So Mount, Patton and Farrell are on board also or they haven't confirmed?

I don't think those 3 have been confirmed.

So excited for this. This movie will be my fantasy fix in 2015, while I get my sci-fi and cbm fix from the other big movies.

Do you suppose they'll adapt Christie Golden's Arthas novel?

I have no idea, but they seem to be adapting the first Warcraft game for this movie.

I love the real-time strategy games of Warcraft, but haven't played World of Warcraft. So them basing it on the early games actually makes me even more excited.

Though I would be damn excited anyway; with the imaginative fantasy world of Warcraft and the so far impressive skills of Duncan Jones.

It's smart to start at the beginning, that way they can film them in order and make lots of sequels, provided this does well enough to justify them.

Except in this case the first one has little to do with the sequels (especially from 3 onwards). It is a completely different generation from the most popular storylines. It is kind of like if Peter Jackson decided he wanted to start with The Silmarillion instead of Lord of the Rings.

There is very little that happens in the first beyond the story of how the Orcs first came to Azeroth. There is also a major problem in that

The Orcs win and most of the good guys get massacred.

True, although it does set up the world, the races, etc. Story-wise it's not directly related but they can always fudge some of the history and pull the story into it.

Also, would like to see The Silmarillion made into a movie though it's doubtful.

It may turn out the first half of the movie is the first game with the second half of taking from the sequel game.

Only Orcs and Humans appear in Warcraft 1.

Dwarves, Trolls, High Elves, Goblins, Ogres, and Gnomes were introduced in Warcraft 2 where the setting changes from Stormwind to Lordaeron.

Most of the remaining major races (Night Elves, Undead, Draenei, Blood Elves, Tauren, etc.), along with the continents of Kalimdor and Northrend, were introduced in Warcraft 3.

This very obviously will be set up as a recurring franchise.

So they won't use up all their material at once and keep some for subsequent iterations too.

But there's also the fact that Hollywood is known to basterdize such properties. So it might be their own thing basically barely resembling the original property.

There seems like plenty of other races to bring into later movies, though. They don't have to cut out Dwarves, Night Elves, etc. from the first movie.

Glad to see you nerds getting into it.

Well my life-time gaming experience is limited to Chess.com so I clearly don't belong here. :funny:

I don't care for Warcraft.

I just want a good action adventure out of this.

Chess.com...? Just...*sighs*. Just get out. :o

Yeah, I haven't played WoW much and have never played Warcraft. It does seem like it's gonna make a great adventure, though.

Dwarves, High Elves, Gnomes, Trolls, Goblins, and Ogres could be introduced to the first film without much difficulty. Having the Night Elves there would be a major problem since they live on another continent where none of the other races know they exist and their introduction is a big part of the story in Warcraft 3.

It'd be a great adventure if Paula Patton joined already! :cmad:

I have to admit, kinda disappointed that the Night Elves probably won't be in this movie. Oh well.

And an even greater adventure in my pants.

Tauren too are on Kalimdor so no cow people.

If they did this right they could easily get 6 movies from the existing material. More as the expansions come out.

Just based off the material already released, I think they would have no problem getting 10 films if they start with Warcraft 1.

That would be one film each for Orcs & Humans, Tides of Darkness, and Beyond the Black Portal. Then two for Reign of Chaos, one for The Frozen Throne, and one each for The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria.
