Decided that this absolute legend should have his own thread - showing some of his works:-

one of my favorite artists ever. often imitated, never duplicated.

in fact, i've imitated his work myself (though, not nearly as good)...

I have one of his movie poster books; Drew is one of the greatest talents the film industry's seen in a long time. from "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" to "Back to the Future" and the "Muppet" films, this guy is easily the best poster artist of his generation.

Drew Struzan paints the best movie posters bar none imo.

His opposite number in the comic cover field, it's Adam Hughes.

Those two are my favourite illustrators, right there.

Ah, a self portait eh?

Anyways, more awesomeness:-

You know the guy's good when he manages to make Cutthroat Island actually look interesting and, dare I say it, epic.

Anyway, yeah, Drew Struzan's pretty much the definition of a legend.

Can't tell how many movies I've wished had a poster done by him. Oh, what I wouldn't give for a Struzan painted Serenity art... :csad:

Here's a clip from that documentary I just found too.

Gotta say, I genuinely think that his artwork for The Thing is a masterpiece of the highest order. I struggle to think of words to even describe it, it's that good!

Reading the annotations in his book, you get the feeling he's a little bitter at the studio system for the way they treated him. Atleast there were guys out there like Darabont, Del Toro, Spielberg and Lucas looking out for him.

Some great stuff. Many try to emulate his style but no one does it as good.

I'm glad you made this thread Brian Braddock eventhough it was 4 years ago since you started it. But he definitely deserves it.The man is an artist, legend and genius, imo. I love his artwork. The guy's talent and work is untouched, unparalleled and unmatched, imo. I can't praise the man's talent enough. I would love to see him create posters for the Nolan Batman trilogy, Inception, Cameron's movies, all Marvel Studio movies (especially CA:TFA and The Avengers) , Burton's movies, Bond movies, Watchmen, Super 8 (don't recall if he ever did one for that he might've) heck every movie as a matter of fact. It would be cool if he did a poster for the upcoming MOS or other upcoming superhero movies like Thor 2 and IM3 as well. It's sad a lot of movies today use photoshop and are not hand drawn and painted like Struzan's posters. Its an art form that's getting lost in the marketing/movie industry everyday. His posters would make a movie I have no interest in more interesting, imo. I also like how he seems to capture the tone, heart and attitude of a certain movie perfectly with his posters. Some of his posters captures it better than some of the movies itself do. If that makes any sense.

Largest size I could find. Sadly.

No cool posters to ad but I just wanted to chime in on how much I love Struzan's work. Always amazing! That Shawshank poster is so excellent.

Simply put, he is the man. Why they didn't want him to first HP I will never know.

Didn't know about this.

Just fantastic.

It depresses me how mundane movie posters are nowadays. The Harry Potter movies are a prime example: Struzan's from the first two were very creative and memorable, the ones for the subsequent films were just lazy photoshop jobs.
