Mystery/Thriller Enola Holmes | Netflix

So it's a kids movie that pushes anachronistic female empowerment in a not-so-subtle way.

Not surprised it's an RT hit. :D:

Question is, why are y'all so 'hyped' to watch this?

A bit too info-dumping at the beginning and I’ll never be in tune with the fourth wall breaks (but perfect for the TikTok/Instagram generation) but it was a fun coming-of-age tale and adventure romp. Henry Cavill is good as a low key Sherlock Holmes but Millie Bobby Brown does a very good job as the title character.

My rating scale: :up:,,:down, :down, :down:down

Your reaction is... unsurprising.

I am pretty sure many, including myself, expressed why they were excited for this. Thankfully, I was not disappointed. But I also don't run at the sight of empowered women, so yeah.

I really like Henry here, but what got me is how giant he is. Every shot of him from any distance away points out how far his arms are a part, making them look tiny. :hehe:

Cavill did look huge in this and it was funny just how noticeable it was to me. Also, I have no problem with empowered female characters as long as I feel that its written well and I'm still able to enjoy the film which was fortunately the case here. It also helps that Millie was pretty likable in the role for the most part.

Probably watching this with my partner tonight. Haha, I'm surprised Henry's gargantuan frame is apparently so obvious in this. It looked like they were hiding it rather well in the trailers. I guess being a powerhouse can fit Sherlock; I know he's typically be described as a skinny guy but he's also an absolute badass.

God damnit, I watched too many clips on youtube, and now the algorithim is giving me the sexist and mysoginistic rants.

I watched this and had a blast. 9+/10 for me. Millie Bobby Brown was made for this role.I can't see anyone else pulling it off. Great production values and a catchy theme/score. It felt like a combination of Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes tv show from the 80's and 90's, the BBC show and the RDJ movie(without the crap parts). I've seen all those and I think they nailed Mycroft as the dull government man. Cavill's "young detective" didn't have all the known character traits yet but he's still young and there's no Watson yet either. Also goes everywhere without a hat for some reason.

There's video on Netflix's channel where MBB reads the opening scene from the books to match the film scene and it does seem very true to the book.

I really hope they make films of the other books too.

Wow...this movie was really boring. I kept looking at the clock for this one. I know I’m not intended audience for this but this was pretty bland. 3/10

While I didn’t think it was boring, the movie is far less of a mystery movie in comparison to its coming-of-age and adventure aspects. They’d have to improve upon that in a sequel.

Not the target audience here either and I thought that it was a rather a good vehicle for Millie Bobby Brown after Stranger Things.
It is not an awesome movie but she carried it with ease and was charming and funny.

erm... what was this?
Dora the explorer in victorian England?

Well it is the first book.

Speaking of which, sounds like the movie followed the book closely:

Watched this last night and it’s super fun. It feels a bit like it was going to be a tv series that was turned into a movie but oh well. Millie is an absolute star. I hope they make more

Yeah I watched this tonight and I really enjoyed it. Millie is fantastic in the lead role; really enjoyed her little asides to the camera. Cavill was charming as Sherlock and Claflin was uptight as Mycroft. I also like the young lord that Enola helps out. I’d gladly watch a sequel.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Deck Rickard. I honestly think this has a lot of potential as a new Netflix series, although I'd take a sequel in any shape or form. They could really flesh out these characters even more though and I'd love to see more Cavill as Sherlock Holmes in it even though I know the man has an insanely busy schedule.

I just really want to see what his Sherlock can do in hand to hand combat more than anything else considering how beastly and in shape Cavill looked to be in this.

I just can't get his Mission Impossible fights out of my head. And even if Tom Cruise is shorter than many Sherlock would still have to have a monster cast for him to fight as I wouldn't expect him to need any fancy martial art to surprise the Victorian toughs and hitmen.

This was fairly well done and I was pretty engaged at the start. The plotting gets pretty wonky and the storytelling loses itself a bit in the second act, and I think as a whole the movie could have been 20 minutes shorter, but overall I enjoyed it. I'd watch a sequel, especially if it introduces a Moriarty-esque counterpart.

Henry's Sherlock is built like he hasn't discovered drugs yet and lives for the gains.

Sam caflin is a really good antongonist in blackbird and peaky blinders. He has some of that snooty shouty jerk personality in this.

Burn gorman as the assassin was fine. We got the dark Knight rises villainous Gorman rather than game of thrones villainous Goodman.
