Duncan Jones' Warcraft

I definitely get what you're trying to say when it comes to Pac Rim.

Warcraft does seem like a wild card. But like you said, it all depends on the trailers.

The better question is will Leeroy Jenkins be in the movie?

I hope he gets a cameo or reference of some sort. He's so famous even non-WOW players have heard of him.

I think the element than can separate Warcraft from other sword & sorcery fantasy tales is the technological innovations of the fictional characters within the fictional lands. Gnomeragen, the DeepRun Tram, Ironforge, various motor powered vehicles, and many other areas would really let any audience know that this isn't Dungeons & Dragons, it's not Lord of the RIngs, it's something else that is entirely it's own entity. A subway system in a Lord of the Rings type world really would show people something they haven't seen before.

The goblins are innovators, too. There are several races that make this more than just another knock off of LOTR or D&D but they have to show that to the general audience and not focus on the typical trappings of sword and sorcery fantasy films.

Duncan Jones’ WARCRAFT Set to Begin Filming on January 13th

The World of Warcraft movie is finally coming to fruition. After Legendary showed off a highly promising reel of test footage from Moon director Duncan Jones’ adaptation at Comic-Con, the studio announced that filming would begin in early 2014. Indeed it will, as Production Weekly now reports that filming on Warcraft is officially slated to begin on January 13th in Vancouver. Casting has yet to be announced, but if the January date sticks then we should expect to hear word on that front very soon.
Recent rumors suggest that the film will be a full-blooded fantasy pic in the vein of The Lord of the Rings, and it’s said to more closely follow the real time strategy video games from the mid-90s instead of the current iteration of the game—that will be saved for further installments in the potential franchise. Warcraft is being eyed for release in 2015.

:awesome:

So long as we get a villain who does more than sit around hissing, and a fantastic setting, that's great.

I'm promise you all, with Duncan Jones behind this, this will be visually epic. I hope it'll catch on with the public.

lets hope they give him creative freedom with the look. because when a hollywood studio tells the direct how a movie needs to look you get Ronin 47. so boring looking so boring.

Jones is good. he is very good.

This movie being visually epic was already a given with Legendary behind it. Jones will make those visuals matter, though.

I'm guessing it will be Gul'dan.

Interesting; if they do a straight adaption of the orcs' origins, I'll be interested to see the critical response. I haven't played Warcraft, but the stuff I've seen of it has a steampunk-magic aesthetic that could be fantastic if done right.

I wonder how much grinding training the characters will do before they actually get to fight the main boss villain.

Lord of the Rings had some of the most epic walking of all time (seriously, New Zealand was freaking gorgeous to look at, well done Jackson). If Warcraft can do that, then bring on the walking.

I can't wait to see what their take of the Barrens will be like, or if they'll do a Mankrik's wife reference.

No thank you, sir. I don't want another travel brochure. :o

You don't walk in WoW, you use a mount, a griffin, ask a mage for a portal or a warlock for a TP. Noob.
If the movie is accurate our heroes will probably gather at the nearest Inn and use dungeon finder to directly teleport to the action scene.

PS : the noob thing is a joke.

If they go to the Goldshire Inn we'll see things that cannot be unseen or unheard. And get an NC-17 rating.

I wonder how legit this site is.

Main Character Description for 'Warcraft' Casting Call

According to Acting Auditions a brand new casting call has come out for 'Warcraft' movie. This film focases on the World of Warcraft MMO computer game. Extras are being sought after in Vancouver including the very first character description for the main character!

The role was described as a late 30's male with an athletic muscular build and nice jaw line, handsome in a manly worldly way, with a "face worthy of a Sergio Leone close up".

The main character is set to be a new hero described as a "kick-ass Human" and an "Anti-Thrall".
Eidt: Found another article. No one else has reported this, and I've never heard of this site. Taking this with a grain of salt, plus doesn't this conflict with earlier reports on the plot?

'World of Warcraft' Movie Plot Hits!

Earlier today Acting Auditions released the first main character descriptions which we brought you HERE for the upcoming Warcraft film directed by Duncan Jones (Source Code). Now they also released the first full plot description of the upcoming video game movie!
His evil is legend. Lord of the undead Scourge, wielder of the runeblade Frostmourne, and enemy of the free peoples of Azeroth. The Lich King is an entity of incalculable power and unparalleled malice - his icy soul utterly consumed by his plans to destroy all life on the World of Warcraft. But it was not always so. Long before his soul was fused with that of the orc shaman Ner'zhul, the Lich King was Arthas Menethil, crown prince of Lordaeron and faithful paladin of the Silver Hand. When a plague of undeath threatened all that he loved, Arthas was driven to pursue an ill-fated quest for a runeblade powerful enough to save his homeland. Yet the object of his search would exact a heavy price from its new master, beginning a horrifying descent into damnation. Arthas's path would lead him through the arctic northern wastes toward the Frozen Throne, where he would face, at long last, the darkest of destinies.

From what I last read it is wise to be doubtful because their intention is to start with Warcraft, not World of Warcraft and Thrall and Arthas don't come along until later in Warcraft 3.

I just don't believe Warcraft can be translated to a movie. I think its unfilmable.

^Didn't they say that about LOTR? That's probably how it's gonna be done.
