Bandai-Namco Elden Ring

I finished my first play through, and while I don't think it's quite at the level of Bloodborne and Sekiro, it's all kinds of amazing. Already started a second play through.

If anyone else SUCKS at this game the way that I do and can’t get past Margit, I highly recommend getting that scarlet rot dog ash of war. It makes the battle SO much easier.

Beating Margit is no easy challenge as its the first real souls boss you encounter so don't worry about struggling against him.

Once you've defeated Margit that takes you off the "I suck at this game list".

Haha good to know. Yeah, he’s insanely hard to fight (even if smug gamers on YouTube beat him with a level one wretch and nothing but a club lol). I think it’s his hit combos and trying to perfectly time your dodges. I watched some tutorial videos and people are like, “your best option is to roll towards him when he leaps up with his magic hammer.” Yeah, that does work if you land in the exact spot where he lands but if you’re off by an inch, half your lifebar is gone, lol.

Have you found Margit's Shackle? It's an item designed specifically to help you in this boss fight. And what level are you? I think anything under 20 and you're really better to just keep exploring and levelling up.

For me, I think I was about lvl 28, but had a nicely upgraded sword by a few levels. If you use the shackle twice early, it means all your allies are alive during his 2nd phase and they can keep the aggro while you fight from behind.

Yep, I had the shackle and I was level 35 or so. And I had the jellyfish and wolves summons. But the best I ever did was get him down to about 1/4 of his health bar. That scarlet rot dog was the only option lol.

I did it as a Samurai but had the Jellyfish and the sorcerer help. Funny enough I think Margit was harder than Godrick lmao.

Keep these strats in mind for later as you might run into Margit again.

Want a good example of From not playing fair? They nerf some of the most powerful weapons, but leave those ****ing small bleed dogs untouched. Those things apparently do over 11,000 dps before bleed damage is even applied! They can one shot late game builds.

An emaciated labrador sized dog.

Whats worse is they spam attack and stick to their target like glue interrupting attacks and defense.

the dogs are absolutely the worst

I am new at this game and this is my first Souls game encounter.

It's an absolutely horrendous experience, but at the same time, it's a beautifully crafted world with tons of stuff to explore.

I am lvl 41 (Samurai, with a melee build and emphasis on Vigor/Dex) and right after Godrick. I was able to beat Margit around lvl 25 after many, many tries, but Godrick was something else. I fought him around 30 times (no exaggeration) and at some point nearly rage-uninstalled.

I somehow managed to down him yesterday with the help of the Jellyfish summon, after hours and hours of exploring and grinding.

Boss fights in this game are horrible. My rolls/dodges rarely land and I end up with half my health gone from 1 hit. I don't even want to imagine the rest of the bosses ahead after having suffered through Margit & Godrick.

My partner also got hyped after watching me play and bought the game (her first Souls game too). She can't pass Margit and is hating the whole experience so far. We even co-op'd him at my current lvl, but half my stuff is locked when I play with her so we end up dead over and over again.

Is it normal for these games to be this hard? It's hard to the point of where it's not an enjoyable experience anymore. Even the crafting, equipment and items menus are so confusing, difficult to navigate and I have no idea what I am doing.

If a friend of mine didn't tell me about Round table and that girl setting shop in front of the other merchant (to upgrade Ashes), I probably would've missed doing it lol.

Yes.

Keep in mind that enemies in the game(including bosses) all have a weakness to certain attack types. The game doesn't explicitly tell you this as you sort of have to figure these things out on your own(or use a guide). For example, Godrick is extremely weak to poison and blood attacks. The main reason why you defeated him with the Jellyfish is because the jellyfish attacks cause poison.

The game will reward you for investing your time in exploration and experementing with different battle strategies. You might not have realised it at the time but the game was teaching you an important lesson as you died over and over again.

People have been looking into this and it seems that its a bug.

Its my first Souls type game too but im loving it lol I beat Godrick on my first try cause I had the Jellyfish and the Samurai katana builds up bleed if youre aggressive. Having Nepheli the warrior also helped. I honestly thought Margit was harder than Godrick.

I'm also over leveled cause I looked up cheeses on how to get tons of runes early on. The spirit summons do help A LOT, the Wolves in particular are awesome when leveled up and if you get Oleg from Fringefolk Hero's Grave it makes life so easy.

Here’s the super easy way to beat Margit that I mentioned earlier. He must have killed me 50 times before I tried this.

I..

I.. had those Rotten Stray Ashes during my many attempts with him & didn't realise I could just avoid him & let his health trickle down like that even after it had died. I was still trying to attack him & was always catching one of those stray looping attacks that would one shot me or stun me,

I didn't beat him until I stumbled across the Lone Wolf Spirit Ashes somewhere & they distracted him long enough for me to get my hits in, back off, heal, recover etc.

I haven't played in a week or so but I only got to Godrick yesterday & beat him on my 2nd attempt, I had Nepheli, my wolves & some poison darts I was throwing at him. I didn't actually know he was vulnerable to poison, it was a happy accident.

I've no actual clue how I killed him because the last sword swing took out a massive chunk of health that it hadn't been for the rest of the fight.

I just finished Liurnia of the Lakes so I guess its Caelid time. Should probably beat Radahn now but apparently he's easy to cheese lol

Good on you for not beating him the easy way like I did, haha. I got the Lone Wolf ashes a while back (don’t remember where) and tried using them with him but they didn’t help much. I had better luck with the jellyfish and the five zombies but not enough to take him down.

I have the scarlet rot dragon head incantation now and that really helps with a lot of big enemies. Used it to take out that dragon in Limgrave, as well as crabs and lobsters.

I gotta say that I'm finding that new game plus feels a lot easier than previous souls games.

One complaint I have is the rune distribution for the enemies in this game. Like, those little dudes in the northernmost part of Caelid net you 2000-3000 runes a pop and they’re fairly easy to kill. But I just took out a massive bear who can one shot you easily and is hard to get away from because my stupid horse kept disappearing, and I think I got less runes for killing him.

what little dudes? Gotta keep farming to raise a few more levels but it sucks leveling after 70 haha
