Ballad of Saints: A Fantasy RPG (Short-Term) - OOC Thread

Come this friday, the IC thread will be up so if you have not applied yet please do so because there are plenty of people who wish to start the game. I'm still deciding as to whether or not the application process will be closed when the game starts.

Chance is that if I keep the process open after the game starts I will have to write-in a way that your character comes into the story and depending on where we are in our journey you may then have to wait.

How many people have yet to apply, other than me? I was hoping to see what others are doing character-wise to help me decide on what character to play. I've already eliminated one possibility.

The players that I know are still in the processing of applying have yet to reveal to me anything about their characters. So I have no way of answering that question for you.

The roster post is up to date and that's as much diversity I can show you that is within the game so far.

Alrighty, finally settled on a character and working on the app, however I'm going to be really busy friday and may or may not be able to put it up. If not, it'll definitely be up this weekend. Appy polly loggies for the delay.

I don't know why I'm doing this...

Ballad of Saints

Screen Name: wiegeabo

Character you have created (include known alias or nicknames here as well): Xxymryx (also known as Demon Hunter, Ghost Killer, and Thrice-Damned Elf-Man by his enemies, and even some friends)

Race/Culture (What race is your character, and, if human, what culture does your character hail from, for example is your character Roman, Athenian, Celtic, Norse, Spartan, Persian, etc) (GMs must approve of any race not part of the big 5: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, and Orc): Half human, half dark-elf

Racial Traits (traits specific to your race; a list can be found in the second post of the OOC thread) (For races not listed, GMs must create traits for that race first before player approval): Xxymryx physically looks human. His odd breeding has given him unique offshoots of elven abilities such as lightness of foot, slow-aging, slightly better than human hearing, and excellent night vision. Though a century old, Xxymryx is physically a human in his early 30's.

Character Class (Somewhat similar to the classes in the CAH RPG, but with some differences) (Choose One):

Mystic
Elemental (Fire)
Enchatment
Transformational
Druidic
Speech Color and/or Font (actually say what you're using, i.e. Arial Black; don't go "Like this", or what not): Speaking/Thinking

Character Alignment (Good/Evil/Neutral): Neutral

Character Personality (Give information on how your character acts, what he/she believes in, how they handle situations): Xxymryx is pretty much looking out for number one. He'll help people, but mostly it serves his own purposes, namely revenge, getting paid, or furthering his own secret quest.

Origin Info/Details (don't be blunt, be as thorough as possible): Xxymryx is the son of a female dark-elf who, disguised as a beautiful elf, seduced an unsuspecting human. Her goal, and the goal of her clan, had been to create the perfect blend of human and elf. An army with which to spread their influence.

While Xxymryx isn't the perfect physical specimen they were looking for, that was the least of their problems. For the seduced man was a knight who led a charge to rescue his son. Many dark-elf died, drawing the vengeful anger of the clan. So the knight fled with his son to the only group that could protect them. The goodly elves of the land of Britainy.

But, even though he was raised by elves and his father, Xxymryx still carries the darkness of his elven heritage. And when the dark elves raised demons to finally bring their wayward son home, it was Xxymryx's father who paid the ultimate price.

For the last century, Xxymryx has studied magics and the unnatural, and has traveled the lands of the known world and beyond, searching for the clan on which to exact his revenge, and killing every demon, ghoul, ghost, spirit, and other supernatural creature that threatens people, gets in his way, or just plain makes him mad.

Attributes (Select one from each category) (some races are greater or weaker than a human in specific categories and will be noted below or in the racial traits section of the OOC thread):

Strength Level: Normal Human

Speed/Reaction Timing Level: Normal Elf

Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort/Durability: Peak Human

Agility: Normal Elf

Intelligence: Genius

Fighting Skill: Trained

Resources: Large

Notable Equipment: Xxymryx carries any number of various items on his person, and in his covered horse-drawn cart. He's also made any number of different types of acquantances around the world. Such items range from basic weapons to basic and mid-level magical items for spell casting and spirit fighting, as well as items of basic protection. He also has a number of books and scrolls with magical information.

But his most valuable possesions, which he always carries with him, are a detailed tome on the variety of supernatural, and the methods to defeat them, an enchanted staff of lopsided wood that looks like a cross between club and walking stick (and can function well as either), and sachels hidden within his robes that carry things like money and various supernatural fighters (including salt, cold iron pellets, and holy water).

Weaknesses: Xxymryx must constantly struggle against his darker half. Spells of good and protection are somewhat less effective on him, and he's a bit more vulnerable to the temptations and spells of evil.

Supporting Characters: Around the world are any number of characters Xxymryx has ecountered in his travels that either owe him favors, or the other way around. Xxymryx also travels with a special secret companion that he keeps safely tucked away, but relies on for reasons he keeps to himself...

