Duncan Jones' Warcraft

If its delayed I rather wait more and have the movie premiere on december 18 2016. Yes this should be a winter/christmas film just like LOTR it has that feeling. But I'm thinking they will move it a week dec 25, 2015 to let a bit of the SW smoke clear off. I mean if this movie's marketed well and if it looks as great as LOTR did back in the day I think it could have a chance of having big enough hype despite SW being in the way.

with that aside I want to post this to show what I want the orcs to look like.

I wonder if the crowd knows who Duncan Jones is?

I've got a friend who works at Blizzard and Dave Groul was playing on drums with the "Blizzard" house band. To many it would've been a big deal, but my friend noticed how uninterested the crowd was. They had no idea who Dave was..which was expected.

Anyway, very informative. I looks like ILM will be working on the Orcs. Concept art starts at 13:33. And many of the designs will be partially done by BLIZZARD themselves!

The highlights from Blizzcon:
  • Duncan Jones has played the Warcraft games, World of Warcraft, and even Lost Vikings. He originally played Ultima Online.
  • The Special Effects supervisor plays World of Warcraft and is level 90.
  • Marketing hasn't started yet, so there isn't a ton to reveal yet.
  • Jones liked the script, but it was very Alliance centric. He thought it would be better to make it about both sides and the original Warcraft.
  • Jones turned down other films because he was really passionate about working on Warcraft.
  • While working on Golden Compass, the special effects supervisor got up at 2 in the morning to do runs with his guild.
  • Real actors will be used for the Orcs.
  • Avatar meets Game of Thrones as far as complexity of visual effects with live action, advanced special effects, and motion capture on set.
  • There is a lot of Warcraft lore, so they had to pick a certain amount of the lore for this movie.
  • The team has to figure out which characters to shine the spotlight on.
  • There is concept art for Draenor, Dalaran, Ironforge, Stormwind
  • Making environments for the game has a lot of restrictions, but in the movie you can expand on the environment with less restriction and make it more grand / cinematic.
  • Many locations in the film will be on built sets, like the Lion's Pride Inn.
  • The most famous character in World of Warcraft is the actual world itself.
  • Wardrobe and Costume design is being done by someone that has worked on Avatar.
  • The team is looking at details as small as the bark on the trees in Elwynn Forest.
  • People who don't know the world and people who are hardcore players will both enjoy the film.
  • The story is Orcs vs Humans. Lothar and Durotan.
  • Durotan represents the highest ideal of the Orcs. He believes in his people and his future.
  • Both want to do the right thing for their people.
  • The games weren't the best way to tell this story originally, so the movie will be a great opportunity to tell the story in an even more epic way.
  • Someone has to win and someone has to lose, but everyone loses at least a little bit.
  • The style of this war movie will be similar to Gladiator, gritty.
  • WoW doesn't have scabbards, so where swords will go has to be worked out.
  • There are no plans for an art book for the movie, but it is a possibility.
  • Lots of the cast has been picked out.
  • The first movie has to be done right, then they can think about doing more.
  • The majority of the movie takes place in the Eastern Kingdoms.
  • The lore of this time doesn't have many female characters, but the producers are pushing for including some female characters.
  • We will see a preview sometime next year, maybe at Blizzcon.
  • Metzen would like to do a TV series one day. When they originally decided to do a movie, Game of Thrones didn't exist on TV yet, so most similar stories were told in movies. If everything goes well, maybe a studio will want to do a TV show.
  • The Lord of the Rings movies inspired Jones to want to do this movie. He wants to match or beat them at making an awesome movie.
  • Someone is working on the Orcish language for the movie.
  • The movie will be PG13, but the PG13 rating is shifting. Batman movies are PG13.

It's interesting how Duncan doesn't even acknowledge The Hobbit, heh.

Those landscapes are gorgeous. I hope they don't overly rely on green screen for it.

I do wonder why Jackson decided to go CGI in the Hobbit after using mostly practical effects in LOTR?

I know why. Because he went through hell fiming LOTR that he decided a more focused use of CG and greenscreen is a lot easier to do this time around. I don't blame him but it does affect the look of the Hobbit which looks very digital. Too much clarity.

It was the Battle of Helm's Deep that contributed to his decision.

Essentially. Month or more of night shoots with simulated rain and prosthetics and conatant make up adjustments and editing and 2nd unit directing duties...he bout snapped.

So, basically something similar to George Lucas and the PT?

Damn if I was already excited for this now my excitement is going through the roof. My question is though will there be actual villains? The way they talk about it is like there will be no villains, just very complex characters, two races and each one feels they're the good guys.

But I'm guessing inside the orc clans there will actually be some rotten eggs that do not want to just co-excist with the rest of the world but actually wipe out the humans.I think they will betray durotan and will be the actual bad guys. I'm thinking probably one of durotans commanders, someone that has a high position in the orc society and the army. I'm also guessing the same will happen in the human side. Another thing I wonder is will there be other races, night elves, dwarves, trolls? I mean if Jones was inspired by LOTR I guess there will be a huge world with many fantastical races in it which will play a role in the whole thing.

Those visuals are exactly what I expected from Legendary. Looks beautiful.

Does not look too shabby.

If they can successfully translated that concept art into a live-action film, then this film will be visually GORGEOUS at the very least. Now I'm just waiting on some official casting news.

Except Jackson still makes great movies.

And they don't mention The Hobbit because the tone is completely different than this or Lord of the Rings. World of Warcraft will hope to make as much money.
