Spider-man will be sold to Marvel within an year,Sony is on the brink of bankruptcy
This isn't going to happen, but if it does remind me of this post, so you can laugh and mock my stupidity. :woot:

OMG A raccon and a talking tree made money !
Whats next ? A franchise of movies about spiders and gobblins making 700-900 mil ? Or a movie about a bat with tights WITH NO ACTUAL SUPERPOWERS making a billion?

Cut the crap about the risk GoTG was. IT WASNT.

If u thought even for a second that Marvel (After Avengers and i mean the quality the provided and not the "Avengers efffect") would make a bomb its your problem.

again (im sad to have to repeat myself)

you re claiming that> MARVEL STUDIOS (AN ABSOLUTE GAME CHANGER IN THE INDUSTRY)
will flop a movie that is

SFI-FI
FANTASY
STAR WARSish vibe
COMIC BOOK propertie
SUPERHERO propertie
HUGE ENSEMBLE CAST (with Vin Diesel who has gazillion facebook fans doing PR)
MARVEL STUDIOS ESTABLISHED QUALITY FILMS

yeah that seems like a flop ready to happen to me..... (im buffled)

at this point u have to realize that Ant-Man ,Ms Marvel , Black Panther ,Inhumans , Doc Strange or pretty much ANY Marvel Studios propertie will have real trouble to miss the 400+ mil total gross WW. 150 mil DOM and 250 mil OS is guarenteed for ANY movie they ll make next. (even squirrel girl)

The Wolverine made 282 mil OS. NO WAY in hell any MCU movie makes less than that from this point on. and im guessing 176 mil that Cap 1 did is the low mark for DOM totals.

WELCOME to the game changing world of Marvel Studios... (Fingers Crossed for Warner Bros to keep up)
Again all that coming post CAP2 TWS. Which points to the fact that Marvel is pretty good at making QUALITY movies and for that reason alone they cant bomb.

Take a look at the 100 movies of all time and see how many Superhero movies are there. And after 2016 they ll be EVEN MORE

Superhero movies are the REAL GAME CHANGER. and they wont end like Harry Potter.

HOW is a surprise that QUALITY superhero movies make ton of money ? Even if they have raccons in it. Pretty much all superhero comics are ridiculus and outlandish.

I dont see why GoTG was more than any...

P.S. Marvel Studios are making 3 movies per year starting from 2017 if u didnt noticed . Thats a big win for us. :)

I don't think people were generally dismissing Guardians of the Galaxy or the quality of Marvel's output when describing this film as a risky prospect. It wasn't for me, I was sold on it right away. But "quality" isn't always the most reliable barometer for what will connect with a general audience: I've seen great movies flop, and utter stinkers do gonzo box office. I won't lie, I was much less worried about the prospect of the film not being great (I've long been confident it would be) and I was about it not getting the recognition it deserved from a wider audience.

Yes, the film has a lot of marketable elements on paper. But it features characters who are largely unknown entities. And in this era of sequels and prequels and remakes and reboots, it at times feels like a minor miracle when a new idea even makes it onto the blockbuster release slate, never mind does well at the box office. But occasions like this renew my faith in the tastes of audiences. And after this, surely no one can doubt Marvel Studios' ability to make a hit out of anything!

What needs to be distinguished is how much of the discussion before hand was thoughtful and how much was it hate for hate and fear of the Marvel machine. I love to talk box office chances, no matter the film. Same with the likes of I SEE SPIDEY and Spider-Fan. But then we have those that become experts overnight when they want to pump up their franchise, while playing down another.

At the risk of side tracking even more, I wonder what Sony is thinking right now? Their Super-hero franchise featuring the top Marvel A-lister is going downhill, while Marvel is making bank with E-listers
well, to be fair, we've had 5 Spider-man movie in the 12 years, so, naturally people are going to gravitate towards something new/different that they haven't already seen (people take Spider-man for granted at this point)

A-list/ E-list is all kinda irreverent to the GA who are introduce to these characters through the movies

Where are the people who predicted a $40m opening weekend now?

Well I will give credit where its due.

