Bandai-Namco Elden Ring

It could be a combination of the high stress gameplay, depth of field, frame rate, eye strain, and motion blur just wearing gamers out. I had to take a break last night because I started feeling weird. I shrugged it off as stress and exhaustion, but it may have been motion sickness.

For me at least, it’s the blur of the surroundings when you turn quickly in a new direction. I’ve been playing third person games for a long time but no game has ever had this kind of effect on me before. It’s a shame because I really like ER but it’s a little difficult to progress through a game this challenging when you need to keep taking breaks to rest your eyes.

Well, I've cleared 3 main bosses, reached level 70, and put about 40 hours into the game.

So far, I can say that I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game. It is the open-world fantasy RPG game that I've long been craving, captivating me in a way that other open-world RPGs, like Skyrim and the Dragon Age series, failed to do.

So glad I've become more open to these From Software/Souls games in recent years, in particular thanks to playing Demon's Souls Remake. Otherwise, I would have dismissed Elden Ring as just "another Souls game."

I've just dicked about for 60+ hours. Godrick is as far as I've got with the main bosses. Did just btfo a wyrm with a giant cleaver the other day though. Turns out meteor magic will knock out bosses easy enough.

Okay I'm 4 great runes down. Definitely further than I ever thought I'd get haha

Also FYI, if you want to collect the cool armour from the ER trailers/Demos, don't beat the serpentlike demi-god boss until you've finished all the Volcano Manor quests... I just learned that the hard way and now I'm missed my chance to get it :(

Good to know. That's the bloody wolf armor set or whatever it's called, isn't it?

And that's why, if there is a specific item I want, I consult the wikis and youtube to make sure I don't mess up any questlines along the way.....haha!

It's the Raging Wolf set. And yeah, I was actually working OFF a wiki, but the way it comes up in the game, the boss fight really feels like it's a connected part of those quests.

I think DS3 is the closest to Elden Ring in terms of its level design and size and would be easy to jump into after Elden Ring.

I'm about 10 hours or so into my character so far, I've beat no named bosses & I'm about level 25 or so. I've largely spent my time riding around aimlessly killing softer mobs & generally exploring the map.

I think I've made a mess of my stat allocation also because I got a self heal incantation that I wasn't able to use & I think I've figured out why, it's because I don't have enough FP to even use it once. At least I think that's the problem anyway.

Probably. I'm not playing Elden Ring (yet or maybe never), but I think that's the case. You should go farm runes, there's dozens of methods. You can become a living God in an hours worth of tims.

Progress update - All the bosses I have found until this point + Margit The Fell Omen are now all dead after I'd found 3 wonderful little wolf spirits that greatly helped distract them when I needed to regen health/endurance.

What also helped was I had collected something that allowed me to craft/carry more health flasks meaning I was able to survive for longer.. probably would have known that sooner if I'd read the information I was being told properly.

One of the bosses dropped a "Grafted Blade Greatsword" which looks the business, but I don't have the attributes to weld it currently :(

Later on in the game you'll gain access to an NPC that allows you to respec your stats so don't worry if your stat allocation isn't perfect.

A general rule for builds in Souls games is to focus mainly on 3-4 stats depending on the build you're going for.

That's what I have been doing so far, I'd been focusing on health, endurance & strength, so some categories have been completely neglected. I've started branching into the other skills though to get them up to a certain amount so I can use certain things.

Is the character respec towards the 'end' of the game?

No, you can actually access the respec option fairly early on, depending on how soon you defeat the "2nd boss" Queen Rennala in the "2nd area" of Liurnia. I say "2nd" because the actual order is left up to the player, but Rennala and Liurnia seem like the natural 2nd step in a default progression route after exploring the 1st area of Limgrave and clearing Stormveil castle.

Once you beat Rennala, she actually becomes the NPC who allows you to respec. But in order to respec, you need an item called a "Larval Tear." You can find these throughout the game, though one is located in a certain village in the south part Liurnia, so that may be the earliest one could find that item.

In regards to the stats themselves, Vigor, Mind, and Endurance are sort of the overall survivability stats.

Everyone can benefit from more HP from Vigor.

And Endurance increases your stamina and equip load, which is especially important if you intend to wield heavier armor and/or weapons.

You need Mind for your FP, and this especially important if you want to cast spells and incantations. The weapon skills also consume FP, so even a non-caster warrior benefits from having some FP.

