Dracula Year Zero Rises at Universal

I always dig these kind of movies. I put it in the same category as Underworld and Van Helsing. Just dumb fun. Bring it on.

I loved the hell out of this movie its probably one of my favorite action films all year. I cant say to much but dam Vlad vs the thousand man turk army was freaking epic. Although with that said this script most have been floating around for years otherwise a serious law suit is about to happen in regards to this and the LOS franchise. I will get this on dvd when it comes out.

^Wait, this is out already? I only saw the trailer recently but really like the look of this.

Yah, I would like to know the same thing.

I didn't even know this movie was being made until me and a couple of friends saw the trailer before Guardians. Usually we're not into these kinds of movies but after the trailer ended, we all looked at each other like "um, so we're definitely seeing that right?!"

Have to say, it looks pretty badass.

Fandango indicates the running time for Dracula Untold as 1 hour, 25 minutes. That's without the 15-20 minutes of previews.

I'm for studios reminding directors to be mindful of story and character, but I don't know if this was a victim of studio interference and mandated cuts. Maybe it's not, but we'll see.

The runtime is not inspiring. Not when this is supposed to be an origin story. Most character pieces run over 90 minutes for a reason.

I was at my local cinema today watching TMNT (Avoid it like the plague!) and was chatting with a buddy who works there. He said the run time they got was "125 minutes".

I checked Fandango just to make sure mclay read it right. Fandango definitely says 1 hr 25 min. So two possibilities: Fandango listed it wrong and it's supposed to be 125 minutes or your buddy read the runtime wrong. I'm hopping that Fandango listed the runtime wrong and your buddy is right.

IMDb and a few other sites says it's 92 minutes

I bought several Universal monster movies on DVD from walmart. They came with coupon codes for $7.50 off of the price of a ticket to this. I am intrigued I must say, but its a hard sell for my friends. Hopefully I can entice them with the discount. If not, well I can stay home with my new copy of The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Luke Evans is on The Graham Norton Show next Friday, probably promoting this like crazy. Poor guy.

I have read a couple of reviews.

I think that I will give this one a miss. Maybe catch it eventually on DVD!

I'm not surprised by the bad reviews. the trailers made this look like joyless stinker, sadly.

Luke Evans in a bad movie? Shocked! ;)

Seems like it's more a comic book-y film than a horror one from the reviews.

Sad to hear about the bad reviews, I was hoping this would be a case of bad trailers, good film but it looks like the ship has sailed. An utterly pointless and wasted exercise if the suggestions that Universal will reboot Dracula again for their "shared monster universe".

Evans must be praying the crow is a success as being associated with two turkeys where he's playing a beloved character will be poison to his career.

I wonder if we'll ever get a film about Vlad The Impaler, not as a vampire but the man behind the legend?

It's a shame the reviews are so dreadful. I really want Universal's Monsterverse to work. However they have to be true to the material and characters and make horror movies!!!!!! I mean trying to make "super hero" monster movies is just stupid. Look at the original UMCU (1925-1956) 8 often interconnected monster franchises that actually brought horror and monstrosity to the audiences. How can you pull that off with VFX/CGI action fests where all the monsters are simply "misunderstood" heroes?

I'll catch this one on demand, but I already don't like what I'm seeing. I really hope they take this to heart at Universal and don't make the rest of these films mindless action flicks.
