I have been thinking about this for awhile since the idea popped into my head about 2 months ago. So just wanted to express to you guys and gals regarding a possible ending in the 3rd film and see what you think.

Anyways after reading plenty of Dent/Two Face stories and scanning through the Dent/Eckhart thread from time to time I think a panel from ARKHAM ASYLUM can and should be used sometime in the 3rd film as a scene.....most likely toward the end. It's the scene where Batman is about to be killed by Joker and others in Arkham in the end. They can all take him....Batman knows it....Joker knows it. The decision on whether Batman lives or dies is put upon Harvey and his coin. The panel just shows Dent look down at the coin (without showing the coin) and say "he goes". Joker with a maniacal grin just laughs in astonishment and lets the result stand without looking at the coin. Batman walks out of Arkham and lives. I can see this scene in the 3rd film being done with the music that was used at the end of Begins during the rooftop scene in the background. Then it goes to back to Harvey looking down at the coin again and shows the scarred side up! Dent then smiles and closes his fist...then the epic music stops and the film ends. Now would that be a freakin great ending to the 3rd film or what? It gives me chills just thinking about that as a possible ending! What do you guys think.....and also give me what kind of ending you guys and gals would like to see in the 3rd and possible final Bat film directed by Nolan. Thanks! :batty:

That's cool and all, but what kind of closure does that scene offer to the trilogy as a whole?

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of an ending to the third film similar to that of Dark Victory. That really dealt with Bruce not being consumed by the 'Batman' monster, and allowing the light of Robin in, to be a surrogate father and give himself a positive legacy. As G-Money says, Dark Knight's ending may not bring closure to the (proposed) trilogy.

Yeah, I like that idea of Dent overcoming his monster. Kinda like that comic (the name escapes me at the moment) where Robin needs a cure thing, and Face,Joker and Penguin have it and Robin challenges dent to coin toss at Joker and Peng try to beat him to death. Robin wins, and Dent beats off Joker and Penguin and gives him the cure.

I don't like the idea of Joker jusut letting Bats go. Serious break in his character IMO.

Don't know if I'd want to see that. I mean, it doesn't surprise me Joker would like that, but I always thought Penguin liked the ladies. PG-13, not XXX.

I honestly wanted the trilogy to end with Bruce and Dick. No Robin (leave that for the next director, if there is one, to deal with), just Bruce and his surrogate son.

The impact of Bruce "becoming a father" is too great to pass up, for me. And too perfect for this series, specifically. Begins was literally all about Bruce and his father. I would love for some of those scenes to be paralleled between Bruce and Dick. It would be great semi-"closure" for the character.

A battle of wits, a shame you came unarmed. lol

j/p, that was a little obsure. But i got it after a second or too.

Dammit, another sig-worthy one. Too hard to choose.

But yeah, that would be a sweet ending, except that it gives no closure. If they were going to make a fourth one, that would be awesome. It could also work as climax of the story, as long as the denouement afterwards includes some closure aspects, etc. (For itsthebatman: the climax would be where he beats off Joker and Penguin. :D) You could have the whole movie about Harvey's descent into darkness and him end up teaming up with Joker to take down Bats and then at the end he overcomes his madness, and then maybe show him taking in Dick as a son at the end or something.

I just can't let a good opportunity for innuendo slip by me (as it were).

I defintely like the idea of the trilogy tracing Bruce going from good intentions to becoming darker in character and losing himself in Batman, losing a friend and ally in Harvey, and coming through on the other side by becoming father and mentor to Dick. it really would bring about a true sense of closure.

not too bad at it urself my friend. :wow: :cwink:

None really. In the middle of the 3rd film...Joker and Two Face take over Arkham and demand Batman to go to the Asylum alone or they will kill hostages. It would leave it open ended for the next director to take over from there IF Nolan decides to leave after directing three bat films.

I wouldn't mind it happening near the end of the third, but I wouldn't say it should be the actual end itself. There needs to be some sort of closure, and Joker just letting Batman go doesn't really cut it. i'm sure they'll think of something great though.

i do like the idea of setting it up for Robin. He adopts Dick, and at the end decides he'll train him. Then the next movie would take place years later when Robin is older, and just finishing his training.

I think it would be a cool scene, but, like Kasturo, not an ending.

I wouldn't mind seeing an ending like Dark Victory. Where Bruce has taken in Dick. And Dick makes a brief "unofficial" appearance as Robin, without training. Have the story surround Two-face taking out mob bosses and freaks. Have an opportunistic boss try to get ahead in the scuffle, Tony Zucco. Have a sub plot follow Zucco's racket business in the circus and its affect on the Graysons. After Two-face, Zucco, and the Joker are defeated with a LITTLE help by a "pre-Robin" have a rooftop meeting.

During the meeting have Gordon say, "I hear you're working with a young partner, I'd love to meet him."
Batman: I am, and you will.
Batman jumps off of GCPD headquarters' roof into the abyss as the screen cuts to black. Credits.

I'd like something like that to end the trilogy with. A sense of closure on this part of Batman's career, the loner part. With hope for the future with Batman and Robin, new villains and new stories if they are ever told.

That would be great, if only for Nolan's repeated stance on specificially not including Robin in his films. Of course, Raimi caved on Venom, so you never know...

I would think Gordon would try and lecture Batman and warn him of the dangers of bringing in someone to join his crusade.

i think at that part of the series Gotham woudl be safer because of batman and less corrupt so, Gordon would be reluctant to have him fight crime but, still trust Batman's judgement after everything he's done.

I think the main point to be taken from the original post is that the various comics contain cool "moments" like the Two-face one he mentions and that the film-makers really should mine the comics for as many cool moments as the can to cram in to the film. little character moments or cool action beats, whatever.

Like the "I can't see a thing without my glasses" from Gordon in Year One, which was in Aronofsky and Miller's script and would be great to see in a film.

Movie three should end with Dick moving into the mansion and Catwoman on the run. From here WB can make separate Robin or Catwoman based movies or trilogies.

Movie three should also end with entirely new criminals arriving on the scene, maybe have a rooftop meeting or crime-in-progress and then the title fades up before the credits, 'Gotham City' (Raybia's suggestion). That way the trilogy's ending recaps how Batman has irreparably changed Gotham.

I think after Nolan's trilogy, which will have NO Grayson or Robin, based upon his comments about the character ... maybe you can lure him back for a 4th film with Grayson/Robin with the surrogate father storyline. putting Bruce in a position to help a kid who goes through a similar loss of parents. I think that would be a great unique storyline (unless Singer kinda steals that with his stupid Superman's kid stuff) that may not fit witht he trilogy itself.

Why not just let him finish the trilogy then WB can start something *new* a few years later. The franchise will need a new direction by then. I really doubt Nolan would stay for a fourth movie, he'll wanna move on. And it's a bad idea.

Also his comments don't mean he can't change his mind, and 'no Robin' is different from saying 'no Dick Grayson'.

he only said it was too early for robin at this point in Batman's career.

well dude, if they want a 4th Batman movie thats how to end it ;)

I love this "change of tune" so to speak, within the Batfan community. The overall sentiment used to be an overwhelming "NO ROBIN". Now, it seems to have changed to a want for the boy wonder, or at least his alter ego Dick Grayson, in some capacity in the trilogy. I dig that.