The other stats are kind of like your "main damage" stats that are tied to your weapon choices. In general, it helps to focus in on one main weapon type, and prioritize the corresponding stat. For example, heavy strong weapons usually scale off of Strength. Lighter faster blades focus on Dex. Magic weapons scale off of Int. And so on.

However, certain weapons, especially the unique or legendary ones, require and/or scale of off multiple stats, but even then, there is usually one stat that the weapon primarily scales of off. And you can usually tell which stat that is by the stat with the highest initial requirement to wield and which stat has the highest initial default scaling.

For example, the Dark Moon Greatsword requires initial stats of Str 16 / Dex 11 / Int 38. The initial scaling is Str D / Dex D / Int C. Judging by that, you can see that even though the moonlight sword requires multiple stats, it clearly prioritizes Int as the main stat. So, this weapon would be more suited for a magic-melee build with high Int rather than high Str.

For multiple stat weapons like the moonlight sword, you generally want to get the bare min stats to wield the weapon, and then focus on the primary stat that it scales off of.

Did you get the 3 wolf spirits from a certain magical mystery witch in a church? If so, that NPC is important, so I encourage you to seek her out later in the game. And also learn more about her lore-wise through item descriptions and dialogue with other NPCs. She's super important lore-wise!

And yes, having those spirit ash summons is indeed helpful for boss fights or other tough areas where summoning is allowed. Always be on the lookout in acquiring more spirit ash summons. And you can even unlock a system to upgrade your summon ashes via a certain NPC's questline.

Also, another tip, certain boss fights may also give you the option to summon other NPCs to assist you, in addition to your spirit ashes. Before a Golden Fog boss door, check to see if there are any golden summon signs on the ground.

And the item that increased your Flask numbers is called a Golden Seed. You can find these throughout the world when you see mini golden trees. These are important to collect to upgrade your flask numbers. Keep in mind, the higher you upgrade your flask numbers, the more Golden Seeds it will require to upgrade. So take advantage of the early upgrades that only require one Gold Seed to increase your flask numbers.

Another flask upgrade item to watch out for is a Sacred Tear. This increases how much HP/FP gets restored by your flasks. So you want to pick those up as well.

And one final flask-related tip. There is actually a 3rd kind of flask in the game, aside from your HP and FP flasks. There's an item called "Flask of Wondrous Physicks" that lets you mix (two at a time) other items called "crystal tears" which are scattered throughout the world. This allows you to essentially craft your own unique potion that can give you a variety of benefits/effects.

For example, you could mix a crystal tear that forms a protective bubble shield around your character with another tear that boosts your strength or another stat. Handy for popping right before a boss to give yourself that extra bit of advantage.

I can't actually recall where or who exactly gave me them, I think I bought 1 at a vender & another was dropped by a boss I killed. They've unquestionably been helpful as they don't often do a lot of damage but they distract stronger foes long enough for you to get your hits in &/or heal if need be.

I've a few incantations found/bought that I need to farm a bit of runes/levels for in order to use them. Been just firing the levels into some of the skills that were still below 10, Faith & Intelligence I believe they both were.

Once I get high enough I'll start pumping them back into strength as I've an axe I got out of a carriage some trolls were trailing & I need I believe it's 30 strength to use & I'm only at 24 I believe.

Good luck! Hope you find a build and playstyle that you enjoy. The respec option is there (though not unlimited), so feel free to experiment.

Spirit ashes are extremely useful and on top of that they can be upgraded just like weapons. One of the best spirit ashes that can be found early in the game is the jellyfish. Its extremely useful as it uses ranged attacks that poison the enemy.

Speaking of spirit ashes, I just picked up the Mimic Tear ash that creates a duplicate of your character. I've heard this is an OP ash and possibly one of the best/strongest.

However, unlike other ashes which use FP, this mimic ash uses your HP. 660 HP to be exact!! So obviously meant more for mid to end-game.

Good to know about DS3. I'm more open to playing that game now after I finish Elden Ring, since it does seem the "closest" in terms of tone and style.

Want to get into Bloodborne, but kind of holding off cuz there are always rumors of some kind of remake/remaster.

This is accurate.

Also. Apparently if you slaughter all the merchants in the game, everything they sell will appear at Roundtable Hold.

Man, Commander Niall is a pain in the arse. I've felled 5 demi gods but some soldier chump is taking me down?
