Bethesda Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

'OBLIVION'....THE GAME THAT KEEPS ON GIVING......OR TAKING, DEPENDING ON HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS. :o

I THINK IT'S BETTER THAN WAITING FOR AN EXPANSION GAME, 8-12 MONTHS LATER, THAT YOU'D LIKELY HAVE TO PAY $40-$60 FOR ANYWAY; THE $1.88/DOWNLOAD/MONTH IS NOT GOING TO BE A STRAIN ON MOST PEOPLE'S BUDGETS.

Yeah I think it's cool, I just hate having actually to pay for it.

ARE THE PC GAMERS GETTING TO PURCHASE THESE SAME ADD-ONS SOMEHOW? THAT'S SOMETHING I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYONE MENTION.

we need to buy'em, not a bad price though.

Is this game as good as Daggerfall was?

I didn't ever play Morrowwind.

I'M NOT A PC GAMER, SO 'MORROWIND' FOR 'XBOX' WAS MY FIRST TIME WITH THE SERIES. BUT, I'D VENTURE TO SAY THIS BLOWS AWAY ANY OF THEIR PAST PC GAMES, SIMPLY BECAUSE IT'S MUCH BETTER THAN 'MORROWIND'......WHICH WAS WIDELY HELD AS THE BEST OF THE SERIES, AT THE TIME. BASICALLY, THE GAME IS SO OPEN-ENDED AND BEAUTIFUL, THAT IT FEELS MORE LIKE A FANTASY VACATION, THAN A VIDEO GAME. WITH 'DOLBY 6.1', A 55" HDTV, AND A COMFY LEATHER COUCH, MY WIFE AND I CAN GET LOST IN THIS GAME FOR 5-10 HOURS AT A TIME, EASY.

I read a very interesting article in Game Informer. It was an editorial, discussing why this precedent of adding on material through the internet is simply a way of leeching more money out of things that should have been included with release.

In other words, why are gamers paying 40-60 dollars for an incomplete game? The writers said it sets up the precedent that developers can make crappy, inept games and them once you pay 60 dollars for it, they can say "Oh! It will be better if you pay more to download online!"

It made some good points. If I'm not too lazy in the near future I'll post it.

I READ THAT VERY ARTICLE.......AND IT WAS PRETTY MUCH BIASED CRAP. BUT, THE MAIN FOCUS OF THAT ARTICLE, WASN'T ON DOWNLOADING ADDITIONAL CONTENT, BUT THE FREQUENT USE OF 'LIVE' FOR PATCHING PROBLEMS. 'COD2', 'MLB07', 'OBLIVION', AND A FEW OTHERS I CAN'T REMEMBER, HAD SOME ISSUES, WHICH HAD TO BE ADDRESSED WITH PATCHES, VIA 'LIVE'. I CAN CERTAINLY SEE WHERE THIS WOULD BE BAD, IF IT WERE A CONSISTENT....OR GROWING.....TREND. BUT, I REALLY DON'T SEE THAT HAPPENING. BUT, THE EXTRA CONTENT IS A GREAT WAY TO KEEP A GAME "FRESH", WITHOUT HAVING TO WAIT FOR "GENERIC FIGHTER: REDUX" TO BE RELEASED, LIKE WE'VE SEEN IN THE PAST. 'COD2:GOTY', 'FARCRY:PREDATOR', 'MGS2:SUBSTANCE', 'MGS3:SUBSISTENCE', 'DOOM 3: RESURRECTION OF EVIL'........THESE ARE THE TYPES OF THINGS THAT BUG THE HELL OUT OF ME. ESPECIALLY WHEN MOST OF THAT CONTENT COULD'VE BEEN RELEASED AS ADD-ONS, LIKE WITH 'OBLIVION'. THE 'MGS' GAMES ARE A BIT DIFFERENT, BECAUSE THE 'PS2' ONLINE THING SUCKS ASS, AND ISN'T REALLY USED FOR SUCH THINGS ANYWAY.

