Duncan Jones' Warcraft

I have a feeling the reason why WB is pushing for a 2015 release for this is because Justice League won't make it's '15 deadline and they need to fill in the gap for that and the lack of a Hobbit film.
I just think this will serve as a Hobbit replacement(in a sense), and as an opponent for Episode 7. JL will be their answer to TA2.

On a separate note, some of you guys are underestimating this. WoW's still relevant and everyone pretty much knows what it is, along with D&D. If this movie's successful, WoW's popularity is going to skyrocket once again... But seriously, this could be something special.

would prefer a legend of zelda movie over world of warcraft if they want a hobbit replacement

For the mmorpg crowd WoW is no more relevant, the concept is old ( it still works but it's old ) and by 2015 Blizzard new mmo ( code name Titan ) will be released or in beta.
A lot of gamers see WoW ( today WoW ) as the trash of games, the McDonalds of mmo but I must be honest, gamers wont make or break the movie.
Anyway, I don't see a WoW movie standing out next to the big boys LotR and The Hobbit but I might be surprised.

Honestly it's just one of those things that has become integrated in pop culture, like McDonald's as you put it. Dorks know this thing, and a live action movie is something they've all waited to see, whether they like the game or not. It's on par with Transformers and He-Man in that sense.

It's not only about that crowd when it's a movie. Everyone knows what WoW is so it already has an advantage there. Just bring the beautiful visuals, story, action, and characters(which I think Jones and Legendary can handle) and this movie can be huge with the GA.

This is on point.

Ohh lawd...

Not that it really means anything huge. Hopefully. If Legendary/WB are shooting a movie like Godzilla this year due out for release next year, I think they can handle Warcraft.

What that article further tells me is that they are in fact moving forward with this movie, so that's good.

I'll believe it when I see a trailer.

It's offcial. They're shooting next year!

Silas Lesnick: The footage is a "mood piece" but official shooting will start early next year.

Not a WoW player by any means (though I did play a lot of Warcraft 2 when younger). But I do like me som classic fantasy and I dig Duncan as a director, so I'm quite excited about this project for sure.

I one of those weirdos who liked Source Code way more than Moon, anyway I like Jones so I'm interested.

looking forward to this!

with Game of Thrones being a huge success, i can definitely see WoW taking a similar approach

and i have faith in Duncan Jones  the guy is an awesome director

Yeah I'm imagining more of a GOT tone and style than a Hobbit one with this.

Same here, I have only played Warcraft 1 & 2 but I would surely watch a movie based on it, and it doesn't hurt that DUncan Jones is doing it.

My main hope with this film is that they jump right in with the most recognizable and popular characters (Arthas, Thrall, Jaina, Sylvanas, etc.) instead of starting off with the more generic Orcs vs Humans stuff of the first game. Warcraft III is probably where I would start. There is a really interesting universe here if they approach it correctly.

I'm not going to believe it until I see them actually advertising it with footage of the movie itself. Too many times I've heard/seen this movie is going to happen only for something to fall through.

I played for several years right up until December of last year so I'm interested in the movie but I'm also kind of concerned with what they'll do to the story.

That's the thing though. The generic "Orcs vs. Humans" didn't have a whole lot of story, and thus is fertile ground. A WCIII adaptation, as cool as it is in theory, would absolutely have to be bloated with characters, and...dare I say it, might be a bit too dark to be done live-action. I just don't know how you could tie in the two essential storylines (Arthas' fall and the Legion invasion) in a way that would seem organic.

To me, I would love to see a movie that essentially reboots that first encounter between Orcs and Humans, condensing WC 1 and 2 into one story, that shows the building of the Alliance of Lordaeron and the inner turmoil within the Old Horde. Sure, that would mean that you couldn't have some fan favorite races (Night Elves, Tauren, etc.) but it'd make for a more focused storyline, and actually compel fans of the series into seeing a story that was never really fleshed out within a game. Even WoW kind of glosses over the First and Second Wars, and characters like Lothar and Orgrim Doomhammer have been more or less forgotten. Keep a tight focus in the first film, and suddenly a WCIII adaptation becomes possible, as you don't have to spend a vast portion of the film explaining backstory.

This should be merged with the new thread someone made yesterday. And I think just "Warcraft" is the current title.

Yeah, they are judging from the trailer doing the origin of everything way back in the first game(s) before moving into the WOW expanded storyline.

Put me in the camp that is interested in this just for Jones.
