Mystery/Thriller Enola Holmes | Netflix

I'm a big Sherlock Holmes fan. Looks like this is more for kids. Hated how she talked to the camera.

I might watch at some point, but doesn't look great. I haven't been impressed by most of the recent Netflix films.

I think this looks like fun. And Holmes looking like a proper gentleman doesn't mean he isn't eccentric. It just means he takes care of himself. Being eccentric doesn't require looking like you just rolled out of bed.

I think people got used to The RDJ version of Holmes. Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett are closer to the Sherlock that I know.

I love RDJ but after that awful second film, I lost any interest in ever seeing more of that version of the character. I’d rather watch this than another episode of that.

And the most memorable Holmes portrayals have been RDJ, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jeremy Brett, hell even the mouse Basil of Bakerstreet all play up his eccentricities and coldness. Basil Rathbone, while not to their extreme, still had fun with oddball moments. He’s not Murdoch Mysteries.

No mention of Christopher Lee?

Or how about Christopher Plummer in Murder by Decree? I remember loving that movie when I saw it, though that was like 30 years ago haha. Probably should rewatch it. I also loved Nicholas Rowe in Young Sherlock Holmes.

Lee, of course, played Dracula many many times. But as far as I know, he only played Sherlock Holmes once. However, he was also in The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (as Mycroft Holmes) and the 1959 version of The Hound of the Baskervilles (as Sir Henry Baskerville) — with Peter Cushing as Holmes.

Reviews have been great so far. Currently a higher RT score than Tenet and Mulan. :funny:

The trailer didn't hook me, but I considering how much I do like Henry Cavill and Millie Bobby Brown as actors I might just give it a look sometime. Also, I'm down for almost anything Sherlock Holmes related and it feels like its been forever since we got anything worthwhile from this property.

I am just happy it seems to be reviewing well. I am sure it isn't anywhere near as big or ambitious as those two, but it's the kind of little movie I adore and I just really hope I do love it. With all the movie theater issues and stuff like that, this is probably one of if not the last movies coming out I am really looking forward to. God, this year started out with well over a dozen I was excited for, and they have all been pretty much shipped to next year, at some nebulous point in time. Hoping for the best, and less then a week now.

Yeah, exactly. As problematic as the Mulan movie is, it's still kind of a shame (IMO) that it had to be released online because it definitely looked like the type of film that should be viewed on the big screen. Likewise, I wanted to see Tenet on the big screen but I'm not risking my life for it. In contrast, this looks like a fun little movie that is perfectly fine for at-home viewing.

Netflix Masterpiece Theater Presents... :hehe:

Cavill was very fine, Milly too. Breaking the 4th wall was kind of annoying after a while though.

Yeah I have a feeling that 4th wall breaking is going to get on my nerves

Breaking the 4th wall is a tricky thing. Sometimes, like in the case of Fleabag or House of Cards, it really adds a fun element to a show or movie. Other times though it just gets annoying (can’t think of any immediate examples but I know there are some where it just didn’t work).

Yeah it works really well for Deadpool. But judging from the trailer, I had the feeling it would get annoying for this movie.

I had a really good time with this and honestly the 4th wall breaking never bothered me. Milly, Cavill and Claflin were all pretty great in this, especially Milly who makes a character who could have easily been really annoying very endearing. She just seemed so natural in the role throughout and that was a pleasant surprise considering how the trailers made her look pretty unlikable IMO.
