I heard that they were actually very surprised by the response.

So they assumed/expected people to be so thrilled&excited for everything about XB1 going into E3?,IF so..May have worked IF they hadn't said anything after the reveal and mention the used games stuff for the first time at E3

Yes, they thought everyone was going to love the Xbone. Which to me shows just how out of touch they are. I understand that from a business perspective targeting the general consumer just makes sense, but they ought to have the presence of mind to understand that doing so will draw the ire of the people who want consoles for games first and all that other stuff second, if at all.

Bottom line: Whether the response was warranted or not, Microsoft should have expected it. That they didn't is troubling.

All is forgiven if they give me a free Xbox on June 10. ;) .

About 10 days to go! I gotta admit I'm getting pretty excited about it at the moment. I've compiled my list of predictions for below.

Sony

- Sony go heavy on Vita for the first third of the show.
- A new Uncharted is shown, but it's the follow-up to Bend's Golden Abyss on Vita, not the next Naughty Dog game.
- A demo of Freedom Wars
- Patapon + Locoroco come to Vita.
- Hideo Kojima announces that, in the spirit of his 'transfarring' stuff, some part of the MGSV experience will head to Vita
- The PS4 segment will take up most of the show, with a revolving door of reveals and demos set up much like on February 20th.
- Media Molecule will reveal their PS4 title.
- The Last Guardian will be confirmed for PS4.
- The PS4 will be revealed to be launching at least a week after the Xbox One for more money.
- Post conference interviews will reveal the same nasty facts that came out after the Xbox One conference.

Microsoft

- Microsoft will have impressive exclusives to show, but will be third-party dependent as usual.
- A previously this gen-only game, like Splinter Cell: Blacklist or Batman: Arkham Origins will be revealed as heading to Xbox One.
- Ryse will return will a full blow out this time, completely with launch-window release.
- Epic will show Shadow Complex 2 heading exclusively to Xbox One.
- The show will open with a gameplay demo of Ghosts.
- Mirror's Edge 2 is revealed on this stage.
- 343's next game will be shown/teased but it will be the Anniversary Edition of Halo 2.
- Quantum Break is demoed and revealed to somehow actually tie-in to the Alan Wake universe.
- Microsoft introduces their subscription service that allows them to sell the console cheaper than the PS4 to thunderous applause.

I think surprisingly Microsoft is going to be all about the exclusives for them. They said there are 15 in the process of being made and they've spent a billion dollars on game development for xbox one.

mostly sports and fps's I bet :P

But anyway...I never found the 360 exclusives that great. I guess I just don't like their game tastes.

You think Microsoft are going to make a load of sports games? Unless you're talking Kinect I don't know why they'd try and compete with EA, one of thier partners, in a market that they've pretty much got tied up & that Microsoft have almost no experience in.

FPS & TPS sure but most of the games that move systems involve that nowadays.

The whole "one billion dollars" and "15 exclusives" thing is completely meaningless until we know many of them are Kinect games, timed exclusives, etc.

It's 15 chances for something decent. Better than if they'd said we're spending $80m on 3 exclusives in year 1. And even those could still all be Kinect games or timed CoD content. :woot:

Kinect programming might be expensive but the usual games are low spec. I can't imagine them costing anything like a top AAA game. Same goes for most XBLA games. If there's any truth at all to either the $1B figure or the number of exclusives the odds of getting at least 1 or 2 good retail games is much higher. Another Gears level retail game is what I think they should be aiming for instead of quantity of exclusives.

Well so far that's Forza 5, Quantum Break and Ryse. I would say it's almost confirmed that another slot at least will be taken up by Rare's Killer Instinct reboot, and then another three or so for Kinectimals 2, Kinect Sports 3 and, Just Dance 4. Probably a good guess that Halo 2 HD is one of those too. Then XBLA games, three or four maybe?

The rest? Who knows.

For me the exclusives may make me buy X-Box One, however i'm more byassed for PS4 because it doesn't restrct zones and doesn't make you pay in order to activate used games.

Xbox needs some major, out of this world exclusives, for me to consider getting one. With the PS4, I don't even need to know the exclusives. All I need to know is that Naughty Dog, Quantic Dream and Sucker Punch will continue to develop games for Sony.

Did Sony announce something?

This.

The only thing Microsoft has that I want is Halo. Not a fan of Gears, not a fan of Fable (past the first) so...

No, but i doubt they'll make the same mistake X-Box One did, considering they don't make you pay to use Playstation network like x-box live does, but if they do have the same problem then i'll be up to the console with the best exclusives and launch titles.

I think people who are waving the Sony flag hardcore are probably in for disappointment in the future.

I'm expecting DRM of some sort. I just hope they'll do it differently from Microsoft. 1. Leave it up to the developers to include DRM in their games. 2. No mandatory online check ups, to check if I'm allowed to play my games.

Yeah, probably, i heard X-Box fans were getting very vocal about their support up until the reveal

Ah for some reason I thought that video was going to show great game clips rather than just text lol. :woot::csad: Guess that's what E3 itself is for. :o

The only thing I really want to see from SE is an announcement for a Tomb Raider sequel. But given that the game just released and they're most likely still going to try to pimp stuff for the MP, I doubt we'll even hear about a sequel for another year or two.

Terrible business decision that they could have probably got away with if implemented earlier. They'll never make that relatively low cost revenue back even if they sell a tonne more consoles, and especially if the next gen is a long one. Being better on Live fees, no used game fees, less adverts etc are just ways of forgoing revenue to please your customers. The same as a price cut. Sony don't actually want this as it will cost them probably hundreds of millions across the generation. Better for them would have been to emulate an unsaid price fixing type cartel with Microsoft which would benefit both particularly at launch but they've managed to do the opposite.

Maybe not all the fans understand this issue but the manufacturer they're 'supporting' is not in a guaranteed-to-succeed industry despite the great successes they've had so far across 3 generations. They face unbelievably huge investment & risk so if all these demands cut their revenue (or prevent new revenue streams) in various ways and people still expect a low price launch console that will perform on par with expensive pc hardware...where exactly is the guy you're supporting supposed to make the big money that justifies such a huge risk? Sony would do better to differentiate on features and games (which they're doing fine on) even further rather than erode away their own margins in a price war with a bigger company with deeper pockets.

Sony just came out saying that used game DRM will be up to the publishers as opposed to making it mandatory like Microsoft is doing and will be supporting used games like normal depending on the publisher. So basically expect EA and Ubisoft to act like a bunch of asshats while Activision and Take-Two support adding more value to their games.
