Dragonball HQ

I haven't actually seen Battle of the Gods. I learned to just ignore DBZ movies because they're generally awful. I mean, I don't know, we don't know any plot details as of yet, so that's what Super may be about.

You can only make so many films before really want to make another TV show.

Ehm... I think Battle of Gods and Resurrection F are still canon. Dragonball Super will just take place after said movies. I can definitely see all the other gods of destruction coming into play.

So here are some things I'd like to see:

- Piccolo back in action and actually putting up a good fight.
- Goten and Trunks with new designs. Not too different, but just to make it clear they're older now. Something along the lines of Gohan during the Cell Saga.
- Vegeta having his time to shine. Have him be the one to save the day for once.
- Less Mr. Satan.
- Whis and Beerus at full power.
- Humans (Tien, Yamcha, Chiaotzu, Master Roshi and Krillin) being useful again.

Well yeah, as I said, I think all the movies are technically canon, but I don't know if this show will really reference them. Not saying it won't, just stating a general fact that movies and the shows usually exist separately. Obviously, this is a special situation, so since the movies are part of the big DBZ revival they may be more important. But as of now, we don't know much outside Super will take place after the Buu saga.

Well, the movies have always been in a weird place canon-wise. Dead Zone was, to my knowledge, the only one that was ever actually acknowledged in the main show. But as far as canon goes, as the article says, this show will take place after the Majin Buu saga, so it looks to be a natural progression of the series and pretty much a recton for GT.

When it comes to the films, it's generally best just to ignore them in regards to the timeline. Even if they're considered canon, the show is really all that counts for the timeline.

I think that it's been figured out that only the first Bardock movie, Trunks movie and Battle of the Gods movie are canon. All other movies aren't even if they could be mostly due to Word of God for BoG and the other two appearing in the manga.

Bardocks second timetraveling super sayian movie isn't.

At all.

Ever.

Or to quote Bardock in Teamfourstars version of his second movie "STUPID ASININE SHARK-JUMPING BULL****!" Anyone who hasn't seen it really should, it really is a work of art. :D

Well, Dead Zone has to be, since Garlic Jr was in the main show. I mean, it was filler crap, but it was still there, being pointless and horrible.

You know, unofficial or not, I'd still like to see someone with a time machine go back and kick Garlic Jrs ass. "I'm immortal!" "I'm SS2!" "Aw ****."

Looking forward to this. I've been doing a bit of DragonBall binge lately.

I'm sooooo ready for this, lets do it!

Yeah, all this new DBZ stuff makes me want to go back and watch the original Dragonball, which I preferred to DBZ anyway. I would kind of want to go back to Z after that, but I don't think I could sit through all that again. I'd probably have to go Kai.

The thing is, unlike past films, which were always considered non-canon and couldn't be placed in any part of the story canonicaly, Battle of the Gods and Ressurrection of F were advertised as the official continuations done by Akira Toriyama himself. I believe there was even a mention or two about them being the canonical continuations of the manga.

That is non-canon, filler for the anime is non-canon aside from a few exceptions like that Bardock Prequel.

Well, yeah, as I said in that very post you quoted, this is obviously a sort of special situation. I was, again, just stating a general fact about how movies have been handled as their own thing in the past. I was not saying this will be the case here, for sure, but just that it could be. We don't know for sure yet.

And psst at the rest of it. Garlic Jr happened. Live with that shame.

It would be nice to still have Pan around, and finally have a female SS.

I want some new interesting threats, a tad more complex than in the past. I dont need to see SS5,6,7,8,9,10 ect.

Well, that's okay, because now it's Super Saiyan God, apparently. So we can start over with God II, III, IV, etc.

I have no problem with filler, but Garlic Jr is simply not canon. I enjoyed that film and storyline a bit, but this isn't like with American comic books, Akira's word is final, and the Garlic storyline is not his, it's as canonical as GT by this point.

Update 1:30pm ET:
In an official statement released by Toei Animation, the Japanese voice actress for Goku, Masako Nozawa, expressed excitement for the new project. "I've used the word 'cho' (super) in so many commercials, games, and other media, it is fantastic that the long-awaited Dragon Ball Super will finally begin," she said. "I hope that this series will last a long time and have the same impact around the world as its predecessor."

Well, in the end, it doesn't matter since it sucks anyway. It's just pedantic squablings about continuity, but either way, it doesn't really change what I said as true. At this point, we don't know how it'll be handled for sure, just giving an observation into the past.

Holy ****. Someone needs to minimize this and use it as a gif ahaha

I always based the canon vs non-canon against what would be possible in the main series. I don't count Garlic Jr after Namek because the first movie clashes with what we know about the start of DBZ. No one had any idea about Gohans power when it showed so Dead Zone can't work because it was shown there. There only movies that 'might' work are the first Brolly movie being during the week long wait for the Cell games, Bojack and Broly 2 after Cell, possibly the Cooler movies, and everything after Wrath of the Dragon is canon.

It's not much more than a thought exercise figuring out what could work but it's fun. :p

I've seen it be reconciled that at least from Lord Slug to Super Android 13 take place during the 3 year training gap, and Broly takes place during the wait for the Cell Games, and then everything else be fit in at various points after.
