Dumb Question

Because red hair is a genetic anomaly that doesn't originate (usually) in countries where people have high melanin.

Translation for Eggyman:

Cuz red hair is a freeky thang whut happins to people whut live were thar ain't much need fer dark skin

What about if they are not fully black?
I wanna see a picture of a black person or half black person with natural red hair, is that possible?

If they are not fully black than all sort of combinations of features can be seen. My nephew for example is biracial and people tell us he looks hispanic, when he is half black and half white.

Tsk! I know you're an admin, but working on your grammar would be beneficial to the boards :yay:

This can be a tricky question, especially since with traits like skin and hair color there are actually multiple alleles that contribute to the overall phenotypic expression, not just one homozygous/heterozygous pair.

I don't have a good answer, except to say that I've never seen or heard of a black person with red hair.

If you DID see a black person with red hair, I don't think they'd look black. The MC1R gene on chromosome 16 is the one responsible for traits associated with red hair...which include low concentrations of eumelanin and higher concentrations of pheomelanin in the hair.

This translates generally into much lighter skin tone, a feature associated with having red hair.

Somebody could have auburn hair, which would entail having relatively even concentrations of eumelanin and pheomelanin, and then maybe their skin tone could be relatively dark, but I don't know for sure.

It's one thing to read the wikipedia...it's another to already have an educational background in biology and genetics and then read Wikipedia as a refresher. Nothing wrong with that. :yay:

I have naturally red hair :)

Sometimes black people have a few strands of different colored hair mixed in...Spoons, for example, has red/orange/gold-ish looking strands of hair mixed in with his beard. They're just really hard to see unless you're up close and in the sun.
