Escape from New York (Remake)

If you "HAD" to recast Plisskin...do you like the choice of Gerard Butler???

  • Yes I like him...not sure if he's my top choice but...I like it! :)

  • No he's not right for the role at all. :(

  • Not bad but...I'm not sure yet...need to give it more time.

I agree that it's a classic but once the film rights fall into another company's hands, the term classic means nothing to them. It's just another product to be bought and sold. The fanboys don't mean jack to them.

It's a profitable venture and if they disrespect us, they disrespect us fans. It's happening, whether we like it or not.

It's sadly not like the producers of the Robocop remake realizing that it had been too early to remake a movie, that was barely twenty years old.

But our opinions and outcries amount to nothing to a studio. So it comes down to one thing: Accept the remake. Hate or love it. Because it's getting made. (As much as I myself don't like the fact but the business end is the business end.)

I don't see much potential for profit considering that Snake Plissken and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK was always a cult kind of character. I don't see franchise potential in this character.

I won't accept it and I hope it dies in production like REVENGE OF THE NERDS. Which did happen.

Then welcome to the business world because our opinions amount to absolutely nothing. If the movie bombs it's their own fault, but there will be people going to see one way or another.

I don't personally count on it being a hit, but it's not my movie. The studio makes it, makes it and THEY choose what happens.

Comparing it to THE REVENGE OF THE NERDS failed remake, while a decent example, isn't even in the same genre, but nice one, no less.

I'm simply saying, like the REVENGE OF THE NERDS remake died during production, I hope this one does as well.

Personally I wish Kurt and Carpenter would come back and do something with the series instead of this one.

They did that and we got ESCAPE FROM LA. So I don't want that either.

I thought the idea of an anime movie featuring the voice of Russell and Carpenter overseeing the production (which was being worked on by PRODUCTION I.G. I believe) was cool. But it died.

Carpenter's best days are behind him as a director.

As did the game, that was suppose to be produced. The only thing that even survived was the comic book series that picked up after ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and that was all miss.

Len Wiseman as director? if he can do rate-R and tone down the super-humanity of his heroes then that'd be great!

i was referring to the heroes in Len Wiseman's films. they have unlimited blood, ammo, and energy...hehe

That's an understatement.

GHOST OF MARS has to be his worst. His early days will always be the stand outs.

His best films in my order:

1) The Thing
2) Escape from NY
3) Big Trouble in Little China
4) Halloween
5) They Live (yeah the ending sucked but so what)
6) Prince of Darkness

Now, those were the good ole days.

I'd put ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 on my list since it was in part the inspiration for Snake and I do agree with you on the rest of those.

I hate to admit it but I liked ESCAPE FROM L.A. back when it first came out. About the only reason I watch it now is just to watch that ending. I love how Snake completely screws the world.

I enjoyed the commentary that the original had for the time it was set in. The remake was great for what it was. For some reason I just love Carpenter's approach to things.

Both FOG's were misses.

Carpenter was just so involved in his films from top to bottom. HE was nobodies tool at the time.

So true and now, he's almost vanished and pretty much writing, producing and directing movies that aren't worth the time.

I went into GHOST OF MARS hoping it would be better than it was, but the only thing memorable about it was Jason Stratham.

After DH4 i have no problem with Len taking the reins of this film, he is proving himself to have a great eye while filming action, butler will do well in the role, but he is no Kurt russel.

I would think there were worse people who could be starring and directing this, i think we should be happy with whom we are getting.

Apparently not memorable enough to get his name right.

I'm not happy with it.

Live Free or Die Hard at least had Bruce Willis.

DIE HARD is different from ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.

I agree, but i will at least wait until wee see something, butler was Fantastic in 300, i can wait to see what he delivers.

if len wiseman directs this....this movie has already failed.

Len wiseman is so far the only thing that i like about this, Butler is ok but i don't see him as Snake.
