The Dark Knight The Ending Of Dark Knight

the ending was the best ending in movie history

for some reason with the cops chasing batman in the end, it reminded me of Mask of the Phantasm becuz ppl thought Batman was a killer in that movie and now in TDK, ppl think he's a killer so they hate him even more.

great ending

Anyone think the ending of Dark Knight could work really well to bring the Riddler into the story, the Riddler tries to find out what really happened with Harvey Dent, seeing it as the ultimate Riddle. Obviously the next movie will be about the redmeption of Batman, just wondering what type of villian could help in that story.

Oh, the ending is definitely a perfect set up for the Riddler. Whether it be to solve the riddle of Dent, or to sort of play Gotham's mistrust of Batman into being their new hero (sort of claiming he can find Batman as he is smarter than Batman). There is definitely room for the Riddler.

Again..Fox didn't leave...I'm starting to think people saw a different version of the film than I did

Bruce realized what he was losing in a great friend/mentor in Lucius, so he programmed it to self-destruct when he typed his name into the computer, letting Lucius stay since it was destroyed.

Not really. Riddler is way different than Joker in many ways. He's a narcissist. And all he wants is fame and money. So, he has a purpose unlike Joker. And as far as the way he acts...only if the person who plays him plays him like Heath ledger...which definitely wouldn't work for Riddler. (And Jim Carrey's performance wasn't really appropriate for Riddler either...however, I think he was going more for the 60's show with that one)

Which is why I am so in love with the idea of David Hyde Pierce as the Riddler. Can you get more of a polar opposite of Carrey (or even Ledger)? Smart, sophisticated, narcissitic, Hyde would be perfect.

Thats kind of a stretch.

It's too bad Anthony Michael Hall was cast as the news reporter. I always thought he'd make a perfect Riddler.

I dont know if this deserves its own thread but, What did you guys think of the ending of batman, It seems to me that The end left him as he was in the beggining of Of Batman Begins, Cops not trusting him and assuming hes the bad guy. How will this carry on to a trilogy, I mean Cops are supposed to like batman, not take him for a bad guy.
They are ripping off Spiderman!

Was anyone else turned off by the sonar technology? I mean I think it's a cool technology, but too advanced for this film. It's like Batman threw away his training and relied solely on it.

Of course the sonar ultimately failed, so perhaps that was a wake up call for Batman that advanced technology isn't always the best way to deal with crime.

There needs to be a third one so that we can see the new and improved Wayne Manor. :o

I guess there doesn't have to be a third one. I didn't think we would be seeing Gordon as Commissioner until the third one and that's not the case. I thought Two-Face may crossover into the 3rd film and be a villain there. But he is dead (Gordon reading the eulogy. You don't do this unless you bury the body). And the Joker was caught in the end.

But then again, it would be nice to see Batman "redeemed" in the public eye and have that Bat signal shine brightly at the end.

I think the 3rd is inevitable. The dark knight didn't do what we all expected (in the beginning before we knew anything about the story.) and it was still good. The third will do something that is unexpected. Also Nolan pulled off Ra's, an immortal character he could do Freeze I bet, but not yet. I think Nolan will make a story that the villains come out of instead of thinking of a villain then carving the story around that.

Think what the virals would be like if the riddler was behind them. OMG

Can You imagine what Nolan would do for the riddler. He would make the whole movie a riddle like memento.

Riddler is the villian I would love to see Nolan do. The Viral marketing would be fantastic.

Yea the ending was perfect, i love how the last words of the movie were
"The Dark Knight" pure genius, and also the last scene of tdk was the first scene of the first trailer we saw heh.(batman riding off on the bike)

Im guessing batman will run to the outskirts of gotham and thats were the new mansion/batcave will be located.

I guess Harvey Dent is dead but Two face lives? I dunno the ending to this movie was perfect but it didnt leave an obvious hint like batman begins of what the next movie could be about.

Of course the sonar ultimately failed, so perhaps that was a wake up call for Batman that advanced technology isn't always the best way to deal with crime.

and how exactly did the sonar fail?
The Sonar allowed them to monitor the entire city at once. While Batman probably could have found the joker at once, it didn't have the time to do so. Then when fighting, Batman still had to figure out himself how to stop the enemies, but it allowed him to set up things right on the spot by knowing where people were. The only failure was when the joker kept knocking his head against the ground. Of course it took a few seconds to boot back up.

Fox and Batman both knew it gave them too much power so self destruct at the end.

I was wondering what villian could possibly top this movie Riddler is all that rings through my mind but the movie wouldn't probably be as action packed. It'd probably be more along the lines of Batman Begins. Then again I'm no where near as intelligent as Chris Nolan.

I loved the ending. A part of me would like to see Two-Face return but the ending for this movie was perfect and closed up the story arc nicely.

I just liked how the ending scene was very awe-inspiring. Gordon summarized Batman's character perfectly, and seeing Batman ride off with the light glaring ahead and then cutting off abruptly to his words "The Dark Knight" was an effective and powerful way to end the movie.

I still say it is the height of stupidity to make another movie after this. WB PLEASE END ON A HIGH NOTE!

I feel that there's definitely more stories to tell. This probably won't be the last of the series. I have complete trust in Nolan - if he does another movie, it will be amazing. If not, then it is because he felt he couldn't give a worthy sequel.

I feel this way but I would still love to see another one. In my heart though this will more then likely always be my favorite.

Oh. I like that. I never even thought too much about how well he did with Memento, been following the discussion about who would play the Riddler..rather than Nolan's treatment of it.

I heard the conspiracy theories earlier, like he's alive, locked up in Arkham.. perhaps got a reconstruction surgery? Who knows!
Anyway.. I loved the ending too. Bit of light, over all this darkness..

I think this would be the only plausible way to bring back Harvey. They have the closed casket funeral, preserving his good name as a ploy etc, etc...

But secretly....

He's still alive and locked up at Arkham. They realize it would be more damaging to Gotham if he were found alive, disfigured, and a killer. By having him "die," we're left with a sense of a fallen hero.

this ending was perfect. had suit to the whole movie. it would have been terrible, if we had a ending with batman flying over the roofs of the city. it just shows you that Batman is not a hero.

Oh man, the ending was absolutely amazing. The twists and turns in the movie just kept going on and on until the end, and it was just perfect. The morality play all throughout the movie kept you glued to your seat, and the consequence and the effect the Joker had on Gotham in its entirety proved that even if he was caught in the end, he still succeeded in his plan. He was able to rid Gotham of both heroes, and it will be interesting to see how the third installment plays out!
