Superman Returns Essesence of superman

Superman has been potrayed in so many different ways in both print media and visual media, that I don't know how you can say it is right or wrong.

:)

You're one of the enlightened, my friend.

I believe they could have still injected the emotions that Lois was experiencing because of Superman's hiatus with her knowing he was going to leave. I think however he would hold a nationally televised press conference and Lois could find out in that manner. This would have given a chance for Superman to echo the thoughts of his father, that he can only lead by example and what not. Then you face the issue of Superman advertising his departure to the world, allowing for the criminals to move forward without fear. I think it would be just as sad to see Lois watching this press conference and finding out in this manner. It wasn't as bad to me that he didn't tell Lois, but I thought he should have informed the world. That being said it worked out fine in the movie and the reason he had trouble telling Lois and the world was because he was "raised as a human being".

Exactly he was raised as a human, and so suffers from the same human traits as us.

Also, if he announced to the world he was leaving, as you said, the criminals would having a party, i bet for at least the first two years of his absence, they were still expecting him to show up now and again.

With every counter argument theres always an argument, ok fair enough you say that but what about when a fire is started and people are hanging around for him rather than take action they are waiting for big blue to step in.

Well, i'm sorry but whether Superman was on earth or not, i wouldnt wait around in the middle of a fire to be rescued by him, i would try and get myself out of there asap. And if i was trapped, i'd expect the authorities to rescue me if Superman wasnt there as he cant be everywere at once anyway.

i agree with that 100%.

i feel like they tried WAY too hard to come up with a story that they could sell. but by the end of it, the movie that they sold to WB obviously isn't a story that us fans would buy.

i hate to be critical unless i could have done it better, but i can't help but wonder WHOM they were trying to impress/please/blow away with this movie????

with such an epic character, i don't think they should have done the whole illegitimate child sub plot. there is already SO much buried within the superman mythos, why are they making this s*** up?

it's almost like movies about jesus or the bible, who would make a huge blockbuster film about jesus with a story that holds no bearing whatsoever on what we already know/believe/have heard about him?

don't they know that they can't take it back? it's unforgivable, they can't just act like they didn't throw this wrench in the franchise.

^Well i think you missed my point here, as i am a big fan of SR and what Singer did with the characters and story.

well, i sorta went off a little, but i did agree with what i quoted from you...

Oh right, lol, sorry, just got a bit confused there with you agreeing with me and then saying you disliked SR, lol, no worries.

i don't know, i have watch it again. i only watched it twice in theatres. i'm easy to please, because i did like it. but i'm worried that it's going to turn into a soap opera instead of an emotional superhero movie....

well, get it back, get your fix, then lend it to me so i can catch up to you....:yay:

Thats the problem with makin a vague sequel/remake. Whats real and what isnt? who knows/ I think Singer should just save his credibility and respect and either leaving the Superman franchise or by starting again completley ignoring the damage he's done. Oh and reading some of the comics of the last 20 years would help. Im sick of the old Kal-El pretends to be Clark Kent thing. For a change lets see Clark Kent IS who he is, Superman is what he can do. Like it is in Lois & Clark, Superman:TAS and the current comics.

That doesn't change the fact that sooner or later, the crooks would notice he was gone. Supes' should have given the cops and government a heads up.

Singer's Superman isn't Superman - he's a cheap knock off of Spider-Man full of woe-is-me-pity.

well before the movie came out the big thing was...
will a big blue boyscout still appeal to mass audiences
the answer is no
its cardboard, theres no drama
i think singer brought in all the wrong elements that actually took away from superman.
if you look at all the scenes that have nothing to do with the child, lois, or richard. all those scenes scream superman. they practically shuv truth, justice, and the american way into your face. brandon did a damn good job, and i think he has a really good feel for the character. you just have to look away from the bogus parts of story, pay attention to what they nailed. then enjoy it. all in all
routh is a great superman, hes got it all.
They didn't to me. They shoved Singer's thoughts on being lonely because you are an outsider (from his personal experiences as a gay person) which he injects into his films. That isn't Superman

Thanks to SR, even the last bit of logic the old movies had is now gone.

The problem with the story is that Superman is now officially a creepy ******. Why? If he would love her THAT much he would finally f'n tell her that he is also Clark Kent, instead of stalking her at work and now even afterwards, crying for her like a psycho! He should have told her before he left who he really is and what his feelings are! Instead of that, he slept with her and still kept the lie going, smiling at her behind his mask everyday at work, while she thinks she talks to a different person! :o

That's really my biggest problem with the whole pre-crisis stuff. Clark isn't real. He serves Superman as a mask to be around Lois the whole time while she thinks Clark is an idiot and allways raves how great Superman is. If that's not creepy ... :ninja:

The same way it makes no sense in "Smallville" that he doesn't tell "the love of his life" Lana about his powers when nearly everyone else in his close circle (Pete, Chloe, Lionel, heroes he just met for one day like Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman and even half of the inmates of "Bell Reeve") knows about him!
The alibi excuse, that he fears Lana get's hurt worked for the first 2 seasons, but Pete and Chloe worked with him afterwards and now even the father of his freaking enemy does!?

Please, add some logic to the stories! Even kids aren't that dumb! :whatever:
I like pre-crisis Clark better then post crisis Clark as pre he is actually creating a personae to throw people off on who he is. It isn't just for Lois. It is for him to have a life. In post, it is just Superman with glasses on. try putting on Glasses and going into work and see if no one recognizes you? The stuff he does in pre (the nerdy act) is to establish that Supes and Clark are two different people.