Describe, using proper English grammar, what you think you can bring to the RPG: The neutrals tend to get limited representation in fantasy, but they can also be the most interesting (and challenging) since they can waver between good and evil without truly being either. I want to bring a character who people see as a hero, who even tends to act heroic, but who's typically anything but.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As many as I can. Usually at least once, maybe twice a day.

Do you know how to post pictures on the hype boards:

Sample Post (Minimum Four decent-sized paragraphs containing dialogue):

"DIE!!!"

"By the gods. Do you realize how many times I have heard that?" I stick my staff into the creature's throat as he leaps at me, and ignite him with flame from the inside. His body dissapates in dark mist and ash. "One would think that immortal beings would take the time to devise more complex threats."

I hear behind me the hissing of the creature's vile breathren, and calmly reach into my robes. At the last moment, I slip to the side faster than most people can see. The vile things land where I was standing, and scream in pain as the purified salt I left on the ground seeps into their skin.

"Damnable ghouls." While they screem in pain, I pull out a blessed dagger and drive it into the brain of one while putting my hand to the other's face. Cleansing fire is the last thing it sees.

I clean my dagger as I walk away, being sure to carefully tuck the bloody rag into a pocket. One never knows when ghoul's blood may be valuable. Infact, there's a certain necromancer in Gaul...

"D-Did you kill them all?" A young woman, the village council leader's lovely daughter, to be specific, steps from behind a tree.

"I asked that no one follow me."

"I know...but...I had to see..."

I nod. "I understand." I do, actually. Danger tends to attract certain people. This is hardly the first village I've dealt with. Nor the first daughter of a village leader.

"So...we are safe now?"

"Yes. The graveyard has been cleansed."

"Thank you so much."

I nod. "Back to the village then."

"Yes. I'm sure you want your payment now," she says, smiling shyly at me.

I smile back. "Indeed." I do enjoy getting paid...

Being a mystic you get 4 points for magic. I am assuming that you have 1 point in each of those types of magic, yes? If so then you are...

IC thread is up. Made it on the wrong account but I'm the only GM for this game so who cares, lol.

EDIT: Simply do your introduction post(s), and I will then move the story along when I see people have posted.

Last edited:
Also, to reiterate, your introduction posts can take place anywhere. It doesn't matter. Do not get thrown off because of the two opening posts of the RPG I have Caed being in a magical tower in the country of Caldoria.

When you have your posts done, I will make a post summoning you by magic to where my character is. I will only be posting as the G&MRPG account when I am writing for Magus and/or his forces working for him.

Ballad of Saints: A Fantasy RPG - Application

Screen Name: Rain Dog

Character you have created (include known alias or nicknames here as well): Rut Marrowdrainer

Race/Culture: Goblin

Racial Traits (traits specific to your race; a list can be found in the second post of the OOC thread) (For races not listed, GMs must create traits for that race first before player approval): ? I'll leave this up to the GM I 'spose.

Character Class (Choose One): Rogue

Patron Deity: None

Speech Color and/or Font(actually say what you're using, i.e. Arial Black; don't go "Like this", or what not): Book Antiqua, Gold

Character Alignment (Good/Neutral): Neutral

Character Personality (Give information on how your character acts, what he/she believes in, how they handle situations): Scrappy, conniving, and resourceful, Rut would appear to make the ideal thief. He is primarily motivated by making a name for himself by acquiring money and power, however, he is not particularly adept at acquiring either. He is not strong or ruthless enough to be an effective warlord, nor does he have any idea of what to do with money once he acquires it, other than spend it on food, ale, and weapons. His hunger for money and power stems more from a massive inferiority complex and the need to prove his worth to the world.

Rut is a bit of a coward when faced with overwhelming odds, especially when his companion Pasha is not around to protect him. Rut also has a prejudice against elves, carried over from his former hobgoblin overlords. Rut himself doesn’t understand fully understand why he doesn’t like them but knows he’s not supposed to.

Origin Info/Details(don't be blunt, be as thorough as possible):
Born to the goblin tribe, Marrowdrainer, Rut was the youngest and weakest in his family unit. In fact, his name was the goblin bastardization of the English word “runt”. Rut was constantly beaten and bullied by his goblin peers, including (and especially) his own family.

Like many goblin tribes, the Marrowdrainers were ruled over by stronger, more cunning members of the goblin family—hobgoblins. The hobgoblins were especially cruel to the lesser goblin races and would use them as slaves and grunt soldiers. Because Rut was too weak and clumsy for manual labor, his hobgoblin overseers decided his best and only use was as cannon fodder.

