Give it 2000 or so years and lets see what evidence we can find of ole John. And are you discounting the Koran because it is also religious text? And what of the Roman historical accounts? I'm far from a scholar, but I see to recall Josephus or Pliny one writing of Jesus (and not being a big fan if I recall correctly) And who knows what may have been lost when the library at Alexandria was destroyed. Or perhaps we can talk about how we've fancifully reconstructed (some) animals from a very scant fossil record (for many species).
I'm not trying to slam science and say it's only this one book that's the truth. Yes I know we do have complete fossils of some animals - I;m not denying fossils, and no, I don't want to get into a long drawn out debate citing sources and such on this topic. I simply want to point out that a lot of what we accept as fact contains quite a bit of speculation, especially when it comes to our histories.
And I'm not singling you out MagicWalrus. Your post just seemed the easiest which I could use as a starting point for a response.
I know science very well. I am currently studying for a graduate degree in medical sciences. I earned a Bacherlors in Engineering over 10 years ago and have worked with many different technologies and industries in the interim. However, I worded my post poorly and you seemed to have missed my point. I will attempt to clarify my argument in a few scants sentences but, alas, as I said alluded to before, I haven't presently the time to engage in a rigorous and healthy debate on this or any other subject.
And now I fade back into the study of synovial joints...... have a great weekend!

The leader of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church today backed off on a much-anticipated announcement about the Ark of the Covenant -- the ancient container holding the Ten Commandment -- which he claims to have seen.
But no other evidence or, indeed, even any announcement, was made public today when word had been expected.
Ark hunters and Bible enthusiasts have been buzzing for two days on the report from the Italian news agency Adnkronos that Patriarch Abuna Pauolos, in Italy for a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI this week, said, "Soon the world will be able to admire the Ark of the Covenant described in the Bible as the container of the tablets of the law that God delivered to Moses and the center of searches and studies for centuries."
He had suggested the possibility the artifact might be viewable in a planned museum.
"I repeat (the Ark of the Covenant) is in Ethiopia and nobody knows for how much time. Only God knows," he said in the Adnkronos report available online.
The report said Pauolos reported the artifact "is described perfectly in the Bible" and is in good condition.

But God left the ark when the old covenant ended / was fulfilled through Christ, so that means that now it's just a wooden box covered in gold leaf. Why would Christ take it with him, if he has no need for earthly treasures in heaven?
Haha, it says:
"YOU JUST LOST THE GAME".
Well it does, lol. Something like this that is so well known amongst so many cultures should be shared. If it is even real, of course. I don't think it is something that should be in someone's private collection. You just know as soon as they revealed it there'd be hundereds of rabid archeolgists in fedoras shouting 'IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!'
honestly am i the only one who would love to see an army march on the Vatican to take whats in the achieves, there has to be so much hidden down there
sadly it will all be destroyed before anyone would get to it
It's not so much that I want an army there, but I do think it would be nice for them to at least SHARE what they may have, even if it's just some scans or whatnot. Artifacts are to be shared, not hidden away.honestly am i the only one who would love to see an army march on the Vatican to take whats in the achieves, there has to be so much hidden down there
