Why is it that society deems anyone that prefers drinking alone an alcoholic? Do you share that perspective?

Drinking alone is the way to go. Watch some movies, drink your naughty juice, and the night is a party.

That is absolutely how I see it. You stay out of trouble that way. Haters gonna hate, I guess.

Doin it right now, no drinking problem here. And if society has a prob with it, then I'll just have to go and drink with them too

Drinking is generally seen as a social experience. You drink when you go out with your pals to a bar or have dinner with friends/family. I find the thought of someone just sitting at home downing a six pack by them lonesome to be troubling personally. It gives off that notion that you're drinking to drown your sorrows or because you don't have another way to deal with whatever. I know that isn't true in most cases but I think there should be a reason behind drinking other than "Man, what a hard day let me drink this bottle of Jim Beam". Hence why I'm deemed a social drinker.

A beer from the bar: $4
A beer from the liquor store: $1.30

Fiscally, drinking at home makes more sense. Not necessarily alone though.

I was always taught never to drink alone. Probably because it's seen as alcoholism. You develop a habit out of it...

I drank alone tonight. But I also sat in the corner and cried while listening to The Cure, and I'm not an alcoholic. This would be called depression, my dear Hypesters.

Its relaxing. We aren't drinking ourselves silly just taking off the edge.

As with anything else, done in moderation, it's perfectly fine. I think there is a kind of prejudice towards people who like to do things alone.

I do it sometimes but I don't make a habit out of it. There's really not much of a difference because either way your still drinking. It just depends on how often you do it.

How is drinking relaxing to you?

Alcohol is a sedative. It makes you sleepy, therefore relaxing if you drink the right amount. I like to drink a beer or two after a long day.

I'm drinking alone currently, just to clarify. The reason why I agree with Colossal Spoons, Visceral and Lighthouse is that we may not always be willing to deal with society while under the influence. Sometimes, it's nice to know that you don't have to censor yourself at all. Why is it that you have to be drunk with others to be allowed to enjoy that insight? Some people don't have that natural ability to associate with others and don't like having to give that thought while drinking.

If George Thorogood's cool with it then it's alright.

Maybe I should have clarified. I'm not really addressing the desire to have a glass of wine, or a beer or two after work. I'm talking to the people that want to get smashed and watch their favorite movies, while they add commentary -- or what'er you do :D alone

FACT. How much money is saved by buying a bottle, instead of a dozen shots (including tips)?

I dont drink to look popular or fit in at a party with a red solo cup...I drink cause I'm bored and I want to take a mental vacation.

Ah, that's a little different. I don't like to get drunk, and when I do, I'd prefer to have people around just for safety reasons.

I know it's supposed to be a depressant, but I've never been depressed while drinking.

I've been depressed before I drink. I been depressed after. But during? nope.

And quite frankly, this shoulda been included with the first post. :o