Rut was trained in combat and showed no exceptional combat prowess. He did, however, surprise his overlords with his skills as a strategist and tactician. He was overjoyed to learn he was elevated to the rank of goblin squad leader and could not wait for the newfound admiration and respect he would receive from his fellow goblins.

It never came. His goblin peers resented him now more than ever, believing his promotion was a mistake and that the young soldier was far too weak and inexperienced to lead. His squad would seldom follow his command and on more than one occasion, during combat drills, would team up to pummel the young commander. Rut’s complaints fell upon deaf ears. To his disappointment, his hobgoblin overlords treated him with no more respect than they did when he was grunt and would ignore his cries for help.

One night, feeling hopeless and betrayed, Rut headed for his tent and began packing his things, planning to somehow escape his horrid life. On the way, he came across a pair of hobgoblin warriors struggling with a young, rebellious bugbear. The bugbears were cousins of the goblins—massive, hairy, brutish behemoths. They were a part of the tribe as well, though they made up the smallest population. The hobgoblins treated them like beasts of burden and would use them as shock troops on the battlefield.

As massive as this particular bugbear was, it, like Rut, was the runt of the litter. It was given the name “Pasha”, meaning “tiny”. Pasha was being tormented by his hobgoblin handlers for disobeying orders and making an attempt to escape the tribe. Sympathizing with the creature and enraged by his constant mistreatment, Rut snuck up behind one of the handlers and slit his throat. Pasha made quick work of the second hobgoblin and took one last, long look at his savior before running off towards the mountains.

Rut hurried towards his tent, hoping to escape before anyone noticed. However, he was stopped by some hobgoblin guards who immediately picked up the scent of the hobgoblin blood that stained Rut’s flesh, clothes, and dagger. He was brought before the hobgoblin chieftain who, disgusted by both the act of treason and the act of compassion, ordered Rut to a slow, excruciatingly painful death.

Rut was put on public display and brutally tortured and humiliated for days. But before death came, Rut had an idea that might just save his life. He challenged the chieftain to a duel. As per goblin tradition, tribes were to be ruled by the strongest. If the tribe chieftain was defeated in a duel, the challenger would take up the mantle of ruler. Unable to refuse, the chieftain had no choice but to free Rut and prepare for their duel.

The entire tribe crowded around the two as they battled. Despite being severely weakened from days of torture and food, water, and sleep deprivation, Rut fought with all his might putting all his strength, valor, and rage into every swing of his blade.

He was still outmatched. The entire time, the chieftain toyed with the young goblin, parrying his strikes with ease and purposely avoiding deathblows to further beat and humiliate Rut. Finally, tired of the game, the chieftain prepared to knock the final breath out of Rut. However, at the last minute, the battle was interrupted by a thunderous crash.

It was none other than Pasha, plowing through the crowd, knocking away anything and everything in his path. Pasha struck the chieftain and stunned the hobgoblin warlord just long enough to grab Rut and escape. Pasha hid in the mountains where he nursed Rut back to health. After Rut had finally healed, the two decided from there on out, they would be each other’s guardians, caretakers, and brothers.

Now Rut and Pasha travel the country together as bandits, moving from town to town, robbing villages and unfortunate travelers. Rut secretly hopes someday, through their thievery, he will be wealthy enough to raise an army and lead his own goblin tribe—one that will be ruled fairly and free from oppression.

Rut is about 3'4", scrawny and has dark, yellowish skin. Because of his excessive physical abuse, Rut has a few deformities, inlcuding a swollen, damaged eye, broken and missing teeth, various scars, and a crooked jaw.

Pasha is about 7'0", incredibly muscular, covered in dark brown fur, and wears purple, worn-down armor.

Attributes:

Strength Level:Weak Human

Speed/Reaction Timing Level Normal Human

Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort/Durability: Weak Human

Agility: More agile than man

Intelligence: slightly belowaverage

Fighting Skill: Trained

Resources: Minimal

Notable Equipment: Rut typically wears raggedy, worn clothes. He owns a hodgepodge of ill-fitting armor in poor repair that he wears when going into battle or “working” (mugging people). Because of the armor’s uneven weight and large size, it is very cumbersome and slows him down a great deal but offers adequate protection. When the armor is not being worn, it’s kept in a large net-satchel carried by Pasha.

Rut carries a goblin short sword on him at all times, even when not in battle gear. He also keeps a cantine of water and a few small pouches of gold, various stolen trinkets (mostly junk—I can go into full detail if you want--but there are a few useful items such as lock picks and vials of poison).

Pasha, as mentioned carries Rut’s heavier belongings (and often, Rut himself), wears armor at all times (also in poor repair), and wields a club carved from a fallen tree.

