Comics OMD/Clone Saga/Joey Q. discussion.

OMD was a big fat "MISS"... , but BND has been a "HIT" with me.

And that is something that I think all Spider-Man fans can agree on, regardless of which side of the fence that they stand on (StyleShift and myself). Nothing disappoints me more than seeing Spider-Man ask the devil for help. But I also agree that the end result has been pretty good thus far.

Except he didn't ask the devil for help.

Your right...He seeked help from the Marvel universe's equivalent of the devil....big difference :whatever:.

That's not what I was talking about.

Peter didn't actively go and seek out the devil so he could ask him for help. Mephisto came to him, and offered a deal, not the other way around.

meh....Give or take.
that doesn't really change what happen. nor make it look better...he still ended up dealing with the devil...and thats enough to piss off any fan. pro bnd or pro marriage.

as for me? i don't care....just wish that the marriage got a better send off.
one that was more logical.

Joey Q. gets a big rap but he really does love the characters. if you've seen him talk about them the dude looks like willy wonka. however forcing a situations for years was REALLY crappy on his part...

I know Mephisto came to Peter (in the form of his and MJ's unborn child, at that), but Peter and MJ (more MJ) did agree to it. They did not seek him out but they did take the offer. That is more or less asking for his help. I am not trying to play at semantics, but the idea is the same. Spider-Man made a deal with the devil. And I don't think anyone would have expected that.

In the end evil prevailed. Love or hate the new approach it doesn't matter....
After OMD Mephisto stuck it to Spidey and it's a LASTING repercussion....

I think amongst all of us Spidey fans...thats the part that really sucks.... :(

And that's one of the reasons for me i do not like BND, because it is a story of evil prevailing. The foundations for it all, is just that.

But it's not the first time that evil prevails in the Marvel Universe... sometimes, life can just go that way.

:csad:

Indeed. :csad:

After sitting through spidey's origin being altered to his unmasking. there are alot of arcs that really sucked back to back...

The marriage was the final blow for some fans...
That issue said to some long time readers : "hey...we don't care anymore just give us the money."

How very apt that you should make that statement, when indeed both members of the Stacy family serve as an example of evil taking the day. But perhaps that is the better side to that thought. Evil only takes the day. Nothing more. Good still ultimately prevails. But unless it is absolute good (God) then even the villains get their day every now and then.

sure....but the thing is Doc Ock was killed later on even if it was retconned, and even than it was an accident i believe...

and so was the green goblin. he ended up being killed.

they got theirs in the end...even if they ended up coming back.

Except the fact that Captain Stacy was killed by accident prior to Ock's incarceration, and the Green Goblin died by his own hand, (clone saga be damned) and BOTH those men were victims of mental illness, wheras Mephisto is evil personified and is currently laughing his ass of at a defeated Peter and Mary Jane. :yay:

Lol, i just asked JoeQ to address the Mephisto thing for ASM #666 in about three years from now for next week's "Cup 'o Joe" on myspace. I'll let you know if he answers.

That's really my only gripe right now. As you say; the book is lots of fun. I really enjoyed the last issue, and am kicking myself for not figuring out who Carr's secret lady friend was until i saw the very last page.

I know it's a double post :hehe: but...

LOL.

(They brought the mystery chick up waaaay too much for it not to be obvious)

The real question at hand is: why the heck is Mj reading the book faust.

is this just a nod to OMD?
or is there more to it....
as stupid as this sounds...I think there are 2 mj's. one good/ one bad.

good mj is jackpot whom only resembles herself when she's jackpot. demon satan worshiping mj looks like herself but is not herself. now i know that DOES sound like a stupid theory...especially when i usually have much better ones...

there's one thing for sure...if it were grant morrison writing you would DEFINITELY know to take that as a hidden message. I LOVE his writing.

But I love the OMD-BND idea. Its a fresh start. If I had a chance to write Spidey comics, I'd have the character go back into his high school-college days. Still, I think they should make some stories of what could've been, you know if the magic thing never happened.

Well, I think that's what Ultimate Spider-Man is for... but Marvel wants to keep the current Spider-Man (and his history) as intact as possible into the regular Marvel Universe.

But I'm glad you're digging it, and welcome to the Hype.

Evil has only prevailed when and if Spidey dies. Who's to say that Spidey won't eventually win?

The new approach is ok.
In the first time in years they brought on men who definitely have a knack for writing Spidey. Jms is a good writer...but he's no Spidey writer when it comes down to it. :cwink:

As for the new approach...here's the thing. pete's about 26.
and they've regressed him back to the point where he feels like he's fresh out of high school spidey. :(

It's Mephisto bud....
someone out of Spidey's league.

Marriage meant something to spidey. and thats something this character. whom is a non spidey character....and whom just happened to pop up out of no where.

will always hold over his head.
sure the green goblin screwed up gwen. :-)woot: heh)
but Spidey's handed his butt to him before...and the two have had a long grudge.

this kinda of makes all future stories with spidey villians pointless. i mean it was already hard enough trying to top the goblin....

I don't mind the "evil prevails" thing that much, but the thing that will forever bug me about it is the randomness. Technically, couldn't Mephisto just come up to any hero and force them to make a deal like this?
What's to stop it from happening again?

I don't mind "evil prevails" but when evil can pop up randomly and prevail whenever it wants with no real hope of defeating it? That my friends, is lame.
