films. Go here for more info...

While Dr. Strange is a character in “1602″ as the Queen’s court physician, Gaiman’s just a tad more interested in seeing him get some non-”1602″ treatment — from Guillermo del Toro.

“Guillermo del Toro and I have talked about doing a ‘Dr. Strange’ movie,” Gaiman said. “And I think we’d both really like to do a ‘Dr. Strange’ movie. We’d love to do it together. The problem is, Guillermo’s off doing ‘The Hobbit’, and that’s going to be three, four years in New Zealand for him. And when he comes back, I suspect that he will then want to do something personal, so he’ll probably do ‘Hellboy 3′ [Ed note: Or perhaps 'Frankenstein,' 'Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde,' or 'Slaughterhouse Five'] before we could ever get to do a ‘Dr. Strange’ movie.”

Now, do you guys think that Marvel should/will hold out until 2017 for Del Toro (if he is actually going to be booked until then) or move on to another equally great director?

GDT would be awesome for Dr Strange BUT waiting for him would not be good.... I think they could find a good director to do Dr Strange.... for Example maybe Gore Verbinski :)

yeah the wait would be very long as his table is pretty stacked atm with films gore is doing bioshock atm but i guess he could do it after

del toro's creative ideas belong in hellboy's universe, imo, it wouldn't work for dr.strange. i'd like to see a new and promising director.

I say move on, GDT isn't the only hollywood director that would be capable of directing Dr. Strange. Sure, he's good, but he's not the only good director in Hollywood.

I agree. Move on. Find another director.

Del Toro's hardly going to find time for Hellboy 3, let alone Doctor Strange.

And I wouldn't say del Toro is necessarily suited to Doctor Strange.

Well, I think GDT could definately make a helluva Doctor Strange movie, but I agree that its best to move on. I really dont want to wait nearly a decade for the film, and I really doubt Marvel will wait that long. I just hope that when the time comes, they choose a suitable director.

The idea of waiting forever just for one particular director doesn't appeal to me. I'm not saying they should go for the first guy to show interest....but why wait 10 or more years?

You've got to be kidding. The stuff from the two Hellboy movies would fit just fine in a Dr. Strange movie.

i'd like to see a new and promising director.

Got anyone in mind?

Dr. Strange with Del Toro would be awesome beyond belief, but not that awesome that I could wait until around 2020.

You don't really need Del Toro for Dr. Strange, despite how good he'd be on the project.

With a good script, the guy who did Constantine In Name Only can do a good job.

1.) i know that, but the look of the hellboy movies is what makes them unique, and using it for another movie, might take the spotlight away, which is fine with me, but most likely not with hellboy fans

2.)acutally, i dont. an example is the director of the iron man movie, he made several movies, but wasn't know by everyone, and that's why he was a perfect director. that's the idea i was looking for, a director that is great for directing movies, but isn't well known, thats my best example of a reason for a new promising director

Maybe so but Hellboy doesn't have the monopoly on magic protagonists with creepy super-natural creatures, locations and deities in comics.

The audiences would naturally cross-over as well.

There was more to it then that. Favreau wasn't just a random director who worked on Iron Man by accident. He knew the mythos incredibly well, had the proper skills to execute it, had the proper experience to get it right the first time, cast it excellently, had a great script, worked with Marvel directly including the comic writers and whose previous projects gave him practice for specific elements needed to make IM work in live action. You'll need a director to duplicate all of these for Dr. Strange. del Toro has them.

Being unknown had nothing to do with whether Favreau could succeed.

They're really going to need a really great director with a similar resume that suits this specific franchise and excellent talent at delivering a movie like Dr. Strange. That's quite a task. It's a job which could easily flop in the wrong hands.

I agree. Del Toro would def be great for Dr. Strange and he does have a vision for the project, but he's not the only option. Gore Verbinski, David Fincher, Alex Proyas, Darren Arronofsky, I think any of these guys can make a good Dr. Strange film.

ok "Mr. Right"
it was just my opinion

Dr. Strange the animated movie really made me respect the character more, i would love to see a movie version like that with maybe Francis Lawrence behind the helm. 2017 is way too long to wait for G.D.T. we should have a Strange movie between 2011-2014 at the latest...

I wonder will marvel set sup a strange cameo in the avengers or at least mention his name...

Francis Lawrence. I loved what he did for I am Legend In Name Only (My favourite book will never be adapated faithfully :( ). His take on Doctor Strange would be interesting. Probably more suited to the real world take of the Iron Man/ TIH universe.

I want a Defenders movie. Hulk, Dr. Strange, Ice Man, and Silver Surfer. with cameos by Luke Cage, Valkyrie, and Angel.

how about David Twohy(Pitch Black,Chronicles of Riddick) direct

Twohy is visually good but too over-the-top and not so good at directing actors.

as much as i like deltoro, marvel needs to move on. i hear that past the hobbitt films, there other projects he is interested in like some vampire trilogy and a frankenstein film which would be modeled after bernie wrightson's drawings. i think his plate is full.
i think there other directors who would be interested to tackle dr. strange.

It would be cool to adapt the Marvel Horror Series as well. Dracula, Frankenstein, The Zombie, The Mummy, Werewolf By Night...

GDT is awesome. Id say Dr. Strange wont be a priority until after Avengers and the precedeing solos (IM2, Cap, Thor, Antman). GDTs got some time but they shouldnt wait too long afterward though./