THE THING IS, WE REALLY HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING WHAT WAS ACTUALLY READY BEFORE 'OBLIVION' FINALLY LAUNCHED. THEY COULD'VE HAD A ROUGH DESIGN FOR THE 'FROSTCRAG SPIRE', IN ART/DESIGN, BUT NEVER DEVELOPED IT FURTHER; SAME GOES FOR THE NEW 'PIRATES HIDEOUT'. BUT, FOR EVERYTHING THAT'S PACKED INTO THE INITIAL CONTENT, IT WAS WELL WORTH THE $60-$70..........CERTAINLY MORE THAN ALOT OF GAMES WOULD BE/HAVE BEEN. PLUS, YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY THE EXTRA CONTENT ANYWAY, SO YOU ONLY HAVE YOURSELF TO BLAME IF YOU DON'T THINK IT'S WORTH $1.88, OR WHATEVER THE 150 PTS WORKS OUT TO BE. BUT, I DON'T DRINK, I DON'T SMOKE, AND I RARELY BUY A LOTTERY TICKET......SO I CAN AFFORD TO BLOW A FEW EXTRA $$ EVERY MONTH. I GUARANTEE YOU THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO BLOW HUNDREDS OF $$ EVERY MONTH ON ALL 3, AND YET COMPLAIN ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS AS BEING A RIP-OFF.

THEY'RE VERY RARE TO BUY, BUT ARE EASY TO FIND IN ALOT OF CAVES/RUINS.

USE THE CLONING CHEAT I POSTED NEAR THE TOP OF THIS PAGE, AND YOU'LL NEVER NEED MORE THAN ONE. ;)

No they aren't. All-Star, join the thieves guild. Every thieves guild fence has a stock of 100 that just keeps regenerating.

I just started playing this game, and it is seriously huge! One definitely gets their money's worth, and TWHIP is right, it is very cinematically beautiful with regard to the visuals and putting you right there in the game.

I'm playing it on my XBox 360, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. The only knock I have against it, is that it can't be played co-op with a friend next to you (Actually, not many of the XBox 360 games allow this now that I think of it).

Great game though. I highly recommend it. I also recommend the game guid that one can buy with it. It helps to keep track of things, and even with the game guide, the game is so huge!

I'm liking it so far, though world levelling is annoying me at this point, the game feels like it punishes me for levelling up, and the whole world focuses around me, the economy and everything. I still like it I just think there are better ways they could have done "world levelling".

I'm an Assasin with mark of the Thief, fear my sneak attack!

I'm playing this game like it's Thief 4. It's awesome. The best town to loot is Leyawin, or the one north (or south) of it.

The one with multi-level buildings.

Anyways, I've got a LOT of money from my Thief adventures.

I've got another character with 110 strength and 100 in blade skill. He's covered in ebony and he's awesome.

Same here. I love playing this Game & the new stuff on Live is awesome

Never mind

It seems this is not the big cave / dungeon that is supposed to be coming out. But it is still cool

So World levelling BLOWS, yet the game is still very much fun. Discuss.

PS: World levelling sucks, or at least how they have implemented it in Oblivion. The concept is gold, something is just off about it though, more in the morning.

I think world levelling is good. If the whole game was just you getting better armor without merchants being able to sell (and buy) more expensive stuff, the game would stop being fun around the tenth level or so.

Especially in the case of Oblivion, if I could go there and survive at level 2, then why would I have trouble at level 20, still fighting *ugh* Scamps and the like?

If Oblivion was like Morrowind in that the whole world didn't level with you. The main story probably wouldn't have you going into oblivion gates until you were of a proper level. Or it would be like Morrowind main quest where you do 3-4 missions then Martin of Jauffery pulls a Caius (the guy who is you main quest mission giver in Morrowind) and says "WTF your only level 3!1! Come back when your level 10 biatch, till then f**k off."

On another note between my brother and I we've goten 95% of the achievement points in Oblivion. I got all the points for the Main quest, the area, the Dark brotherhood, and most for the fighters guild. My brother got all the points for the Mages guild and the Thieves guild. Anyone else come close.

But I lost shadowmere (  ) some how. Outside of Sancar Tor. Argh!:down

Shadowmere is waiting for you at some fort to the west. Near a city. I lost her too, but she had all my stuff inside her so when I found her again I just knocked her out and took my sweet weapons back. :o

And yeah, I've got 100% achievements. I'm actually kind of disappointed in Oblivion because I didn't even break 100 hours of play yet. There really isn't that much to do after all the missions.

You mean where your given her in the first place? Well I'll do some checking then. She's the best horse.

As for mini-expansions I hope they put in Imperial Legions and Imperial cult quest lines, as in you can join them. I miss those from Morrowind. Well the legions anyway I never joined the Imperial cult. Although they could also put in a quest line where you become the new Count of Kvatch and rebuild it.
