Yeah, the TV version is edited just like the original was back in the day. It does seem it's a little less gory in some scenes (like Raditz's death, for instance), but there's still blood and stuff. And Popo is definitely not bright blue lol, I can attest to that.

I think the dialogue is vastly improved for Kai. That's probably my main reason for loking Kai. And I agree, the Otherworld Tournament is awesome. That's probably the only filler I really like. I remember absolutely loathing the Garlic Jr saga because it made no sense timeline wise.

Oh yeah, since we are talking Falcouner music, my favorite pieces that stood out were the Pikkon theme, Future Trunks theme, and the SSJ Vegeta theme.

Ginyu Transformation is a pretty epic piece, especially when it was utilised at the end of the Cell Games.

Omg, how did I forget that? That is the best piece Faulconer ever made.

Agreed. My favorite moment from the entire series:

It's strange that such an epic piece of music, used for villain deaths mostly, was used first with Ginyu of all people.

Ginyu and the Ginyu force were such odd villains for DBZ. They felt like some kind of weird transplant from the original DB or something.

That would explain why they are some of Z's only good villains. :yay:

HAPPY GOKU DAY!!!

Happy Goku Day! Today is the day to celebrate one of the most influential characters of all time – Son Goku from Dragon Ball Z! Starting this year, May 9th is an officially recognized day in Japan by the Japan Anniversary Association. The animation studio behind DBZ, Toei Animation, had actually filed an application with the Japan Anniversary Association to commemorate this day and their request was approved!
So why May 9th? Well, May is the fifth month in the year and in Japanese the number 5 can be read “Go” while the number 9 can be read “Ku”.

Goku’s Japanese voice actress, Masako Nozawa, attended a stage event after a screening of the recently released Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ film in Japan earlier today to celebrate this great this day. She shared how her career in voice acting started. Initially, she really hated voice acting because she aspired to be a stage actress, however, after all these years of success she is truly glad to be have become a voice actress. Dragon Ball creator, Akira Toriyama, is actually the one who decided she is the one who should play Goku right after her audition to play the part. Toriyama-sensei is also the one who selected Nozawa-san to play Gohan and Goten.

In order to celebrate Mother’s Day, which is Sunday May 10, Goku (well a person dressed as him) surprised Nozawa-san at the stage event with a bouquet of 59 carnations and presented them to her as the “Mother of Dragon Ball.” Nozawa-san responded by saying, “That’s sneaky of you. I’m gonna cry!” She added that to her, Goku does seem like her own child.

Ah, that's nice. I hope she's not secretly Frieza.

Going through Kai made me realize one thing about DBZ (well most of DBZ, that is) is that besides all the filler that killed the pacing, the main sagas (Saiyan to Frieza to Andriods to Cell) all flow really well into one another. They all feel like part of a connected storyline that's continuously progressing as it goes along. Kai shows this particularly well with all the filler knocked out, though I think even with all that filler you could see it in the original series if you managed to see past all the junk to the good stuff.

It's also probably another reason I dislike the Buu saga, too. It just doesn't flow that well from the Cell saga at all. It's also one of the reasons I think GT was weaker than Z. Despite the lack of huge amounts of filler, the sagas always had a kind of disconnected feel to them. I don't necessarily hate GT, though. It's much like the Buu saga to me. Lots of interesting stuff came out of it, but overall just so flawed on so many levels.

GT sucked. Though to be honest I was already fatigued with Dragon Ball with the Buu saga. Continuous power leveling can only sustain itself for so long.

GT...yeah, GT kind of sucked. I don't hate it as much as most, though. There is some good stuff in there, just the execution makes it a lot weaker than DB or Z. And I gained a little more respect for SS4, too. I used to think it looked horrible and out of place, but at least it looked like legitimate effort was put into it as opposed to the new Super Saiyan forms.

But yeah, I think the whole "race to be the most powerful" aspect of Z is one of its weaker points. It unintentionally devalues heroes who aren't Goku and makes revisiting past villains kind of pointless. That's one of the reasons I find this newest movie's plot kind of eye-rolling. I know you can't take it too seriously and all (especially the movies, which barely make any sense as is anyway), but as much as I liked Frieza as a character, we've seen characters that are worlds more powerful than he was, but we're suppose to buy that him coming back is some big deal. I know they're trying to say he was just that strong naturally and never trained (despite him saying that he trained with his father, minor recton I guess) and all, but geesh, with the kind of power levels we've seen it's hard to buy that any amount of training short of years would make any difference at all.

My biggest issue (among many) with GT was the incredibly inconsistent power scaling they had. One fight they'd be having trouble with someone who was more powerful than Buu and the next they'd have trouble with some henchmen that weren't even near Freezas level.

Besides that, if Freeza was supposed to be so almighty powerful until Goku kicked his butt then how is it everyone in space made Freeza look like a joke?

I don't recall the scale problem, but yeah, heh. I never really thought about that second part until now. Doesn't make a huge amount of sense unless one assumes that without Frieza the universe in general was in a better position to grow, but that's basically head canon.

But I guess I could forgive it then. I actually like how the first 1/3 of GT seems kind of like they were trying to capture a mix of DB and DBZ with having a lot more focus on the adventure of finding the Dragonballs. The tone shifts to Z-lite by the time that Baby stuff starts happening, though. Hah, I don't particularly like it, but thinking about it now I kind of want to go back and rewatch GT again after I finish Kai and DB. Oddly, it's not on Hulu, though.

I basically skipped most of the stuff before they got back to Earth as I got tired of it. I liked Dragon Ball but this just seemed retreading old ground.

I did like SS4 though, that and the leading up to him turning SS was my favorite part of GT. A lot of it I can do without but it did have some decent parts.

SS4 always looked overdesigned and just plain dumb to me. Didn't really seem in line with the other forms, just looked completely random. But as I said, after seeing the new forms, I appreciate 4 since it looked like thought and effort actually went into it. The new ones are the definition of lazy.

But yeah, there is some good stuff in GT. I like the idea behind the black star Dragonballs, liked some of the villains and all. But it's got a lot of problems.

That's a big part of why Z peaked with Frieza for me. At the time his power really was unbelievable and the stakes were raised as far as they had ever been with almost every character getting killed, even Krillin. The saga-long build up to Goku going Super Saiyan had a desperation to it because literally nothing else could stop Frieza ([BLACKOUT]friggin' spirit bomb[/BLACKOUT]). When he finally does it's a monumental event, something that subsequent levels did not replicate. I liked the Cell saga well enough but it felt like a comedown after that.

Episode 47 of Dragon Ball Z Abridged is out and it's where Cell absorbs Android 17. This series just gets better with every episode.

I actually like the capsule corp one myself, but $69 is a bit too steep. What's the third one suppose to be based on?
