Is it sad that Banks is now trying to save the film by pushing the female role model in action films narrative in the new marketing campaign?

Well Frozen 2 did exceptionally well with two female leads but it does lend itself to the "if you're part of Disney you're already a lock" theory.

Great, she's starring and directing another one :sigh:

Glad to know it wouldn't be linked to The Invisible Man.

I mean in her role as actor she didnt fail in the movie, as director its a bit of a different thing because you can argue that the movie failed mainly due to marketing mistakes and not because of the way she did her job.
So having her as director and actor in a different movie isnt really that weird, but you cant deny it looks less awesome after Charlies Angels failed.

Ghost girl power! Elizabeth Banks to direct and star in Invisible Woman

"According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, sources close to Banks' INVISIBLE WOMAN say the tone of the project is THELMA & LOUISE meets PSYCHO. Also, just for clarification purposes, the INVISIBLE WOMAN project has so far not been linked to Leigh Whannell's THE INVISIBLE MAN starring Elisabeth Moss."

In a perfect world, it will come out the same month as the MCU Fantastic Four, bomb horribly, and then she can say the MCU is after her. That would be kind of like Karma, wouldn't it?

She definitely showed some talent in spots, though I'm not entirely sure that action is her real strong suite. She did fine with the action, though. I do suspect that there were some issues in editing, as I feel as if Sony cut some of Sabina's stuff. Which may explain why Banks is acting a bit bitter.

The fact that so little of the discussion is about the actual movie should be telling. But then, the obsession with the credits was pretty prophetic of how discourse of this movie would go.

Oh come on. She’s allowed to have a bad movie and still be able to direct another one.

Seriously. How many second chances have Zack Snyder and Len Wiseman gotten? Why do female directors have to hit it out of the park every single time to be able to keep working?

the director of critical and boxoffice failure Lucy in the Sky got hired to direct Star Trek. :)

Holy sh—! I looked at the box office vs the budget. I’m surprised it was that high a budget to begin with.

It's nice to see a female director getting the chance to fail upwards like so many men do tbh.
While I do like this sentiment, I wish this would just stop in general.

People complain about directors they dislike repeatedly getting work all the time. Even when there's a very clear reason why the director keeps getting work. Like Michael Bay.

It's not a male/female issue at all really.

Yeah but he also did the critically acclaimed TV shows for multiple seasons. Banks did the mediocre Pitch Perfect 2 and Charlies Angels 2019.
A better example is Zack Snyder who, from 2009 to MoS, he never made a commercially successful film.

Let's be real about it, we're in a weird place when it comes to women right now. Either they're extreme feminist or they're a thot according to some dudes. That's a whole other topic, though it tends to seep into conversations for some reason. Banks is already getting labeled as the former on most social media.

Seriously. I know Hawley has done well with other things (I personally thought Fargo was only good in season 1 and then it went off the rails but I know most people like it). But he made a massive bomb, and while I’m not advocating that he be put in director jail, it also kind of floors me that they handed him the keys to a massive franchise after that.
