Dracula Year Zero Rises at Universal

I really liked the introduction to "Bram Stoker's Dracula" with Gary Oldman back in the days. The armor was great and the Romeo&Juliet-esque backstory was kinda interesting. Hopyfully this new movie will dig deeper into Vlad Tzepes' backstory and why he potentially became the first vampire!

The armor in "Bram Stoker's Dracula" was outstanding! It deservedly won the Oscar for Costume Design.

Oldman should have got at least a nom for his performance too.

Man if that film didn't have Keanu Reeves it'd be a bonafide masterpiece.

That concept would have made for an awesome Batman poster too. Love it.

Yeah, really great poster.

This film could be an EVENT!

It's probably going to be forgotten two weeks after its debut.

Another "untold" origin story about an iconic character, in which we'll see how he turned to darkness, or whatever he's known for, with a nice PG-13 rating (confirmed by actress Sarah Gadon), a no-name director making his directing debut with a $100+ million tentpole, and an atmosphere and narrative structure which will probably resemble every other recent fantasy reimaging.

I call it now. It'll probably be another "meh"-movie. Wait for it.

It's PG-13? A film about Dracula and how he turns to evil a PG-13? lol

“It’s an action film but it’s also really a fantasy film,” Gadon said. “I’d say it’s more of a family fantasy film.”

Bram Stoker’s Dracula being a violent and sexual novel, and in many of its film adaptations, I did not imagine Dracula to be a family man. “It’s about a family as well,” Gadon continued. “It’s going to be a PG-13 film and it is more about the family than it is about sexual angst.”

Hilarious!

Is it surprising though?

EVERY tentpole is PG 13. Even the Expendables franchise has now gone PG 13.

R sadly doesn't make financial sense these days.

It would, if the studios would support more (well done) R-rated movies.

And if they stopped spending 150 million and upwards on everything. What justifies this having such a bloated budget?

They need to start hiring skilled film makers who can create stunning films without using the budget as a crutch for their lack of creativity.

They do. A lot. Just not for the tent pole market. Those products are squarely PG13 always.

Spectacular new image!

I like the artwork so far.

And for the claim that this is a family movie, he's shown standing over a pile of dead bodies.

Photoshopped, dead bodies. How shocking.

And generally speaking major studios do not support well done R rated movies anymore.

Word.

Well Fox got The Grand Budapest Hotel out this year which is an absolute masterpiece.

Well, I'm talking about commercial movies, not arthouse.

A "family fantasy film"??????

That is definite Netflix material for me.

They might want to clarify that she meant a film ABOUT a family, not a film FOR the family. At least, I hope that's what she meant.

Last year Best Picture nominees American Hustle, The Wolf Of Wall Street did more than 100 million dollars each. Then there was Lone Survivor, Olympus Has Fallen, We're The Millers, The Heat which were all hits.

Even this year we have had two R Rated hits in the 300 sequel and Neighbours.

The trouble is, only one out of these had a tentpole budget - 300. Rest all were commercial movies, but modestly budgeted.

I really dislike the modern trend of obvious photoshop posters, they don't feel real, but lazy.
