The Dark Knight The Ending Of Dark Knight

I actually think that they will be more batman. I know Nolan wants to make a 3rd. I bet they will make it by 2011 or 12. This one will clean everthing up and batman retires. After that they will most likey wait ten years and make a forth like The Dark Knight Returns.

I loved the ending. I also like how they put the Title of the film at the end ( just like with BB ). Almost as if the title of each film represents the "goal" or "outcome" of each film.

Like in BB, at the end, Batman's war on crime was just "beginning".....so "Batman Begins"

And in TDK, at the end, Batman becomes "The Dark Knight"

the only question is.......what villains could possible carry the 3rd film and fit into Nolan's "realistic" world?

Riddler and Catwoman. Nolan can get real creative with the Riddler and Batman now needs a new love interest, perfect time for Catwoman.

I loved the ending and I understand the message, but I just don't understand why it didn't go something like this:

Batman: I killed those people. Gotham needs to keep its faith in Harvey.
Gordon: Batman, we don't need to pin this all on you...
Batman: I'm whatever the city needs.
Gordon: No, I'm serious. Remember that murdering clown you just left hanging from a building? Let's just say he did it. It's not like anyone will believe him if he says otherwise.
Batman: ...okay. But first, chase me!

Batman runs off into the night. Cut to black.

The self-sacrifice will be lost. And Batman will never let others falsely accuse somebody no matter how evil that somebody is. He can do it to himself, but he won't do it to someone else. It's unheroic. I really like the Nolan version of Batman, very heroic.

wouldn't the Riddler be too similar to this Joker???

Plus people need to think Batman will kill, people need to think he "broke his one rule"

I'm one of thos 1,2,3.....oh now I get it kind of guys. I just realized. Dent is the white knight. Than at the end gordon calls him The Dark Knight! man I'm slow lol only took seing it 6 times.

just bring Bane, and hint at Joker. Mr. Nolan can do it. and that ending had me crying the first time i saw it! you can't change that!

Bane: BOMB!!! BOMB!!! BOMB!!!

sorry couldn't resist....lol.

ironically......last night I caught Batman and Robin ( and Batgirl!! ) on TV. For ummm....."experimental" purposes, I decided to force myself to watch parts of it again.

and yes.....it's still crap.

fortunately......I had TDK to wash out the the bad taste B + R left in my mouth.....lol.

It was honestly the best ending of any movie, I realize many might not agree on that. But I've watched plently of movie, from blockbusters to classics, and not a one of those has given me the chills I felt when I saw the ending(twice, I might add) of TDK.

i really liked the ending. It really seemed like something Batman would do. If there isn't a sequel, I think that its a great ending for the series. I'm definetly hoping for another movie though.

The ending was great. Definitely moving and dramatic. It was a great way to close off the movie and also the series should WB/Nolan & co. decide not to come back for another round.

He's alive. That's my official stance until I hear differently from the horse's mouth or from the jockey's mouth.
I heard the conspiracy theories earlier, like he's alive, locked up in Arkham.. perhaps got a reconstruction surgery? Who knows!
Anyway.. I loved the ending too. Bit of light, over all this darkness..

The ending was absolutely perfect. I ****ing loved it.

The ending was great.

It was sad on 2 points. Batman was being chased & hunted down like a dog. And it sad because it was Ledger's last movie.

As for whats next? I have the slightest clue. I'm still numb from this movie because this is the best comic book movie EVER OF ALL TIME!

Batman rushing away shot was just heart-rending.

I loved it.

Correct on all accounts. To me, this ending was what made the movie for me, the fact that he made the ultimate sacrifice, in theory, becoming to the public the exact thing he never wanted to be, a killer, just for the sake of the man he believed could really change Gotham.

If (and it is indeed an if) Harvey is still alive, a nice thing they could do is something Frank Miller touched on in TDKR, and have Bruce help Harvey get plastic surgery to fix his face, thinking this will allow him to return to his public duties, while it actually just makes him completely crazy with no morals left at all....

a silent guardian, a dark knight

perfect ending to a perfect film

I saw the movie last night, and I didn't see what happened to the Joker. Everything happened so quickly. The last thing I remember is seeing Joker hanging by the cable on his leg. Did something happen to the cable or is Joker somehow miraculouslly still alive?

I find it hard to believe that he's still alive because finding an actor to fill Ledger's shoes is too much of a tall order to fill. If I remember correctly, Nolan said he made no changes to the movie or editing even after Ledger died.

Nolan could close his trilogy by bringing back Ra's, for an ultimate chess match with the dark knight, alot of lines from both BB and DK tie in together. My thoughts for Harvey, he can be brought back as an agent of Chaos by Ra’s al Ghul. The 3rd installment could introduce Talia, the Return of Ra’s, the Lazarus Pit, which could resurrect Harvey, side effects from the Pit include increased strength and temporary insanity, too which Harvey could look normal again maybe with the two tone hair(half shocking white) also the insanity could cause him to disfigure his face again. The pits are only used once for a resurrection so he’d have to avoid falls from now on! The whole third movie could be a gangster driven film, pull in Killer Croc for a new villain. Have Batman question his one rule, the Joker would be great as well, but the Ledger dilemma would have to be answered.

I was a little surprised at first, but then I grew to love it as I thought about it more and more.

Anyone think the ending of Dark Knight could work really well to bring the Riddler into the story, the Riddler tries to find out what really happened with Harvey Dent, seeing it as the ultimate Riddle. Obviously the next movie will be about the redmeption of Batman, just wondering what type of villian could help in that story.

No, I don't want to see The Riddler for the third film, as a matter of fact, I don't want to see any villain in the third film.

I personally think Harvey is still alive. If he died wouldn't that make Batman a killer?

wouldn't the Riddler be too similar to this Joker???

Not really. Riddler is way different than Joker in many ways. He's a narcissist. And all he wants is fame and money. So, he has a purpose unlike Joker. And as far as the way he acts...only if the person who plays him plays him like Heath ledger...which definitely wouldn't work for Riddler. (And Jim Carrey's performance wasn't really appropriate for Riddler either...however, I think he was going more for the 60's show with that one)
