Escape from New York (Remake)

If you "HAD" to recast Plisskin...do you like the choice of Gerard Butler???

  • Yes I like him...not sure if he's my top choice but...I like it! :)

  • No he's not right for the role at all. :(

  • Not bad but...I'm not sure yet...need to give it more time.

actually the reason he looks like he has a "slender" and "feminine" waist in those pix is because he's sagging which gives the ILLUSION that his body is longer than it really is. if he were wearing proper fitting clothes then his body wouldn't look so skinny. example...

no offense, but what country are you from if you think that's "slender" and "feminine"?

The USA bud and I don't think Snake Plisskin having an hour glass figure is good. Gerard is solid and he also has the look and the personality. That's just an opinion though.

Wait, he went from slim and feminine to an hour glass figure ? that makes no
sense as the body types are not the same:huh: Also in no roles has Butler displayed any of the personality of Snake and he looks nothing like Russel in build, Holloway is closer in build to Russel and much closer in personality (acting wise) to snake.

You never saw a slim girl with an hourglass figure? Regarding Snake...you mean that Butler has not displayed any of the personality of Kurt Russell. I don't want Butler to copy Snake from head to toe in and out. I want Butler to give us "HIS" take on Snake. Keep hair and eyepatch, and the rebel attitude but I want to see it Butler's spin on it. If Gerard cant' make Snake his own...he's wasting his time.

By that logic, if he can't equal or do better than Kurt Russell in his own take on the role, then Butler is wasting his time. All I can say is that the odds are against him.

Does anyone else think that remaking this movie is a bad idea? The social context today is completely different from when the original was made, so it's going to seem a lot more outlandish and less provocative than when it came out. New York City really was hell on earth back in the day, so a movie like this was more meaningful back then.

Yes, Yes, YES!!! The original was a statement of it's time, not just a cult action movie. It meant something. It meant something more than a vehicle for an actor who's become recently popular for screaming in a leather speedo.

i dont think gerald butler should do the part I think sawyer from the t.v series Lost should play the part. He acts smart, has additude and is alot like snake pliscin from the original

Have you noticed Bush and his witch hunt for terrorists? I think this film will hold ground with a lot of the politics going on look at out corrupt president and the people he surrounds with him.
Remember the second escape, ultra religious dictator president?

Hunter you must have missed this post, direct comparison of the two. Holloway is obviously more built, the only thing I will give you here is his shoulders are sloutched a bit, but that can be fixed. Gerard was built for 300 but he was going through "Spartan" training of over 5hrs a day working out and beating the hell out of himself to get that built, I highly doubt the people making escape are going to pay to have him do that again when he is going to be fully clothed throughout the movie.

^ You're crazy dude. Gerard was in better shape for 300 sure...but he's been a big guy sine long before 300. He's a much larger presence than Holloway. LOL It's not even close.

Preaching to the choir my friend, i was meaning built as in jacked ala Butler in 300.

No he isn't, he played a shouty, jacked up pro wrestler in a leather thong, that's hardly presence, i get that you have made this your new thing so Butler is your guy but Holloway has shown he can actually play a role that fits perfectly with the snake mould, Butler hasn't.

No one is saying Butler WON'T do a good job , we are just saying there is a guy with undeniably closer prerequisites for the character.

Screen presence sure, Holloway hasn't done anything big movie wise, but it's 300 that has put Butler on the map. As for physical appearance there's two pictures very similar of both actors how they naturally are and holloway is easily in better shape, he's toned.

Ill let you keep believing the sky is purple, to the rest of us its blue. Show me a pic outside of 300 where Gerard is toned and has more muscle mass than Holloway and Ill say the sky is purple too

**EDIT**

Advanced is right Butler is physicall bigger too
Butler - 6'2''
Holloway 6'1.5''

A whole half inch taller here are my sources

I agree with Midnhtsun the terrorism of today and the paranoia that the bush administration have on his country is a good opportunity to do a remake. Although since I know the story I would rather see a sequel ''Escape from the States'' With a cameo appearance of Kurt Russell! :yay:

my cast for the remake:

Isaac Hayes ''The Duke of New York''

I'm talking weight. Being tall doesn't make one fit. I'm sorry but my opinion remains unchanged. Yeah Holloway has a face similar to Kurt's...so what. He's skinny and feminine from the neck down. He's not a force to be reckoned with. He doesn't look intimindating except in photo poses. Gerard looks like a bad ass when he needs to be and his physical presence is much much stronger. That's why he got the role.

Why are we even arguing about this...Gerard got the job. Holloway did not. I'm done with this but you guys can keep arguing about who is better fit. Obviously the people that matter chose Butler.

Kirsten Dunst? Adrienne Barbeau's rack deserves to be put into the Smithsonian. You can't compare her to Dunst.

I'm sorry but my opinion remains unchanged.

unfortunately, for you, it's an opinion of ignorance. we've already explained and shown to you how Josh Holloway's physique is nowhere near as slender or feminine as you make it out to be yet you keep pushing the argument with baseless statements and assumptions. it's fine if you WANT to think Josh Holloway has a skinny/feminine body but you should probably look at pre-300 Gerard Butler before you continue pushing that opinion.

this shows how much work and effort he had to put into making himself look as uber buff as he was.....and your argument that Holloway slender doesn't matter since he could do the same workouts that Gerard Butler did for 300 and get a similar physique.

i'm not gonna argue that the producers saw potential in Gerard Butler...it's obvious since he was cast in the role, but you're also ignoring that fact that Butler practically became a high profile movie star over night while Josh Holloway is still a tv star. of course they're going to take a movie star over a tv star...but that doesn't necessarily mean he's the better man for the role.

He's a big guy bud. Even in that pic there's just nothing he's standing or sitting next to. You know that and I know that. This is a pic from Tomb Raider. He just has a big frame and not a slender feminine frame like Holloway. Stand them side by side in person and Holloway would look like his sister.

gerardbutlerinterview_435.jpg

Also just because he was bigger than usual in 300 and he trained...doesn't mean he suddenly shrinks down to half his size nor does it mean he's not gonna train hard for EFNY.

[YT]ZA6lVRX9_nk[/YT]

In any event Holloway is not in this film. So live with it.

wow, i hope you know how clear you've shown that you're heavily biased towards Gerard Butler. it shows when you keep claiming Holloway is slender and feminine.

aw, the "so live with it" line. just so you know, i accepted it the day Gerard Butler was announced to play Snake long before Wiseman was even in talks. i don't have delusions of grandeur. i know Gerard is a lock unless something crazy happens...but that doesn't mean we can't discuss other actors or directors. people did it all the time in the Transformers board.

oh btw, if you're saying Holloway has a slender/feminine figure you might as well say Kurt Russel and Snake Plissken have slender/feminine figures as well...

Really? You keep saying Josh Holloway though. :o

Keep her the **** away from this movie.:cmad:

And rejoice.:woot:

I'm gonna say the same thing I say in the Catwoman thread when people suggest ****ty choices.
Just because they have the body, does not mean they are right for the character.
Now keep this K-Fed looking ass out of this damn movie.
Thank you.:o
