human/magewhat class/race did you choose?
human/mage
this is the first time i've ever played dragon age.good choice.
but I'm not a real fan on how they divided up the spells in this game. felt like there were less spell options compared to previous games.

ah, maybe. but right now as a game itself i'm not having that much fun. i'm guessing they expect you to be acquainted with how the game works from playing the previous installments. nothing makes sense and it's a lot of stuff to account for. but whatever. it's only the beginning.well, then you might enjoy it more since you don't have the prior games to compare it to.......lol.

the characters seemed cool, I didn't think I needed extra backstory on them to like them although of course that would've been better.I wouldn't say they expect you to be familiar with how the game works from the prior games. some stuff is similar but they also made changes to the gameplay mechanics so DAI also feels different from prior games.
I'd say prior familiarity with the characters like Cassandra, Leliana, and Varric would help, though. but it's not required.
they do kind of just throw you into the story at the beginning. I suppose that's the point with your Inquisitor character. but for me, it lacks the connection to the character's backstory like you had in Origins.
btw......did you do the online Dragon Age Keep to setup your choices/backstory from the prior games?

no didn't do the keep thing, I thought that's if you played da1&2 and had a story to import. I can just go and do it anyway?
you don't have to have played DA 1 or 2 to setup the Keep.
you can go in there and set the choices and decisions to whatever you want.
though, since you haven't played the 1st 2 games, you may not understand every choice point they present. For the stuff I didn't know, I just consulted the Dragon Age wiki on that particular quest or character.
however, since you've already started a character in DAI, I don't believe there's a way to go back and attach the Keep story file to that character.
you'd have to create a brand new character if you wanted to import your Keep file.
so, unless you want to start over with a new character, you may just want to stick with the default backstory you already selected.
I'm guessing it would be the same as the genesis comic for Me2 on Ps3. I didn't understand all the stuff they were saying but the choices I needed to make were still sensible. so what would the difference be in my playthrough without the keep? decisions are premade for me?
I didn't get that far into the game, it wouldn't be so bad to start another account. I only got up to the point where I fought with the demon that got spout out of the huge green thing in the sky an was deemed a hero or whatever by everyone.
i had no prior exposure to ME before Me2 either, but the genesis comic was included in the PS3 version. So I did it. So yeah with that in mind and the fact that I haven't really played passed the intro, I wouldn't mind starting again with the keep if it means a quite different experience.ah, so you just competed the intro portion. well, that's the time to start over if you want......lol.
The Keep is similar in concept to the Genesis comic in ME 2. but there are a lot more choices to wade through.
if you don't do the Keep, then you use the "default" World State setup by Bioware. it's not exactly "canon," but they've already made some choices from the prior games for you.
Like, I believe the default Warden ( from Origins ) was a Dalish Female Elf who sacrificed herself to kill the Archdemon.
and so on for who Hawke was ( from DA II ) and other choices.
Or course, if you do the Keep, you'll have more control over those choices. Like, did your Warden survive Origins. Who did your Warden Romance. Did you save such and such or side with a certain faction. Did you return a sword to a particular character. etc.
In the grand scheme of things, I'm not sure how much the Keep choices really affect the story in DAI. from what I've heard/read, it sounds like it doesn't really affect much.
so, since you have no prior exposure to the DA games, and you're probably not that familiar with all the lore, story, and characters, I'd say you'd probably be fine just with the default world state.

For some reason I just don't have the drive to finish this game. The combat just feels kinda repetitive or something. Its just hasn't grabbed me.
you didn't finish da3 x?ok.
but I wanted to clarify. from what I've read and heard, it sounds like your Keep choices do NOT make much of a difference to the DAI storyline. other posters here who have gone deeper into DAI than I have may be able to tell you more.
so, just be aware of that.
that being said, going through the Keep and looking up the choices and decisions will help you brush up on the lore and story from the prior games, so you'll be more familiar with the context in DAI.
so it may make a difference for you in that regard - your understanding of the overall DA story.

but yeah, if the keep decisions don't really matter all that much I think i'll just continue with what I have. if I ended up liking the game maybe then i'll make another playthrough of it, if my friend doesn't ask for the game back by then.
I can understand that haha, I thought I was the only one who wanted to keep starting over right at the beginning because I wanted my character to look better. I'm pretty tired right now, otherwise I'd continue playing now.lol no. I barely got past the intro level you just completed. I always find some "flaw" or "imperfection" with the way my character looks so I restart.
or I'm not satisfied with my class, so I restart.
I've probably restarted more than 50 times. and now I'm tired of playing through the intro level again......lol.
and like I said above, the game's just not grabbing my interest.
so, I'm taking a break from it right now.
maybe I'll pick it up again later with a totally different class/spec. Still bummed they removed Blood Mage as a spec, so I might just role a 2h Reaver warrior in the future.

although I am surprised you didn't finish it. back when I played my Ps4 a lot and saw one of your accounts on, it was always to play da3.
blood mage as a spec? i'm afraid I don't know what that means. I'm guessing it was a previous class?

so I just got up to the part where you meet mother giselle, then I talked to the horsemaster guy. but now there's now spiky icon on the map, I dunno where to go.well all those times you saw me playing DAI, I was probably restarting over.
as for blood mage. It was a mage spec in the prior 2 games, but was taken out of DAI. basically, it gave you spells that let you control/damage your opponents using their blood, or sacrifice your allies' health/blood to heal yourself, or sacrifice your own health to boost your spells.
