I think GOTG will do huge internationally, especially after I heard that its IMAX screening was terrific (and people who commented how good its 3D is). Domestically, it's harder to predict. I hope it will open around 70-80 mil OW and ends above 200 mil, but it could go either way.

Really? The only movies I really liked last year were The Wolverine & Frozen.

Also, I hope Foxtastic Four isn't one of the movies you plan on seeing next year. :oldrazz: Every comic fan should boycott that POS.

No plans on seeing that crappy movie and plan on telling everyone who will listen the same thing, but I doubt that thing is actually made. Until I see some footage, I won't believe it.

It might not be a crappy movie. It may even be great. But one thing is certain, it will be a crappy adaptation of the Fantastic Four.

One particular version yes. Might be quite accurate to another version, who knows.

I keep an open mind either way. But i'm not a fan of anything Ultimate.

I refuse to pay for anything FOX related. Period. Could be the best film ever made and I will not spend a dime on it

Why? DoFP was good and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes looks fantastic.

Its really silly. Its one thing to dislike Fox, but if their movie is getting good reviews then why not and check them out.

Even if its the worst movie ever, I'll check it out. I have Marvel films like Punisher: War Zone/Ghost Rider on DVD and I even saw Spirit of Vengeance in theater despite all the bad reviews and word of mouth from the audience.

Exactly

Fox are killing it in recent years. The mistakes of the best are long gone

While I enjoyed DoFP, I can't say it was great. I won't be rushing to own a personal copy when it becomes available.

DOFP, The Wolverine and First Class were all good to great films. Just poor representation of the X-Men imo. However, I'm very cautous of the FF reboot. Everything I've heard so far I don't like and I won't boycott it. I'll never boycott a cbm especially in this day and age were we're being spoiled by CBMs. I'll check it out but I'd be lying if I say it doesn't look like a trainwreck.:oldrazz:

If he doesn't want to see a Fox-produced movie, he doesn't have to. Just like it's okay for people to not go see Marvel movies if they don't want to. I have my own reasons for not seeing the X-Men movie until it's available for rent. I'm not going to form an opinion about it though until then....

Anyways, GOTG! Hope the tracking increases over the next few weeks! It'll be very interesting to see DOTPOTA and how well it performs this weekend.

So many thumbs up! It's like some of these people are paid by Fox to say somethings here. Dude doesn't want to see any of their movies and I don't blame him, especially with ticket prices as they are. Nothing that will be said will change his or my mind.

Ticket prices are a huge reason I see maybe four or five movies a year. Child care is another.

It's so expensive, vs. going to the park or beach for a day LOL!

Okay, seriously. Why do people keep bringing up the Apes movies? Yes, they went over fairly well. This has *nothing to do with Fox's ability to do quality comic adaptations whatsoever*. They are a completely different type of franchise source, a completely different genre, and have basically none of the same personnel in common.

I just find it baffling that people are "homers" for movie studios. Fans taking sides between Marvel Studios, Sony and Fox is just... mind boggling to me. They are big corporate movie studios who only care about our money, at the end of the day.

It's dumber than Marvel vs DC in my view.

Eh I'm a big comic book fan. I'm a huge fan of the X-Men more so that the Avengers and any other superhero teams out there. Whilst X-2, FC and DOFP are great films, they are not even good X-men adaptations imo. I have never liked how most of the character's have been handled and the focus on Wolverine was pure nonsense. That's just me being a fanboy though. What really bothers me Fox's seemingly boundless ability to misinterpret the true spirit of the X-Men comics especially when Brian Singer is at helm of the films. He still misunderstands some of these characters. But unlike other directors from the past who have butchered comic book adaptations, Singer's interpretation of the characters makes you question the changes that were made especially if you're a hardcore X-Men fan like me. Fox and Singer are still responsible for the terrible characterizations, ****** costumes, misrepresented powers and blatant unneccessary source material deviations.

One of the greatest difficulties in writing about a film is finding the balance between objectivity and subjectivity – is the film really good/bad, or is it just the way you personally are reacting to it? This is particularly troublesome when you have a special affection for the material. There’s no blank slate – you’re bringing your own history with the story and wishes for it into the film. That's what happens when I watch the X-Men film. I have so much love for the source that when they fail to deliever, I get dissapointed. Don't get me wrong, most of the X-films are good even great as I've discussed before but just fail being at least a good X-Men adaptation for me. Seriously if you go pick up the Astonishing X-Men or Uncanny X-Men and come back and watch the films, you'll be like what the hell?

Nonetheless, I just wanna see a great film regardless of what studio makes it. Give me a great story, great characters and a great film overall and I'll be happy. DOFP, Cap 2 etc succeeded on that level for me. GOTG was actually a fun space adventure but it was no Cap 2 or DOFP. It is it's own thing and very self aware of what it is. So it's a great film in that regard. I'm sure Marvel has another hit on their hands.

I understand that, totally.

For example i'm a huge Batman fan. Have been since i was like, 6.

The first two Nolan films are great films. But are they great portrayals of Batman? No, not in my view. For me Batman himself is the weakest aspect of The Dark Knight. Frankly, i think he's lame as hell.

But i still recognise Batman Begins and The Dark Knight as great films... and i'm not going to boycott Warner Brothers films. It's just a silly mentality.

Harry, don't be silly. The point is that blind allegiance to a mega studio makes no sense. Some of their upcoming films will be good, some not so good, some downright terrible. That's the way it was, is and shall be. Same goes for Sony, WB and Disney. (Marvel Studios is not analogous to Fox for obvious reasons.)

If you want to look at just their marvel comics properties, Fox has had success with exactly one: the X-Men. And that has been a decidedly mixed bag. Even recently, there has only been one bona fide great film, though i enjoyed much of FC and The Wolverine.

FF has been an unmitigated, and unnecessary, disaster. And until we have an actual movie to judge, there is no reason to assume this reboot will be any different.

Agree with this, I still think TDK was a masterpiece though.:oldrazz:
