Let's say you are in Peter Parker's position....

You're grandmother is in the hospital. She is dying. It is very tragic and sad. But you are also happily married to the love of your life. Would you give up the love of your life to give your grandmother a few more years and dissolve your marriage as if you never met....

or would you let your grandmother pass on?

What would you do?

Wow... can I have those advanced copies of parts 2, 3 & 4 of OMD?

It's not his grandmother...it's his Aunt.

Not his Grandma:whatever: And also we don't know what the hell MJ's part is in the story so...

Where is the poll?

I won't sacrifice my love life!!! :D

I think a more concise version of the question posed in this thread would be to replace the 'grandmother' option with 'mother'. Peter effectively had no mother, Aunt May filled that role in his life.

In real life, No, i would not save my aunt, my mom, my grandma, etc...if it did indeed would cause me to lose my wife and marriage.

It is a silly question.

Sadly, everyone has to die sometime.

EXACTLY. This changes the question in a major way.

People tend to do the most insane things when it comes to the woman who brought you up.

Also, the situation for Peter seems to be a major factor.

He pretty much thinks it's his fault, because he chose to be Spider-Man, and it led to this.

And sadly, it kind of IS his fault. He bloody well decided to unmask himself like that. True, May insisted on it, but obviously it was his choice in the end.

He also is pretty much responsible for the death of the guy that filled in on the role of his father... AND he lost his parents before he can even remember, It's pretty much textbook psychology that when people lose their parents before knowing them , they feel responsible for it, regardless of the situation.

All of these facts heavily change the perspective of the decision

He feels responsible for various deaths of his loved ones, and he doesn't want this to happen this time to May

Which IMO is fair enough really. I'd preobably be osing the plot in his situation.

Also, where the hell is the poll?

Yeah at this stage if MJ does propose that she would annul their marriage for the sake of saving May, (if some magical time rewind requires this, that is) I could see Peter excepting because of how guilty he must feel.

Logistics such as the fact that May might only live another year, while MJ is his future would mean little. Peter feels there is too much blood on his hands already due to his life as Spider-Man, if Aunt May- the woman who raised him were to follow, that would be too much.

For this reason I think it's safe to assume May will pull through this time. If it is at the cost of the marriage however, I reckon a lot of the hardcore readers (which must make up a significant portion of the readership) will abandon the title. Will I do that? who knows,.. but I am vehemently against the idea of them separating. As I have previously explained- it would only be another short term pointless development.

Okay I forgot to actually make a poll sorry.

I CHOSE GRANDMOTHER BECAUSE...most people associate that person closer than their aunt's. And while May also figured in as a mother I wanted to make it clear that this person would be in HER 80S and not exactly going to be shuffling on this mortal coil for much longer.

Hence the poll question. Grandmother implies maternal figure that will not live for the entirety of one's life (in most cases).
