Elon Musk Buys X (formerly Twitter): Just Use Bluesky, Threads, or Mastodon Instead

The Tesla fan boys are pissed and claiming it was faked.

Oh, so THAT'S why he's driving Twitter to the ground.

And now the search bar is completely gone if you are not logged in. Guess my days of limited twitter browsing is over.
Oh no, you'll have to miss out on what ever bigoted thing Bill Maher or crappy Star Trek/Wars fans have to say. I'm so sorry. :o

What is the Full Metal Alchemist up to these days?

Other than plastic surgery? Well, turns out he was encouraging his side piece to go after someone who spoke out against him. But then they found out they were the side piece, so, spilling all the details.

Twitter is now a walled garden apparently unless this is a glitch. But the fact they disabled non-accounts from just using the search a while back could suggest the former.

Completely shut out of the website without an account.

Can't browse anything.

Embeds still work on other websites...for now.

Considering the plan is to begin monetization, I don't think it works that well with a walled garden.

You can view Twitter (for now) using a third party website called nitter without having a Twitter account. It's not the best way but if you have to it's better than nothing.

other nitter servers:
nitter.it
nitter.privacydev.net
nitter.fly.dev

Edit: another non-nitter Twitter workaround website: sotwe.com, beware can be NSFW as it bypasses content filters as well.

The Verge - This is what Instagram’s upcoming Twitter competitor looks like (June 8, 2023)

Mashable - Twitter now blocks visitors from viewing tweets, and profiles unless they're logged in

The Verge - Twitter has started blocking unregistered users

It was either in a past Platformer or Business Insider article where it was detailed that Melon wants to limit Twitter to paid blue subscriber accounts only and internally there was pushback to that immediate plan. What's happening instead is slowly they are going in that direction instead of instantly.

Zdnet - Twitter seeing 'record user engagement'? The data tells a different story
A quarter of Twitter users said they 'are not very or not at all likely to be on Twitter a year from now.'
So far, Twitter's glide has amounted to an 18.7% traffic decline as of March 2023, according to the web analysis site Similarweb. True, Musk told the BBC that Twitter was seeing record user engagement and that major advertisers were returning. But as David F. Carr, Similarweb senior insights manager, said bluntly: "We're not seeing it."

Twitter is also inflating video views by counting every scroll by as a view, in addition to shoving video content people nobody sought out like anti-transgender videos into people's feeds (Melon's favorite).

I smell bull****.

He hates the idea of others trawling the site for data for free.

And, again, viewing if from a Twitter addict, he can't conceive others would just drop browsing twitter.

Yes he threatened to sue Microsoft for working off of Twitter ad data and has said he doesn't like rival AI's getting their advantage from scraping his platform, at least not for free.

The only time I have ever read twitter was when someone posted a link to it....so now, if I can't read the link because I am not a member of tweety, I will not have a damn thing to do with it anymore....and this does not bother me at all.

voxpopsicle (Mastodon): "Regarding #twitter going dark: every government agency that is relying on Twitter (or Facebook) as anything more than a read-only reflection of content available on their own site should stop, look around, and GT*O. Requiring your citizens to use a privately-owned third party website is a mistake, no matter how benign."

Before social media blew up there was RSS...and I still use it. There's still lots of great clients and websites out there to browse the aggregated news the way you want it.
