The Dark Knight Eric Roberts is Maroni!

Not a bad casting choice at all. I never thought it'd be him, but I'm not disappointed.

Its an interesting choice. He played a similar mobster type role in the specialist and can definitely play the sadist well. I'm fine with it.

ah..the hated brother of Julia Roberts

The guy is freak, and not a very good actor he has been in a slew of really bad sub par movies IMO

but perhaps Nolan can pull sumthin good out of him, as long as he doesn't try to hard he comes off as almost beleivable as a villain some times

Heroes is not that great a show IMO...I do not really like it

He's a great actor and this role is no stranger to him having played many TV Mafia roles in the 90's. I will always remember him from 'The Last Mafia Marriage". Im with the others that many actors including Alisters do have bad films on their resumes. Even our beloved Batman actors can relate to that.

Roberts as Maroni is alright by me. The guy is a fairly decent actor, and under Nolan's direction, I'm sure he'll be just fine. No worries here.

Eric Roberts is one of the best character actors in Hollywood. He'll take care of business.

Yes. He's perfectly cast. I think he'll be a revelation to a lot of people. Nolan will have learned his lesson from casting the woeful Katie Holmes (Maggie Gyllenhaal is another master stroke: a fabulous actor)

"Well, it looks like Roberts will get the last laugh. Not only is he winning accolades for playing the up-to-no-good Thompson on the hit show "Heroes," but the 51-year-old actor also just landed a role in next year's "Batman Begins" sequel, titled "The Dark Knight."

Sure, Roberts is still largely typecast as a bad guy. But, c'mon, this is a Batman bad guy.
In the film, Roberts will play Mafia kingpin Sal Maroni. Landing the role is a blockbuster coup for Roberts, who was reportedly hand-picked by director Christopher Nolan over rumored candidates James Gandolfini and Bob Hoskins."

"Post: How did you land the "Batman" role?
ER: The "Dark Knight" audition was sans script. They gave me just the scene, a page and a half of ma terial. It was so hard to figure out how to make another mob guy interesting. I never know whether to be "New York" with Mafia guys . . . and how much "New York" . . . just a touch or a lot? I went into the room to audition, and when I came back out, I learned Anna Nicole Smith had died. It was that long ago, and I only found out I had the part a couple of weeks ago."

I´m pretty sure there is already a thread for this

I would have put it under another thread, but it's taking about several minutes for every page on the boards to load up. Trying to navigate here is becoming painfully slow. Is anyone else having this problem?

And if there is another Maroni thread, feel free to merge this one into it.

YES.:cmad:

I didn't think I was the only one having that problem! I f****** hate when it does that when i'm waiting to read some really interesting news!

We all knew it. Just waiting for confirmation really.

I hope he beefs up a little for it. I want him looking a little like Tim Sale Maroni.

i think eric roberts is a very good choice intimidating mafia type, he dont have to look like maroni to pull it off, look at tom wilkingson as falcone, falcone was bigger and had a tash and wilkingson still played him great.

He'd could use this job since he was just killed on Heroes tonight.

Thank God I'm not the only one. :cmad: :cmad: :cmad:

It makes you wonder if the will tell a story of how Sal came to power.

Salvatore Maroni grew up in the privileged Maroni crime family, headed by his father Luigi "Big Lou" Maroni. In The Long Halloween, Maroni is mobster Carmine Falcone's biggest rival, and both believe that serial killer Holiday (who killed mobsters on holidays) is working for the other (although they also think that Harvey Dent has something to do with the killer). When his father is killed, Maroni makes a deal with Dent to reveal all of Falcone's criminal activities, in exchange for leniency.

However, Maroni really plots to scar Dent as revenge for his father's death. Dent's assistant, Vernon Field, provides him prior to court with "stomach medicine" for a supposed ulcer. During the trial, Maroni throws acid into Dent's face, disfiguring him and permanently changing him into Two-Face after escaping from hospital. Maroni takes two shots to the chest by the baliff after getting into a tussle following the scarring, but he survives.

When he is moved out of his cell, Maroni was finally killed by Holiday, who is revealed to be Alberto Falcone, the late crime boss' son who acted out against the family for wanting to make a name for himself.
