Ennis returning to the Punisher!!?

Most likely a goof up. Ennis is writing a new Nick Fury MAX book with Goran Parlov on art duties. The Punisher just happens to make an appearance in it.

Also, it's pretty damn cool that Ennis is writing The Shadow. One of my favorite characters. Should be good.

I really don't need to see Ennis on Punisher again. :o

I need to see him on a MAX version of Fury even less. I imagine there'll be a lot of hookers involved again. :o

I'd rather see Ennis try his hand at a different Marvel character.

Another Thor mini-series would be fun. Vikings was pretty solid.

I could stand to see him do some more, cause as good as Jason's Aaron's run was ? It never sold in big numbers, Ennis could bring the numbers in again.....

I don't see why it would be. It doesn't contradict anything, as far as I'm aware. I could be wrong, though; I haven't read it in years.

It was a MAX book and that stuff is usually considered outside of the 616. Hell, half of New York City's population was wiped out by the bad guys.

The Avengers did appear briefly on one page showing them retreating from a viking ass kicking and Dr. Strange was a big part of the series. It came out in 03, before Bendis got his grubby hands on the Avengers, so Vision and Wanda were there. Jaekelsson is still floating in space, somebody should bring him back.:yay:

I'm sure more people moved to New York to fill the gap. :oldrazz:

Jaekelsson would be a fun repeat villain. They'd have to tone him down a bit so Thor could actually fight him effectively, but come on, zombie viking warlord? What's not to love?

Yeah, Thor broke both his wrists when striking him with Mjolnir. Thor had to drink that potion Strange made from the blood of the 3 other warriors to boost his strength and defenses just in order to beat Jaekelsson. A definite powering down would be in order, other than that he's a sadistic bastard and they're fun villains.

The theme of a formerly devout worshiper turning around and trying to destroy his gods is pretty interesting, too.

Was that their purpose? I thought they were just cursed to sail the ocean forever and when the curse wore off after thousands of years, they happened to land in NYC and just wanted to kill again.

No, I think they f***ed with a witch or something and she cursed them. But I think they were viking pirate-types doing what they did in Thor's name or something like that. I don't know, like I said, I haven't read it in a while.

Yes, because I care so much about Punisher selling in the Top 40.

It was actually a village leader. He cursed them for destroying his village and then got an arrow through his heart for his troubles.

Yeah like this is a useful comment - perhaps others do? :whatever:

Anyway yeah I really liked Thor: vikings too was always one of my fav Thor stories - really organic feel to the curse pretty simple but very effective where the soul of the chap making the curse made it much stronger. Neat how they were cursed for a 1000 years...

If Greg Rucka can't bring big numbers to the Punisher, I don't see Garth Ennis doing it.

I think it would sell but it's a case of been there, done that. Marvel should put Ennis on Thor or Cap. I'm curious the see what he could do with a character like Captain America. Ennis knows a lot of s**t about Americana based on his Preacher series. The Avengery stuff can remain in Avengers, I would like to see Cap back out in the heartland as a symbol, working the hotline again and such.

lol Garth Ennis first wrote the Punisher when The Punisher had NO sales.

Back in 2000 Frank Castle did not even have an on going title, when Ennis wrote him, and the title was in the top ten, plus when Ennis wrote Punisher MAX the title sold between 30 to 40k

so yea I could see Ennis writing Frank again, Ennis has said The Punisher is the character he was born to write, his words.....

You're love of Ennis' excellent run is blinding you to the facts that the comic book industry has changed dramatically in the past decade. We are now in an industry where the only Marvel characters that can handle solo titles are Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Daredevil. We are now in an industry where no Marvel character can handle two titles.

The Punisher just doesn't sell anymore dude. No matter who writes him. Greg Rucka's Punisher is selling dramatically lower than Rick Remender's run (both of whom are great writers and deliver great Punisher stories). Six issues in and the current Punisher book is on the verge of entering cancellation territory. PunisherMAX got canned due to absurdly low sales, despite a great creative team (Steve Dillon one of Ennis' artists BTW).

You're right! I mean, it's only widely considered to be one of the best Punisher runs in history...who would want more of that???
