Ewan McGregor was seen wearing a mask during shooting.

Did Ewan do any martial arts training for the movie or is black mask not really a fighter? From the trailers it makes it look like he is the big boss who gets his henchpeople to do his work

I hope this is good. Still not feeling it but I’m open.

What's with the dumb thread title, though?

You know, i never understood why nobody did black mask more "flamboyant".
Just think about it, his parents owned a cosmetic company, he dated models and was obsessed with Masks.

The idea makes sense to have the guy be a bit extra because he was part of the High society who hide behind "masks" and so on until he snaps because he secretly despised this all.

Well, to be fair, the Black Mask during Doug Moench and Kelley Jones' 1990s comic book run (which is a MUST if you're a Batman fan) had quite a peculiar personality. Different than Ewan McGregor's in this movie, but still peculiar.

*sigh*.

It's already been confirmed that he wears a comic-accurate mask in the CCXP trailer.

First look at Black Mask ;)

The mask in the trailer is a nice mix of classic, without being too human - therefor a hint of "The Mask" to it as well.

Excited for a coked up Obi-Wan as Black Mask.

If Chris Messina is playing his boyfriend that will make Black Mask the most relatable villain since Magneto. Gosh he’s a babe. Wish he wasn’t playing a serial killer though.

oh right Ewan. I’m glad to see he’s having fun. It’s nice to embrace different villains

McGregor's Obi-Wan series on Disney+ is still very much happening despite rumors that it was cancelled.

Doug Moench's 80's run on Batman in general should get more love. Fanboys always bring up the same Batman writers...Miller, Loeb...

It should. As should the "Legends of the Dark Knight" series, which was home to plenty of classic and pivotal Batman stories.

P.S.: It's 1990s, tough. At least the run I'm talking about.

I still have very low expectations for this film but will go in with full intention on being surprised. Also as a fellow Scot its odd im not giving this love already since Ewan McGregor's plays Black Mask its almost law that I should like it lol but honestly that casting decision always seemed very odd to me. Not saying its bad as who knows who I would have picked if I was in charge just when I heard he had been cast I remember being like "Huh never thought they would have went with someone like him"

I actually don't mind that they changed his sexual orientation in fact I don't even care but as far as him being a villain I'm sure he will be one of the more memorable villains in the DCEU

I think it's cool if he's gay or bi or pan but I really hope the rumor about D-pics isn't true.

Black Mask in this movie is sort of like a petulant, unhinged man-child.

The gay stuff is a little more subtle IMO. I feel like it's there but it's not really overt, and it's never explicitly stated. The Zsasz/Black Mask relationship felt undeniably homoerotic, but maybe it's just me.

The writing doesn't do enough to characterize Sionis other than a hothead ganster. Ewan was good though.

I think there's more to it than him just being a hothead. Maybe it's because I'm black it hit home for me but him whitesplaining African culture to a black person was really well executed imo. It was hilarious but also showed how much of an entitled, know-it-all, trust fund baby he was. Add to that he was so whiney and easily manipulated. He read like one of Trump's kids lol.