Weaknesses (If your character has any specific weakness, such as a vampire's weakness to sunlight (among other things) or a Faerie's weakness to iron, list them here): None that I’m aware of.

Supporting Characters (Does your character have a significant other? A mother? A Friend? Who are they, what do they have to do with your character?): Pasha, the Bugbear—Rut’s barbaric counterpart and protector. Unlike Rut, Pasha is enormous and powerful, however, very dull-witted and almost childlike. He is the “muscle” to Rut’s “brains” (if it can be called that). Pasha can only speak the Goblin language and relies on Rut as a translator when dealing with others.

Describe using proper English grammar what you think you can bring to the RPG: Some fun characters that aren’t elves or humans :p. I’m imagining them as something like the R2 & 3PO/Rosencrantz & Gildenstern/Pintel & Ragetti of the group.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As much as I can.

Do you know how to post pictures on the hype boards: Yep.

Sample Post (Minimum Four decent-sized paragraphs containing dialogue):

Sample post coming later, just want to make sure all of the above is in order first.

So far so good, just need a sample post. I'm fine with making Goblin a playable class and will work out the racial traits for ****s and giggles when I can.

Are the racial traits all that important? If not, you can skip it or I could do some research and try to figure them out

I say it depends on the races. For instance, if you look at the Fairy race in this game I have the fairies not being so tiny and such. Whereas typically they aren't very big. Or like with elves where enchantment spells are less effective on them. Those sort of things.

Me’an Pasha was hangin’ round the back of the pub like we does after big hauls—me up front and Pasha stickin’ back inna shadows so’s he don’t scare away customers. Lotsa seedy types and the like innis establishment. The types who’ll buy just about anyfin from anyone, no questions asked. The types we like.

“What are you doin’ in this town, you ugly bastard?”

I don’t like him.

‘Twas a big ol’ ugly y’uman what stepped outta the back door o’the pub. I ain’t never seen‘im before. Musta been a newcomer. A foreigner.

“Well?” he says, real angry-like, drawin’ a blade from’is belt.

“Ain’t goblins supposed to keep outta the cities?”

“I’s an exception!” I plead.

“Oh? And why is that?”

“I’m just a simple merchant, sir. Why don’t ya take a look at what I gots in stock, eh?”

“….Fine,” he says, lowerin’is blade.

I untie the bag from me waist and dump its contents all out’n over the floor. I rummage through it lookin’ for somefin’ that’ll fetch a fine price.

“’Ere! The phylactery of a lich!”

“It’s broken.”

“Right but at a point, it was the phylactery of a lich!”

“Rubbish.”

“’Kay…’ere! A genuine dragon’s tooth! I snagged it offa wizard, I did!”

“That’s a rock!”

“T’ain’t a rock! ‘Tis a genuine…oh…wait…it is a rock, sorry ‘bout that mate….’ere!”

“I’ll tell ya what,” the y’uman says, liftin’ his blade again, “Why don’t I take all of this junk and as payment, I won’t chop yer bloody head off. How’s that sound?”

“GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR”

“The hell was that?”

Pasha steps outta the shadows real slow-like. Suddenly the y’uman don‘t look so tough. Pasha swings’is club and almost splits the bloke’s head in two. After he goes down, I scurry over to’im and go for'is bag o'gold. After I swipe that, I rip the blade from'is clenched fingers, pull off’is fur vest, and hand the loot over'ta Pasha.

“Well, that went better than expected, dinnit

Sometime this evening I'm going to move the story along. So if you want to establish where your character is before they are teleported please do so. If you sample post even is just what you would use I would appreciate it if you post that into the IC thread as your opening post.

I'll make sure to get a post up, trusty.

Stuff came up. Stuff went down. I forgot to post before heading out...the story will be moved along some time today. So some of you have more time to get your intro posts in and applications before things start to move forward.

New post is up. I want each and everyone one of you to get at least 1 post in. I want to move on the story again no later than this Friday. You will know when I'm moving the story as it will be obvious ingame and I will post such in this thread.

You simply just are doing a post of your character being teleported into the tower. How you want them to react is fine by me. I will react accordingly with Caed.

And, yes, there is a reason that Rain Dog's character isn't mentioned yet. Rain Dog feel free to do some posts with your character in the fields outside Cherry Blossom forest. Do not worry about the description of anything. If you do not know anything about Cherry Blossom forest that the area you are nearby is like check the Places of Interest post.

Post you bums!! I wanna move this along so we can get to some good old fighting and what not! :cmad: :awesome:

Yes. Just that depending on when you are accepted and where the IC thread is I will have to figure out how your character enters is all.

I'm gonna have to get a post up after class tomorrow. Too much going on for me to get a good post in tonight and move things along.