Marvel deserves an applause for bring such unknown characters on the big screen and making them a success(both critically and commercially)
While Sony deserves to be bashed for what they did to Spidey, your point about franchise fatigue may explain the box office, but it doesn't explain why it has been received so badly

Who else is excited for people to keep pulling the "this will be Marvel's first flop"card in the future?

Eating crow.:oldrazz: Or better yet, where are the people who predicted this would make less than 200 mil in it's entire run?:funny:

It's gonna start up again when we get closer to Antman.

I predicted 400+ million worldwide. Is it safe to say this film might make more than that especially if it opens with anything over 90 mil OP? If this film pulls in IM2 or Thor 2 numbers, Marvel will be the new Pixar. I can only imagine what AOU is going to do at the B.O.

They pretty much already are. The only thing stopping the consensus is fanboys. I like all comic movies but Marvel is playing in a league by themselves for now.

I feel Ant-Man's bad talk has good reasoning behind it, there's so much drama behind the movie.

GOTG was never a real risk for the studio, it was simply something new so the internet hivemind started making up things.

Where is this new Pixar comparison coming from?

Wouldn't agree more. It's incredible really.

I was talking about Marvel Studios being like Pixar interms of being a recognizable brand. Like any film they put out, people will flock to see them because they recognize the brand.

That makes sense.

I have a feeling that Ant-Man will do well, and I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt.

That makes sense.

In terms of quality, IMO Pixar are untouchable. The Toy Story Trilogy, The Incredibles etc are great films. They hold a special place in my heart because I grew up watching them. The only 'meh' film they made was Cars 2. But overall, I've enjoyed all their films.

Ant-Man will make money no doubt there BUT the real question here is, will it be a good movie or not.:oldrazz:

Seems like it's coming from Disney and the corporate world.
The consensus is that while there are obvious synergies, it goes against Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger's strategy for growing the company, which has been through acquisitions of powerful singular brands such as Pixar and Marvel. "Never," analyst Nathanson said. "Bob's strategy has been to target specialized content."

Interesting tidbit from the most recent Hollywood Reporter article:
Trying to tame expectations, Disney insiders say the movie is on course to gross $85 million to $95 million for the weekend; rivals put it at $95 million or slightly higher.

GoTG goal was to reach IM2 or Thor 2 TDW numbers. 600-650 mil. (beating Thor 1 449 mil was pretty much guarenteed)

Now the goal is to reach CAP 2 TWS or XMEN DoFP numbers. 700-750 mil.
Who knows maybe it will do 775-800 mil. Depends on OS markets since we already know where DOM gross is going 250-280 mil.

To be honest whatever the reasons are GoTG did so well i have to say one thing.
When the 1st posters and 1st trailer hit if a person wasnt sold he doesnt have much of a taste imo. And should probably stick to dramas ,romantic comedies and nolanites cause he wont like Guardians much anyways.

P.S. As for Ant-Man yes i agree it will do huge numbers too. The question is how good will it be as a film. Im guessing its gonna be at least B- and make at least 550 mil WW.

When it comes release time, we always get the "Team X, Y, or Z" posters, LOL! Which I get because fans want their property to continue. When disappointing numbers come out, it is hard for the fans of said movie. Now, when things like GotG comes along and beats the thursdays of every movie prior this year, then it is awesoem to be a fan, LOL! I'm interested to see what GotG's final numbers for the OW look like. So far, looking good.

Before the summer by box-office predictions were

1.TASM2
2.TWS
3.DOFP
4.GOTG

It might very well end up being upside down now!

Considering the reaction to the Comic-Con footage, lets just say WB and DC look just fine going forward. And Goyer is not in charge of BvS or JL.

Reaction? It was a 30 second scene of Batman and Superman looking at each in Live Action for the first time. Not sure how reaction to that equates to it being a quality movie just yet.

Never thought I would see the day a Guardians movie could end up having the biggest opening of the year. Awesome stuff, I am such a happy Guardians fan right now. I never expected this to flop, but I predicted around Thor 1 numbers, think it will go beyond that now.

You haven't been reading the financial papers in a while huh? Spiderman was one of the most profitable thing Sony had going and it didn't make anywhere near the money it had hoped which is why this chatter of selling off some of its properties have come up. Not sure if it will be a year but its going to happen.
