Duncan Jones' Warcraft

I think they could do more than that with the existing content but it's already ridiculous at 10 movies. Depending on the depth and length they want to go with some of the storylines they can condense or expand by a wide margin. I'd rather not see a The Hobbit where they took a two part movie and stretch it into three for the sake of extra ticket sales.

They could probably stretch it out to longer. Reign of Chaos in particular might take three films, although I said two in the previous post. Ten is really kind of a minimum. Aside from Reign of Chaos and maybe the Orcs & Humans/Tides of Darkness duology, the others are all separate stories.

I don't know if all of them are really possible to adapt to film though. Some might be too complicated in story or depiction or technology areas to faithfully adapt to a movie.

Something I would have to consider. And we don't know yet how they will be telling the story. With the Alliance and Horde it's not a good versus evil story that will just cross over simply.

Definitely not. Like I've said earlier in the thread, it is much more like Game of Thrones than Lord of the Rings in terms of story structure and tone.

There are numerous factions with their own goals, even within the Alliance and Horde, let alone when you start introducing the Burning Legion, Scourge, Illidan, etc. Even in Orcs & Humans there is tons of infighting among both the Orcs and the Humans.

Also like Game of Thrones, there is no true main character. Thrall is probably the closest, and he's only one of five Warchiefs of the Horde over the course of the games.

Except in this case the first one has little to do with the sequels (especially from 3 onwards). It is a completely different generation from the most popular storylines. It is kind of like if Peter Jackson decided he wanted to start with The Silmarillion instead of Lord of the Rings.

There is very little that happens in the first beyond the story of how the Orcs first came to Azeroth. There is also a major problem in that

The Orcs win and most of the good guys get massacred.

That spoiler sounds pretty cool. It would certainly be a surprise for the audience.

I hope this isn't the next Pacific Rim. As in, fan-favourite director, big-budget, same studio, mostly unknown actors but marketed completely towards nerds. Hopefully Legendary have learned their lesson.

Only Orcs and Humans appear in Warcraft 1.

Dwarves, Trolls, High Elves, Goblins, Ogres, and Gnomes were introduced in Warcraft 2 where the setting changes from Stormwind to Lordaeron.

What is this then:

Unlike Pacific Rim this has a very well known history and tens of millions of fans who know of the game (mostly from WOW but they still know the brand).

If it's Pacific Rim, it's already better than 99% of video game movies tho... :woot:

Yeah but the same can be said for Kaiju and anime etc fans. Nerds and followers of a property only make up a tiny percentage of the audience and can't propel something to big bucks. There's a reason nerdy/geek films like LotR and Avengers did so well, while others like PR didn't make so much.

Except Pacific Rim wasn't a video game movie :oldrazz:

Warcraft has become kind of a gag about geek culture as well as still being one of the most popular games in existence to this day though, so they have that luxury of being still in circulation and an inside joke at the same time.

True, but again that can be a bad thing. It's thought of as some really weird nerdy thing amongst the GA, which will hopefully change if the movie looks awesome. Marketing and casting is going to be key to this one.

Do you guys think it could be marketed like LOTR?

Damn disney just announced SW EP 7 will be released Dec 18,2015. I guess universal and legendary will have to move, although I hope they don't.

Oh they will have to, no doubts. No way is Warcraft going against SW, SW will crush it. They will probably delay it to summer 2016.

i think the dec date is to calm down the shareholders. SW will be moved to summer 2016. they have now 6 months to convince them.

No it won't. It will be December. People keep running to that but it won't. December is less crowded anyways. Disney already has a May film for 2016. It is the date.

December gives them more chances to make even more money, and they would not say no to that either. It is December, get over it.

Seriously? You're literally making stuff up.

No it wont. December 18, 2015 was the compromise. JJ and Lucasfilm wanted summer 2016. Disney wanted summer 2015. Disney gave JJ Decemeber 2015. They won't give him any more time. He needs to get his ass in gear cause disney wants that 2015 release and they aren't compromising or bending over for anyone or anything else if they can help it. They have made this clear. Warcraft sure as **** won't be causing star wars to move.

Exactly. It's not like 'Lets keep the investor happy with a false release date'. There is a history here for us not to jump the gun.

Dec 2015 is the great compromise. It's not like JJ and Lucasfilm didn't try to convince Disney to move Star Wars to 2016..because they did. And some people neglecting that 'little' tidbit shows how miss-informed people can be.

It absolutely could be marketed like LOTR was. And you're right, casting and marketing are going to be key. If it looks like it's going to be like 2000's Dungeons & Dragons, it's gonna flop big time. But if it looks like it will have the same level of awesomeness as LOTR, or the current Hobbit movies. Then it will rule at the box office.

Ya, except it was more of Kathy that wanted the 2016 date. JJ said he could make the summer date if need be, but I think this compromise gives him more then enough time. The 7 additional months is plenty of time for him to finish it. JJ was set for May, but probably wanted a little bit more time. Really in reality no matter what JJ would have it done by December no matter what, even if they just let it sit in the can. They had two dates set aside for Episode VII as we can see. And that's why Tomorrowland took what would have been SW's May date. They were seeing if they needed more time or not.

Plus, the movie has been in pre-production for a year.
