It will have the ability to read movements...

Satoru Iwata has revealed the first details on the next Nintendo handheld.

In an interview with Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun (translated by Kotaku), Iwata said the DS successor will have the ability to read players' movements.

According to Iwata, it will have "highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing."

However, with the DSi XL yet to be released in the UK, Satoru Iwata insisted that now wasn't the time to discuss when the possible successor to DS would be released.

So when do you think this new handheld should be announced? And are you happy about the new sensor?

On the "highly detailed graphics", i wasn´t expecting otherwise, the new DS(?) is made by NVidia afterall, so, i expect the next generation of portables to be the most powerful yet (PSP2 included).
It will be fun to see the next Nintendo portable to be more powerful than the Wii, which, makes anyone realise that the next Nintendo home console will be on par with what Microsoft and Sony will bring next.

As for the all "read players' movements", i just can´t see it working.
It´s a portables, it is too small for anyone to be pulling a "project Natal" on it.
On the Wii2..sure, but not on a DS2

I just bought a DSi so I'll wait for the 2nd model of the DS2.

Judging by Nintendo's track record, if anything it will be on par with the 360 and PS3, I doubt it will be as serious and powerful as Microsoft and Sony's next generation. When was the last time Nintendo was ahead of the curve?

I have no idea what motion controls could be used with a handheld. They already make me blow into a microphone in public, I'm not going to wiggle my hands around now too.

Are you serious, not counting the Gamecube which was mroe powerful than the ps2. The N64 debuted an actual functioning joystick and since then joysticks are a mainstay for gaming. The Wii may not be more powerful than the xbox and ps3 but what are those 2 systems doing now oh yeah that's right making motion controls because the Wii is dominating them hardcore.

The Wii is obviously winning in the sales, but the 360 and PS3 are selling just fine by console standards. I wouldn't say they are being dominated hardcore.

I would,

the ratio is like 3:1 or something ridiculous. Pretty hardcore if you ask me.

DS2 Might Get Announced At E3

March 1, 2010 at 19:39 PST

Nintendo's next handheld is drastically more powerful, and dev kits are in the wild.

Developers have their hands on the DS2, and the system could be unveiled at E3 2010, according to an anonymous source.
The source said that a developer is working on a title for the DS successor, which was billed as being much more powerful, and that the release date is set. When pressed, the developer only hinted at the fact that the system won't be announced at the Game Developer's Conference in March, but might be announced at E3 2010 in June.
All the recent rumors make this scenario very plausible, and there is a possibility that the DS2 could be hitting Japan before the year is out.
