EA Dragon Age: The Veilguard

So I watched AngryJoe's review, and I haven't gotten anywhere close to this point in my playthrough yet, but that scene where Isabella "deadnames" Taash is even worse, because
later on she does it AGAIN after Taash literally dies, and nothing comes from it. She doesn't do 15 pushups again, and your Rook can't call her out on it either. How does this oversight happen with the "woke" BioWare?

How did Taash die for you? How did you then talk to Isabella?

I haven't gotten that far in my playthroughs. I am talking about AngryJoe's review of the game where he showed a clip of Isabella mourning Taash and calling them "she" after their death.

That deadnaming scene is so hamfisted. There is some great ideas in Taash's story about LGBTQ+ kids coming out and the immigrant experience, but the execution often really lets it down. Taash yelling "you don't get to tell me whom I am" in her recruitment quest made me cringe. Then it all ends with Taash having to make a binary choice between her Qunari heritage and her adopted Rivian culture. Why can't she be both?

The roughness of the writing here really comes in to stark relief now that I am playing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and MachineGames' writing staff is on their usual A game.

-35% already. Another reason I don't buy full-priced games at release anymore, barring a very few exceptions.

In my screen, it shows the local pricing and thats quite a deal for a 2024 game!

Yeah, it's definitely not worth full retail in my opinion.

So, the game was under my christmas tree and i played it for around 5 hours now...a lot of fun.
I like the cast, the systems work so far well together and all...its a good game.

But and that is a funny thing considering the big discourse that was around this game...its too japanese for me in terms of style and design.
The game was used for the weird culture war and the whole east developers vs west developers thing...but i feel the game is stylised as a JRPG.

The overall design, the animations, the core gameplay speed and style...so much feels to me like a Western Medieval done by a japanese game studio.
This is how it feels since hours to me on everything.
To me that is why it feels less like Dragon Age to me.
Inquisition was equal as colorful yet it had still this western RPG style in everything.
That is how i feel playing.

Its fun dont get me wrong, i enjoy it and can barely stop...but the overall vibe of the game throws me off a bit.

I am not a fan of what I saw and read from this game but what we know about the development of it, she did the best she could, and bigots will see this as a win.

EA Says Bookings Slid on Weakness in Soccer, ‘Dragon Age’ Games

Slower sales of the sports title account for majority of the miss.

The roleplaying game Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which came out in October following a turbulent development cycle, reached 1.5 million players during the quarter, missing the company's expectations by around 50%.

The last time Shapiro did a post like this was to tease the announcement of Alyx. He only seems to post on Twitter in support of Half-Life releases. @Gee I'm really starting to get my hopes up.

I think its going to be a long time, if ever, before we get another Dragon Age game ever again.
I hate that the bigots will see this as a win and will blame this on the game's LGBTQ+ leadership, but the game just wasn't that good. The writing, voice acting, quest design, and role playing elements were so weak. The party members did not behave like real people with flaws and views, etc. Thedas lost all of the shades of grey that defined BioWare's original intentions with this series.

The game really became a slog for me over time due to those issues. Doesn't matter how polished the combat is if it feels like every quest is the exact same combat-based experience. And the combat really didn't scratch the itch I look for from games like this, the magic was reduced to the same handful of effects. It was completely lacking the creativity, immersion, and scale that is so fun in past BioWare fantasy RPGs and games like BG3. In trying to make all classes viable frontline combatants, the game lost all of the uniqueness of their respective experiences.

Cant really understand it.
What does FC so bad this time that even the whales arent that into it?

Dragon age, im having fun...it took a while to get into it, but its fine.
Not on the level of Previous Dragon Age games, but its decent enough for me to play it daily.
Personally my biggest problem is that it feels too japanese if that makes sense.
It feels like a game a japanese studio would do with the setting being western high fantasy.
It doesnt often feel like Dragon Age visual or in terms of the world.
Everything is this overly colorful, every design of everything has to be super busy and oversized etc.

Other than that, im having fun.
I get why its not working for many...it doesnt feel like what you expect from Dragon Age.
Even Inquisition which was a bit more colorful etc still felt like Dragon Age.
So i get it, but i still have fun with it.

I'm not familiar with this franchise but its a bit tragic for such a major IP. A lot of games get new updates more than a year after its release, and its not even six months old yet?

I don't know how this would affect Mass Effect 5 moving forward. But there must be some negative energy in their offices right now.

Apparently ME5 is still in pre-production, and that staff from BioWare are being sent to other EA projects to work on them. Not exactly a good sign there.

Ok I finished it and I ended up really liking it! In fact other than doom it’s the only triple A game I’ve liked this gen. Great action, story and characters

The one-two-three punch of Andromeda/Anthem/Veilguard is tragic for BioWare. EA must be unhappy with the studio. The disappointing part is the new game got decent reviews yet it flopped.

I just hope the fan-demand for Mass Effect 5 is still there that EA would still move forward with the game, and begin production/actual development this year.

I started playing this a few weeks ago and it’s not bad but I can see why there has been so much negativity surrounding it. The only characters I’m vibing with so far are the two holdovers from DAI (Varric and Harding). The world looks pretty great and the action is good, but it just feels… hollow in comparison to DAI and BG3. However, I feel like I’ve been so addicted to BG3 over the past couple months that I’m comparing everything to it and nothing is going to come close. That said, I’m constantly wanting to go back and do new playthroughs of BG3, while going back to my first playthrough of this isn’t all that appealing. Hell, the thought of doing another playthrough of DAI feels like it would be more fun than finishing this. Ugh. Such a shame to see this once amazing franchise apparently be going into its death throes.
