Evil Dead (2013)

After watching the movie last night and watching the tv spots today, it seems like a lot was cut from the film.

-The brother using the chainsaw (never happens in the movie)
-Mia walking down the highway
she's in her red dress that she wore at the end, limping so it was obviously from the ending

I'm thinking:

The brother uses the chainsaw on the "dead" girlfriend, in the movie she just kind of drops dead all of a sudden (which I thought was odd) after being a deadite and that was it. Perhaps there was a scene where she came back in deadite form, he drags her to the shed and hacks her up with the chainsaw.

And Mia walking down the highway: there was something posted online a few weeks ago about a "deleted scene" at the end where Ash shows up asking for directions, then Mia deadites-out and the camera zooms in on him when he says "groovy." I'm thinking that was the scene.

I saw it today. It was okay. The gore was disgustingly good. I found it to be a better overall horror film than the original, but I didn't like it more than Evil Dead II or Army of Darkness. I didn't care for any of the characters, really. I found myself missing Ash. Even though this is a reboot, an Evil Dead movie without Bruce Campbell is like an Indiana Jones movie without Harrison Ford. I know he produced it, and it did do the original justice, but I just miss this guy:

So during the 1st two thirds of this, I was feeling pretty let-down, as it just felt like a typical horror remake (albeit with top-notch gore). But then the 3rd act happened, and since I was totally unspoiled, a certain [blackout]role-reversal[/blackout] at the end had me totally geeking out despite not even being a huge fan of the original. So yeah, not amazing, but one of the better horror remakes I've seen.

Nice to hear it's doing well. I'd be interested in a sequel.

I just learned that there was a scene after the credits but I left. I watched it on YouTube. Without spoiling anything, I wish I ****ing stayed...

It was alright. Bout a 7/10 for me. Really bummed that most the gore was shown in the R trailer. For how much people hyped the gore I really didn't think it was that bad. [BLACKOUT] The last line by Mia came off as extremely forced but the last chainsaw kill on the abonimation was awesome! Also The scene with Natalie after David shot her arm off was really well done. Pretty messed up depressing image. The abuse Eric was given was a good touch as well haha. [/BLACKOUT]Was hoping for more of that. Wasn't a huge fan of the deadites here.

The soundtrack was friggen awesome. Overall much better then most the other horror flicks out there, but I was let down in some areas. Def my least favorite of the series, but still decent. Hope AOD2 comes sooner then later.

I saw it on YT. At least it confirms...nothing to do with AOD2 :funny:

Its just a **** yeah! for the audience.

I really liked it solid 8/10 from me. There was some cliche stuff in there, but overall it worked really well. I have not cringed like that in a long while. There was some pretty intense scenes.

Another thing I was kinda disappointed in was the lack of haunted house type stuff goen on. In the original and especially ED2 the Cabin itself plays a pretty large role in messing with characters. Wanted to see the Deadites and environment mind **** and drive people to insanity. Insetad it had a check out how screwed up self mutilation thing goen on with some deadite trash talking.

Just got back. I liked it but I need to live in a cave. Yet another film that was overhyped. My buddy along with a lot of the critics went overboard with how bad the violence was. There was some gory **** in this film but I've seen horror films just as bad if not worse. Im also keeping away from red band trailers. According to some of the critics the redband trailer didnt spoil everything. Lol Pretty much showed 90% of all the violence. If I wasnt as big of a horror fan as I am, I would have enjoyed it more.

Agreed. I think besides [BLACKOUT]the nail gun scene and final chainsaw kill[/BLACKOUT], everything was shown in the trailers.

If the Big Cheese from Resident Evil 4 isn't in this movie, I'm not going :o

Bitores is not in it haha. I don't even think they show that image of the book for more then a split second.

My girlfriend and I had a blast at the theatre with this film! One hell of a date.

That's false advertisement. I wanted the Big Cheese with a side order of Jane's hot n spicey breasts :argh: :p

I really enjoyed Evil Dead. I don't think it's as scary or good as the original , but it was still fun. There's all the gore and brutal violence you would want in an Evil Dead film. The effects and make-up look great. Also there's all sorts of references to the original film. The acting was decent, but I didn't feel emotionally invested in the characters. They all did something stupid at one point and the brother's denial almost came off as silly towards the second half of the film. It's still better than most of the recent horror films in the last couple years. The crowd seemed to really enjoy it. I think most of them hadn't seen the original based on the huge gasp/omg during the vine moment.

So it was loads of fun , but it makes me want Evil Dead 4/ Army of Darkness 2 with Bruce Campbell even more.

I'm one of the few Horror fanatics who has no love at all for this franchise. I've watched the original 3 films...didn't really like any of them (though some parts of the second one were kind of cute). I have no problem at all with them remaking the movie.

However, I absolutely HATED the beginning. The dialogue and acting was just so bad. It was pretty much:
"Hi, my lifelong friend who is a nurse that I haven't seen in a long time because I moved away for a job"
"Hello, and please say hello to this teacher, who is also a long-time friend of ours"

Sadly, I'm only barely exaggerating about that exchange...it was painful to watch. I think that after Cabin In The Woods, it is impossible to introduce the Cabin Horror cliche characters without looking awful. Maybe some more thought should be put into it in the future instead of just clumsily throwing the same cliches at us again and expecting us to care.

Once the actual Horror kicked in though, it was gory enough to entertain me, despite much of it already being shown in trailers. While I've seen harsher films, I applaud the fact that a movie intended for wide release was allowed to go as far as it did, when most Horror films that hit theaters do everything they can to not be gory, overly violent etc.

It was... amusing. I might just have a twisted sense of humor though... it had that Raimi childlike playfulness to it (just a lot more gore).

8/10

I loved it, man. Looking forward to owning it alongside the original 3, along with seeing where the next chapters go.

What a min...

So. According to Alvarez. There's going to be an ED2. AOD2....then a seventh film where Ash and Mia join forces as the Chainsaw hand duo?

Groovy

Just like the proposed sequels to the reboots of Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street (which were both box office successes), I'll believe it when I see it.

This isn't made by Platinum Dunes though and has gotten far better reviews.
