Dragonball Script Thread (Contains Spoilers Duh)

This made me die a little inside. Luckily the script gets better later on.

GOKU
I think I’m gonna go to Kira’s party this
weekend.
KAL
You can’t go. This weekend’s your
birthday party. That’s when we have our
killer Dragonball party in celebration?
GOKU
Yeah, so what?
WULAN
What? Dude you’re not seriously thinking
about breaking the tradition?
On your birthday Grandpa Gohan always
throws you a Dragonball party. We play
Dragonball. Then you show us some new
killer moves.
Wulan does some awkward martial arts techniques.
GOKU
C’mon guys do you really think that three
18 year old dudes, and an old man sitting
around eating cake and playing Dragonball
is better than going to a real party with
real girls?
Kal and Wulan enthusiastically nod yes.
KAL AND WULAN
ABSOLUTELY!

It's hard to defend the movie after something like that... :csad:

He had a nice character ark from the beginning of the film to the end of the film.

Though he was the only character I didn't like in the script.

The only more reason i'm glad they delayed the film 3 more years to get a better script from wong. The potential is there, lets hope he pulls through.

I like the direction that James Wong and company are going for. What I don't like is this script by Ben Ramsey. If you found that in the least bit similar to the manga then its quite possible that we have been seeing/reading different anime/manga's. Please refrain from telling me what I'm going to enjoy and what I'm not going to enjoy. Again I'm only stating my opinion on this script which I found was horribly written and doesn't really capture the feel of Dragonball. That's why I'm pretty glad that James Wong and Stephen Chow re-wrote the script into a much better (and hopefully smarter) film that is faithful to the manga/anime not only in name and characters but in the ambiance and the wonderful storytelling that doesn't feel forced.

I agree with you man. Let's hope there were rewrites. :o

My biggest problem is that I get a completely different vibe from the script then that of the source material. The spirit of it feels gone, and even goku feels like a completely different character, despite carrying the same name.

I agree wholeheartedly with craigdbfan in that this is horribly written, and feels nothing like the anime/manga.

They're my new Teto......:o......:hehe: They better not kill Teto, or those two in the film or I will personally pimp slap Ben Ramsey and James Wong with a rusty metal pipe!

All I can say is thank god for James Wong. He might not be shakespeare but he's a better screenwriter than this.

The thing is, it takes about 23 pages in til it gets a fair pace. the script feels written in crayon, but I'll admit, the meeting between bulma and goku was a fair scene, as was the oozaru bit, but they're almost ruined by bits like the trading card, and the fact that we don't really care about Kal and Wulan, or at least I don't. To be honest, I enjoyed knowing they'd been killed.

Wow this got a lot of replys, the card thing just has to go it makes the film seem dumb.

Goku has gotta be more like Goku, from the script he didnt seem to be happy much, laugh often be that stupid and didnt have the a huge love for food.

I assume Piccolo will have a bigger role aswell.

Last night then it flew around. Go on JPs site he said it was on there

Whats he been in ive never heard f him.

I'm not sure. His IMDb profile doesn't list too much. I can't find an interview with him or anything.

EDIT: According to Variety, Ramsey was paid half a million dollars to adapt Dragonball Z.

Ah. I completely disagree. I think it's a solid first draft that (hopefully) got better with rewrites. The story is coherent, the characters are fun and faithful, he pacing is great, and most importantly it feels like Dragonball.
I found the characters in the script to resemble their manga/anime counterparts in certain situations and in certain lines of dialogue used here and there, but Ben Ramsey’s attempts at translating everyone’s personality are very inconsistent in their success, and oftentimes, it appears as if he had entirely forgotten that a Dragonball adaptation must, in at least some small capacity, use Toriyama’s work as a point of reference. When Goku says, “Wow, you look really hot,” he sounds more like Paris Hilton than himself. Perhaps the line given to Goku most faithful to his original personality is when he responds to Bulma thanking him for saving her life by telling her, “You’re welcome.” It’s that kind of affable goofiness that really defines Goku.

£250,000 is $500,000 its the same anyway lol
Some of the grammar in this script is really bad. How does a person who gets $500,000 for his writing not know the difference between "it's" and "its," the difference between "to" and "too," and that you don't write "stole" in a sentence which reads, "Puar scampers off with the stole goods"?

That's why it's called a first draft?

I haven't read the draft, nor do I plan to, but it's most likely not Ramsey's PDF file. Someone copied it from an actual hard copy, and it's likely their mistakes. Not his.

It looks better than Fantastic 4 movies, so i am content, I know for sure Wong have giving more protagonism to Piccolo, Mia replace Pilaf, no Oolong or Puar, and sure he has to change dialogue for all this changes, but basicly the movie is going to have this kind of structure, and i belief Chichi will have more screen with Wong too.

Is cool that the posibility to see an Ozaru is there, is also cool that blast and big explosions is also going to be there, and the humour and gaps too. that for me make it better than Elektra, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Fantastic 4 etc

If the script is really Ramseys

Seriously, while people are allowed to criticize, it's apparent that a lot of people (not necessarily on this board) have no idea what a good script actually looks like. They tend to read worse than they turn out on screen, which is why I think this script is surprisingly solid for the most part. Sure, I'd change a few things, but there have been many revisions and tons of changes since, so I think the film has a solid grounding.
