That news is just complete and total bull****.

For shame Sony Pictures. For damn shame.

Damn that's some ****. Sorry ausie fans. This film is going to be pirated like a mother****er now and they really only have themselves to blame.

Just got back from seeing this. Pretty good, although trailers gave more away than I liked.

Some thoughts:

Was it just my theater, or was this movie pitch black? Half of the climax I had to guess what the hell was happening because of how inky dark it was.

I did enjoy the fake Ash buildup that they were going for with David, with the blue shirt, the shotgun, how he almost takes the chainsaw...and then he dies. :hehe: Didn't expect to actually enjoy Eric more than David, either. Sure, the guy unleashed evil, but he caught on to what was happening and was willing to take the necessary steps to fix it. David was just an ass the entire movie; I mean come on man, even if you think Mia's just detoxing and she didn't get tree raped (and BTW, wouldn't the two nurses be able to verify that pretty quick?), you're just going to leave this freaked-out girl by herself in her room?

I wish they had killed Natalie first rather than Olivia, since Nat got absolutely nothing to say or do while Olivia fulfilled an actual function. Although, weren't they both doctors? And David is the one patching up Eric anyway? Nonsense.

Mia was great, though. Jane Levy really got to do everything in this movie, and I hope they make a sequel with her in some capacity.

The only thing I actually disliked was the portrayal of the deadites, they're too inconsistent. Everyone but Mia and Eric were basically shambling zombies without any of the surprisingly quick menace ED1's demons had (and I think Eric only moved so slow because of his many, MANY injuries. :hehe: ) I don't want the forces of darkness cracking one liners or anything like that, just give 'em some more verve next time around. No more of this slowly crawling crap, we've seen that too many times in too many zombie movies.

I did like the shout-outs to the first two movies, they weren't overly obvious about it (most of the time). My personal favorite is Eric's line--[blackout] "She just caught her damn arm off! Does that sound fine?" Cue evil reflection laughter.[/blackout]

And a few questions concerning the ending:

So was that thing supposed to be the same "girl" that was stalking Mia in the beginning, during the tree rape? It's credited as "Abomination Mia" so I assume it's not the girl from the prologue...

And Mia's not really cured, right? Because burying her alive and dismembering (well, ripping her own hand off) didn't stop the evil forces, and the book's still going strong, so does that mean the evil's going to be around as long as she's alive and unburnt? Seems like the death by fire method was the only way to really stop the demons.

Not as violent as I was hoping for, but overall it's worth watching and maintains a nice, grisly and dark sense of humor to it.

It could be your theater projector, I had no problems with the darkness.

Yeah Navigator, it was probably your theater. I had no problems with the film being overly dark. Actually, I found the cinematography in the film to be pretty good.

Yeah, they kept building up the final monster as the ultimate evil, but it was basically just another girl. I was hoping that we would get Rotten Apple Head! Or....something other than just another person making crazy faces. :woot:

The original scripted ending did have a big monster called 'The Abomination'. It was a combination of David, Eric, Olivia and Natalie's remains in one big monster. Everything else was exactly the same like the way Mia fought it and stuff, it was just a much larger and grotesque monster. Supposedly it was cut out in Diablo Cody's revision of the script, for the girl seemed scarier choice.

Just thought I would mention it here because there are a lot of Jane Levy fans around that I was shocked to discover she played the first Mandy Milkovich in Shameless. It may be because I think the show's best season was its first (though Season 3, which just ended, was really good), but she was so much more likable and adorable than her replacement.

It is hard to think that it is the same girl who played Mandy, Mia and the Emma Stone clone ABC is going for.

Just throwing that out there.

If they make a sequel with Mia still stuck in the cabin, they could do that again.

Obviously that was based on the evil manifesting from the woods in that giant monster Ash fought in ED2.

Yeah I mentioned a few pages back that I'm assuming there were a lot of cuts (due to the NC-17 rating) and if you look at some of the tv spots, you see Mia walking/stumbling down a highway in her red dress (that she wore at the end) giving some evidence that there was an alternate ending.

The original scripted ending was a post credits scene where Mia stumbles down a road. A car drives up to her and gives her a ride, while in the car her eyes turn back to the deadite form and the film then ends. However, the director wanted Ash to be in the film so cut out Mia turning back into a deadite, and had the driver picking her up be Ash instead, leading onto a future instalment. The scene was filmed and everything, however in post production the scene was cut out for unknown reasons.

Bruce posted on his twitter denying that this was ever filmed. Scripted, quite possibly, but he claimed it never made it to production.

Damn. Well, that's what blu-ray is for.

Thankfully. The stinger was enough, and the new films need room to grow outside the Raimi version.

To Aussie fans, it's bad that we're being limited to literally half a dozen cinemas for this film in only 5 cities, but I've done some research and the reason may be down to South Australia and not necessarily Sony Pictures. About 3 years ago the state introduced a law banning advertising for R18 movies which wasn't a huge issue because a major mainstream R18 movie hasn't really hit our shores in quite some time (to those outside Australia more often than not the highest a film gets rated down here is MA15 which is the equivalent to an NC17 rating). So this is where Sony Pictures may have run into some problems, they might not be able to promote this film to the entire country because of those damn fools in Adelaide.

It's not your S1 bias - she was exponentially better in the role than the girl who replaced her. I know this stuff is supposed to be subjective, but I think that's a damn near objective fact, lol.

Ash picking Mia up would have been too much for me I think. A sequel to the Evil Dead featuring Mia and Army of Darkness 2 is the smart way to go. I am excited at the prospect of tying them all together. That seems unbelievably cool. Like, Avengers cool.

Indeed. When Jane Levy played it, it was a very small role, but Mandy was so much more likable back then. Of course, compared to Karen she still seems great.

You a fan of the show or just her on it? Yes, she is very adorable even when she is stalking poor Ian all across Chicago in that episode.
I haven't seen much of the recent series. But I was into season 1.

Jane hadn't really captured my eye back then lol

Seen it twice now. Really enjoyed it a lot despite it's paper thin characters. Some quick thoughts on it:
- While Possessed Mia was great. I did miss the gleefully evil portrayal of deadites in the original. The nods to the original were welcome and thankfully not distracting.
- While no health care professional on earth would do a cold turkey drug detox in a cabin with no trained staff for support, it did give a good enough reason to keep them in the cabin till the ***** hit the fan.
- Felt like a lot of character development was cut, specifically involving David's absence from the group and the resentment Eric and Mia have towards him.
- The gore was incredible and is almost the true star of the movie. Thank you Fede for going practical with the effects, as it was well worth it in the end.
- Didn't care for the explanation behind why they were being possessed. Wasn't necessary and made for a few plot holes and obvious plot conveniences.

Probably gets an 8/10 for me. Bring on Evil Dead 2, and I may be a minority but keep it away from the cabin next time.

Yeah that's what I read too on his twitter until I seen a tv spot with Mia stumbling down a highway in her red dress. There's some shinanigans afoot!

Supposedly, the original scripted ending
Mia being picked up by a farmer then turning back into a Deadite
was the only other ending that had been filmed. Any ending involving a bruce campbell cameo supposedly never made it past discussions.
