Escape from New York (Remake)

If you "HAD" to recast Plisskin...do you like the choice of Gerard Butler???

  • Yes I like him...not sure if he's my top choice but...I like it! :)

  • No he's not right for the role at all. :(

  • Not bad but...I'm not sure yet...need to give it more time.

I think Olyphant could do it, Snake wasnt a ripped character or anything, he was just cool, and I think Tim could pull it off, but lets see who gets cast, it may turn out interesting.

Timothy Olyphant a Candidate for Ass-Kickin' Snake Plissken?

Off of his quasi-successful release of The Crazies, director Breck Eisner is working hard at bringing the long-gestured Escape From New York remake to theaters. But before he can do that, he'll need to cast the new Snake Plissken. In an interview with Movieweb he reveals that Crazies star Timothy Olyphant is a possible candidate to strap on the patch and kick some ass. In my humble opinion, I think he is the perfect casting choice (who the hell thought Gerard Butler was a good idea?). You can read more about it inside.

"Creatively, he [Timothy Olyphant] would be great for it," Eisner tells Movieweb. "We have not yet discussed internally within the studio who will play Snake Plissken. There are many factors that go into those discussions. First and foremost, obviously, is the creative one. We can't make the movie unless we get the perfect Snake Plissken, and that's a tall order. There are very few guys that could do it. He would definitely be one of the guys who could. There is no question about that."

John Carpenter's original (1981) followed antihero Snake Plissken (played by Kurt Russell) as he tries to save the President in gang-ruled Manhattan. The new spin follows along the lines of the original in which Snake Plissken -- an iconic soldier-turned-criminal -- is given 24 hours to find the President following the crash of Air Force One.

What are your guy's thoughts?

Looks like it might be true, but that again just wonders on how long his role in I am number 4 will take to shoot and then this, whenever they shoot it and then go back to filming his show.

It will be interesting if he gets the role. Of the movies i've seen him in, none of those characters are anything like Snake really. Will be a different kind of role for him.

I think Olyphant is pretty good in The Perfect Getaway, he had that likeable bad ass vibe about him that I would assume would be an important trait to have if you're playing Snake.

NOOOOOOO!!!! Olyphant is not a believable "badass"........has anyone seen Hitman???

right (no offense) but i did. Hitman is supposed to be the likes of Jason Statham but Olyphant had none of that in the movie. he simply doesn't have the look of a badass. i havent seen him in much but if Hitman is anything to go off of, he doesn't have the swagger either.

if they're serious about recasting Snake they should look for people like Josh Brolin.

he was alright in Punisher, but again...he doesn't have the swag of a badass. some guys have it, some don't.

I'm still stunned that there is even the very idea of remaking such a classic....

I'm actually eager to see how they do it. I don't know about any of you, but I'm looking forward to seeing the new quarantined part of New York and what that will look like.

well it's a cult classic that doesn't stand the test of time very well. i honestly can't blame them for wanting to redo it because for a while i've been wondering myself what an updated Escape from New York would be like. i just hope they don't pull a "Clash of the Titans" *knocks on wood*

I definitely want to see what the film will look like. But Kurt Russell will always be Snake Plissken to me! Hope Kurt gets to have some kind of cameo or something. I wonder how sci-fi the film will look.

It shouldn't be too much. I don't want to see Kurt Russel right before my eyes. It will take me out of the movie. Maybe literally a cameo, with you know, someone you see in the background which is what a cameo used to be.

I concur either Thomas Jane or Josh Holloway would be a good choice..What happened to Gerard Butler as Snake?

This is one of the few remakes that is approve by the original filmmaker. John Carpenter himself has contract that says you must do this and not do that.

That's pretty much the only thing I'm looking forward too, the technical aspects I mean. Other than that I'm pretty sure it's going to end up mediocre.

Not bad but I would prefer if he got some more serious roles so he doesn't risk the chance of losing steam by becoming an "action" star.
