I agree with that idea. Although I was thinking 18 since that's when they 'become' adults. But, either way, I've always wondered how much our insurance rates would drop of teenagers were only allowed permits until 18 (or 20) and had more adult supervision for more years. And how much money taxpayers and insurance companies would save with fewer court cases to deal with.

Actually I was going to put down 21 but the thought of driving and alcohol becoming legal at the same time may not turn out well. Permits at 18 sounds fine and then at 19 or 20 they can have an official license.

is this even a question? it's like asking if having a tv is a priviledge or a right.

I got my learner's permit when I was 14.

I don't mind permits being given out when someone is young because an adult is required to be with them. In California you can get it at 15 (14 1/2 if you need to work to support your family). But then you can get a license at 16.

I don't think a year is not long enough to teach and enforce good driving habits. And 16 year olds are not typically the most responsible people. If they have to wait until they become an adult before getting their license, that's 3 or 4 years of driving practice before they can go on their own. (That's also 3 or 4 years they can't drive themselves and their friends around getting into trouble.)

I frequently text while driving. It doesn't mean I'm a bad driver, just that I have the ability to multi-task and can send a text message without taking my eyes off the road.

And why does your statement apply only to sport bikes and not choppers?

Driving is the only multi-tasking that needs to be done. No other distractions IMO. True, anyone riding a two wheeled vehicle without a helmet should be an automatic donor.

If the kids get trampled by the horses, it's their own fault.

Priviledge. A right implies that it is inalienable. That is clearly not the case as the government can restrict one's ability to drive when they do so wrecklessly such as in a DUI case. I personally think that after the age of 60, you should have to take a driving test each year.

every 6 months, ever spent time in Florida? I need a tank to get around down there

It's them trampling an innocent bystander that's a concern.

By the way, Morg learned to drive on a Woolly Mammoth. It's true.
