Ethiopian Church priest to unveil the Ark of the Covenant to the public

I have no doubt it looks like this

allsparkcube1.jpg

I feel like Papa Pope and Mr. Nigerian Priest were in the Vatican, chilling out, and the Ark was next to them, under a sheet or something, and then some aid walked in and told them about Michael Jackson's death. Then they decided God couldn't be upstaged by a guy who can moonwalk.

I'd just like to point out that I did, indeed, avoid the obvious pedophilia joke that I could've made.

Give it 2000 or so years and lets see what evidence we can find of ole John. And are you discounting the Koran because it is also religious text? And what of the Roman historical accounts? I'm far from a scholar, but I see to recall Josephus or Pliny one writing of Jesus (and not being a big fan if I recall correctly) And who knows what may have been lost when the library at Alexandria was destroyed. Or perhaps we can talk about how we've fancifully reconstructed (some) animals from a very scant fossil record (for many species).

Firstly I think we'll remember Ol' John in 2000 years considering that we have the constitution sealed away somewhere and under armed guard and lock and key the practice for protecting the bible was write it on a scroll and put in a jar then put the jar into a mountain.

Secondly I discount the unverified claims of any text regardless of whether it's religious or not. I believe that it is possible that a man named Jesus lived 2000 years ago but there is so little actual evidence to support that claim I can't consider it true necessarily.

Next we could talk about scant fossil reconstructions but palentology isn't my forte and frankly I think that a good deal of them through history have been just as full of crap as religious teachers. (no offense to anyone, It's just how I feel)

I'm not trying to slam science and say it's only this one book that's the truth. Yes I know we do have complete fossils of some animals - I;m not denying fossils, and no, I don't want to get into a long drawn out debate citing sources and such on this topic. I simply want to point out that a lot of what we accept as fact contains quite a bit of speculation, especially when it comes to our histories.

And I'm not singling you out MagicWalrus. Your post just seemed the easiest which I could use as a starting point for a response.

Hey it's cool. I like debate.

I understand that there is a certain amount of uncertainty when we accept something but your argument didn't necessarily back up the point.

I know science very well. I am currently studying for a graduate degree in medical sciences. I earned a Bacherlors in Engineering over 10 years ago and have worked with many different technologies and industries in the interim. However, I worded my post poorly and you seemed to have missed my point. I will attempt to clarify my argument in a few scants sentences but, alas, as I said alluded to before, I haven't presently the time to engage in a rigorous and healthy debate on this or any other subject.

Congratulations and good luck.

And now I fade back into the study of synovial joints...... have a great weekend!

Aww... Synovial joints... My favorite.

surely this can't have been real? even if it was shown the church would just say it's the real ark and not let anyone test it or look at it in anyway. in order for it to be accepted as the real ark then it should be studdied by top men...

This site has a good read , from what I understand it was to be revealed friday but is now being postponed

The leader of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church today backed off on a much-anticipated announcement about the Ark of the Covenant -- the ancient container holding the Ten Commandment -- which he claims to have seen.

But no other evidence or, indeed, even any announcement, was made public today when word had been expected.

Ark hunters and Bible enthusiasts have been buzzing for two days on the report from the Italian news agency Adnkronos that Patriarch Abuna Pauolos, in Italy for a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI this week, said, "Soon the world will be able to admire the Ark of the Covenant described in the Bible as the container of the tablets of the law that God delivered to Moses and the center of searches and studies for centuries."

He had suggested the possibility the artifact might be viewable in a planned museum.

"I repeat (the Ark of the Covenant) is in Ethiopia and nobody … knows for how much time. Only God knows," he said in the Adnkronos report available online.

The report said Pauolos reported the artifact "is described perfectly in the Bible" and is in good condition.

Sounds like they're just making it up as they go along.

Don't look at it, marion! Keep your eyes shut!

They say a retraction was issued last week at the link below. Looks like maybe someone at wnd didn't do their homework.....

That sucks. The revelation of the Ark was at least intriguing. I was hoping for a fake looking replica, a stripper popping out of the Ark, or some Bible magic to happen. They could have given us at least something.

I bet someone showed him Raiders of the Lost Ark and didn't want his head to melt/shrink/explode.

I knew it was probably a hoax. But just in case, I wasn't gonna look at it...

But God left the ark when the old covenant ended / was fulfilled through Christ, so that means that now it's just a wooden box covered in gold leaf. Why would Christ take it with him, if he has no need for earthly treasures in heaven?

That's why I said theory and not definite answer for where the original ark went.

I think sometimes people put too much stock in holy relics. They distract us from the real point -- that we should be worshipping God himself, not something our own hands have made at His direction. I have often wondered if that was why God allowed the Ark to vanish. I shudder when I see folks falling over themselves at the sight of the Shroud of Turin when there isn't even any proof Jesus had ever touched it. And so what if he did? It's not the Shroud that saves, but Jesus himself. :(

You just know as soon as they revealed it there'd be hundereds of rabid archeolgists in fedoras shouting 'IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!'

Well it does, lol. Something like this that is so well known amongst so many cultures should be shared. If it is even real, of course. I don't think it is something that should be in someone's private collection.

honestly am i the only one who would love to see an army march on the Vatican to take whats in the achieves, there has to be so much hidden down there

sadly it will all be destroyed before anyone would get to it

This was such an interesting story, too bad it went nowhere.

Everyone has secrets, and personally I care a lot less about what people do behind closed doors than I do about when they come outside.

It's not so much that I want an army there, but I do think it would be nice for them to at least SHARE what they may have, even if it's just some scans or whatnot. Artifacts are to be shared, not hidden away. :(
