Dracula Year Zero Rises at Universal

Dracula in the novel was just a hardcore villain who had very minimal lines.

I have a feeling this Dracula won't really stick closely with the novel; they will make sure he'll be a sympathetic character, since he's the central figure of the movie, after all.

Well, nowadays vampires are being portrayed as teen heartthrobs (Twilight) or misunderstood do-gooders (True Blood). I guess the people behind Dracula wanted to continue this trend.

theres only like a handle of good vamps in true blood... the rest are cold, heartless evil vamps

I agree! I'm halfway through it so far, and it's a really cool story! Stephanie Meyer better be taking notes: THIS IS HOW YOU DO A VAMPIRE MOVIE!:oldrazz:

Stephanie Meyer and her "sparkling vampires" . . . . . . :cmad:

I HATE 'EM!!!!!!

Just once I wish they would do a faithful adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel. Forget this prequel ****. Forget this Van Helsing ****. Just do the ****ing book properly! :cmad:

where he was just a force of evil and only had a few lines in one chapter? PLUS a nifty mustache? Seriously, the book is wonderful and Dracula was almost Jaws like. He pops in and out of the book but has only a few lines here and there.

Uh, didn't Francis Ford Coppola DO THAT already? I mean, Keanu Reeves aside, it WAS very faithful to the book and to the infamous rumors about Vlad The Impailor back when Stoker wrote it! Plus, Gary Oldman was FANTASTIC and creepy as ****, despite his initial Palpatine-esque look at the beginning.

Either way, I think Worthington and Proyas can make this work. Worthington's no Gary Oldman, but I think he'll give a decent performance. As for Proyas, hopefully this will be his apology for Knowing. Ugh, that was a pretentious movie.

He can still be made menacing, you just have to make sure you make Dracula a serious threat. Sometimes less is better.

In a way, Coppola's Dracula was the most faithful adaptation in terms of chronology. In other aspects it was a disgrace, such as making Dracula a tragic hero and making Mina fall in love with him.

I'm still waiting for his version of the famous line:

*bloody with sword in hand*

"I...AM...DRACULA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

*cue badass rock music as he kills 50 Turks*
