Elon Musk Buys X (formerly Twitter): Just Use Bluesky, Threads, or Mastodon Instead

Elon Musk says Twitter has 'no actual choice' about government censorship requests | CNN Business
Criticized for giving into governments’ censorship demands, Elon Musk on Sunday claimed that Twitter has “no actual choice” about complying those requests.

Daily Kos - With hate speech on the rise, Twitter may disappear in Europe
Since then, a BBC investigation has found the site increasingly overrun by Russian and Chinese propaganda accounts. Defense One reported how Twitter turned itself into a channel for propaganda after every data scientist working to keep out disinformation was fired. The Brookings Institute analyzed how hate speech has soared on the site with moderation reduced to an impotent shadow. The Poynter Institute has detailed how, even as the site has suppressed views of regular users, engagements with “misinformation superspreaders” was sharply up. That’s particularly true because, as AFP Fact Check notes, Musk continues to give his personal stamp of approval to conspiracy theories, lies, and outright hoaxes.
As Reuters reports, it just so happens that Musk is in China today, negotiating with the same government that creates that disinformation, for an expansion of his factories in that country. Musk, in addition to supporting massive growth of Russian state-authored propaganda on Twitter, has also offered a “peace plan” that would hand large parts of Ukraine over to Russia. A year before the invasion Musk announced that he was hoping to open a factory and establish dealerships in Russia.

I mean, it wasn't worth 42 billion when he bought it.

$15 billion is roughly $14.5 more than I thought it would be with Musk in charge.

And still falling while he's linked to it. Will be very interesting when a genuine competitor pops up.

Huh. When Matt Walsh is too transphobic for Elon...

I suspect there is something else at play, mainly money.

Reuters - Twitter's head of trust and safety says she has resigned

Axios - Elon Musk's Twitter loses another trust and safety head as Ella Irwin resigns

Twitter head of trust and safety Ella Irwin resigned Thursday evening, per multiple sources, after owner Elon Musk publicly rebuked his own staff over a content moderation decision.

Twitter staff had decided that a video titled "What is a Woman?" by the Daily Wire's Matt Walsh, a far-right personality who often attacks transgender people, violated the platform's hate-speech rules.
  • Twitter had recently announced a content deal with the Daily Wire.
  • When Daily Wire's Jeremy Boreing tweeted a complaint about the decision, saying that the video was barred because it included instances of misgendering, Musk replied: "This was a mistake by many people at Twitter."

Zoe Schaffer, Platformer: “I’m hearing that the Trust & Safety team has been told not to enforce Twitter’s ad policy unless the ad is a scam or illegal. This has caused a headache for T&S as it rolls back stricter enforcement rules and has prompted questions about what to do w/ads containing hate speech.”

The transphobic and antisemetic ones are okay. - Elon Musk.

Soon Elon will be the only employee working at Twitter and have no one else but himself to blame for when it inevitably all comes crashing down.

At least I would enjoy a Trump Musk war.
